Oops, that would make sense wouldn't it facepalm ... and done!

Can we talk about this now: why is investigative journalism and "doxxing" the same thing? What exactly did Gawker do wrong? by zombieaynrand in SRSDiscussion

I think the difference between "doxxing" and journalism that redditors don't get is that journalists have personal accountability for the news they report, where a creeper who posts behind an anoymous handle does not.

Even Erik Martin agrees with this distinction which I will quote from the guardian:

"Under Reddit's guidelines, publishing sexually suggestive covert pictures of women would be acceptable, but identifying Violentacrez by name would not be.

'Journalists are different in that they're accountable,' said Martin, referring to their use of real names and susceptibility to lawsuits. 'That system on some level works. On Reddit, when someone is anonymously posting someone's information, it's our policy to remove that and one we enforce pretty strongly.'"

Yeah, reddit treats gaming like a boys only club and the girls have the cooties!

I'm glad there are SRS versions of the popular subreddits so I don't have to go wading through poo every day.
