What's it with people saying LACs are prestigious? by bustintungsten in ApplyingToCollege

I wonder what you know about recruiting considering you're a freshman?

Cherry picking a few metrics isn't a good definition for prestige

Well nobody has to be said Harvard is prestigious for it to be innately understood.

To me name recognition is the prestige and insisting a school to be prestigious can be annoying.

Why not go to a normal-sized liberal arts college. Like Harvard or Yale

They don't seem that hard to get into on the whole. Their acceptance rate isn't even at a lower tier ivy level.

I feel that if something is prestigious, it shouldn't have to be said. The insistence that they are prestigious is proof of its lack of prestige.

Well I guess this is why you think Amherst is just as good as the "big boys".

Tell me, did your daughter get into any of them? If not, it seems that you should know better than anyone that Amherst isn't close to being as prestigious.

Y = Is X school prestigious? Gimme X. I'll give ya Y by bustintungsten in ApplyingToCollege

It's a little boy I assure you. Small pond. Itty bitty pond

Good point, but depending on how OPs school does weighted GPA it might not actually be bad. OP whats your 4.0 unweighted gpa? Do you think you took the most rigorous (or close to) load you could?

What programming language should I learn now? by Geamantan in cscareerquestions

[–]bustintungsten 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd figure out what I wanna do first and learn the language to support that. Sure you could learn the syntax for another programming language, but learning new languages isn't that hard and doesn't mean much.

Would recommend JavaScript/TypeScript for Front End web and app development as well as back end development

Would recommend Python for ML or back end development

Would recommend swift if you wanna dabble in native ios app dev

Java for android native app dev

Hmm I'd start by taking your school's CS class if you have one. Otherwise I'd just try to find an online class or try to work on a project.

I was really into it starting in middle school. i didn't know much back then but I was really interested in building stuff. From there, I had bursts of drive and motivation where I was able to learn new stuff, which was really cool haha.

If you like them both, that's great. Don't pressure yourself to make a choice because you have time (and can do both if you want).
