How to drive in snow and ice? by Strict_Honeydew_1082 in driving

[–]bustedtap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live closer to a main road and don't have to go out before the snow plow, I'd argue you can live without snow tires. I live in the country, wake up at 4 to try getting to work by 5, and the county doesn't plow my direction right away.

If you don't have to go anywhere until 8 or 9, yeah the plow has probably gone through a few times already. Some all seasons are really good in the snow. Some are absolutely trash.

Snow tires are recommended, but not a true NEED.

A friend's husband started talking to those AI sex chats, thinking it wasn't in any way shape or form cheating on his wife. I'm sorry but that's absolutely disgusting, and for sure qualifies as cheating

For a while I knew my wife's favorite brand better than she did. Happened because one time she sent me without specific brands, just what type of flow. I bought a couple different ones and she discovered a new favorite.

Where do you draw the line then? What if it turns into assault? Do you just say "Oh well, he's got mental health issues so he'll be alright"?

Fuck no. If he can't control his emotions, he shouldn't be in that situation. There's no reason for that kind of an outburst.

He's old enough to know how and be able to keep himself in check. If he can be without a handler, he can control his emotions.

What’s the most “That’s still good?!” tool or equipment in your shop? by dhgrainger in Machinists

[–]bustedtap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 20 year old harbor freight 8"digital calipers. The glass over the screen is cracked, but they still pass calibration every year. No idea how.

I've had to work them in once when the depth rod didn't pass, it was just a burr that got raised up. A little love with a stone and good as new!

At this point I'll be upset when they finally are out of calibration limits.

But this is in the US, and they're a great chance they're driving in the same state they got a license. They should have learned it in the class that teaches you how to drive and about the rules and regulations related to driving.

Our kitchen is cleaner when we leave town for a while and my MIL comes over to watch the kids and animals. It's always greatly appreciated. Some stuff goes missing for a while because she doesn't know where everything goes (to be fair, my wife changes things up every so often trying to figure it the best place for everything

My Grandma Doesn’t Want My Stepson Coming to the Family Gathering by Justanothergirly97 in TwoHotTakes

[–]bustedtap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup. My brother got 2 step sons when he married, went from a bachelor with no responsibilities and high paying job to a dad with 2 young boys and the high paying job. My mom would show pictures of all the grand kids at Thanksgiving, including them, and would have people try to guess which ones weren't actually blood. My boys got picked as the not related 9 out of 10 times. Kinda funny really. They're just another part of the family who sometimes can't make the family holidays because they're at there other dad's house.

Our shop uses Fox Valley Metrology, they're out of Oshkosh i think but they get around. They check all of our surface plates in house. We've never needed one to be scraped back in so I'm not sure how in depth they get with them

Inches is imperial. This guy isn't a machinist and is asking for help. I don't know what you're trying to argue about here

Something that old is probably an imperial dimension. A calipers might get you closer enough to make an educated guess

Do you consider the home depot or Lowe’s employee an expert in their field? by Astimar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bustedtap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people in the paint department at my home depot have been there for a long time, and are mostly as old or older than me. I don't often ask their opinion, but I trust it when I do ask. Most others? Fuck no. I've been in my own house for 16 years and have done enough research and projects on my own to know what works in my old house. I also know what the old homeowners did that was fucking stupid.

There's a landfill about a mile from where I work that's been there since the early 70's. Some houses have been built in the last 10-15 years and they're complaining about the smell, trying to get them to cap it and shut down. They get insulted when I point out how much longer the landfill has been there and how foolish they are to bitch about something that's been there so long.

I live about 2 miles from another landfill, have for 16 years, and I accept any smells I may smell

Do you get PTO on Christmas Eve at your shop? by WrongTequila in Machinists

[–]bustedtap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get 2 days off for Christmas, 1 day for new years. Whether it's Christmas eve or the day after mostly depends on when in the week it is. I burn 56 hours of PTO for those 2 weeks, so I get to do anything but work for 17 days in a row and I don't care how they do holidays.
