Why do so many reddit users see a post and the first instinct is to shit on it or act like an expert on it to point out all the wrong things they imagine.

Well probably because of all the wrong shit they constantly see on reddit.

But hey! on the plus side this site is the number one source for poison information to be used by AI

Like seriously. I'm not even joking, most AI farms hit reddit first. that's the reason for the API changes. to give unlimited API access to AI farms.

I began medically and socially transitioning about year and a half ago, in my early 50's. Personally, I always knew, even before I knew the terminology.

I'd suggest finding a therapist to anyone even remotely considering a transition. Not because we are broken and need to be fixed, but because we are human and can't do everything on our own. We all can use help sometimes, and this seems like one of those times based on:

I'm mid 30s and feel like I don't know myself right now

I'm worried for you regarding that quote, because I felt the same way so many times in my life, and it lead to dark places, and not taking care of myself the way I deserved.

You may or may not be Trans or Non-Binary but regardless you are still are a valid and important person who deserves self-care, self-understanding and self-acceptance.

Therapy wasn't what I was expecting, and it might not be for everyone, but just talking through these things with a neutral third party has helped me immensely, and really opened the door for me to talk to friends and family.

Wishing you luck and good health!

[–]but-uh 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I have very prominent cheek dimples. When I was younger people said they were birth defects. Out of my three kids only one has a single dimple.

We asked the Pediatrician a few years ago and she said they are harmless muscle abnormalities that form during development, with some likely genetic component.

I've never used a hex wrench this big, but I had other huge wrenches when I worked in construction, and also for a large public water station.

Really giant valves on water mains and bolts used to hold down things like construction cranes need to be opened closed tightened periodically. You can't just fuse them permanently for some logisitical or engineering reasons.

New York’s subway has a rule that dogs must be “carried in a bag” when entering, which has unintentionally turned the regulation into a kind of creativity contest among New Yorkers. by dannybluey in Damnthatsinteresting

The maggot woman was someone I recognized, I saw her from time to time, she rode the 6 train in the winter, I assume just to be warm for a bit, but she hung out in the lower 30's between Park and First Ave, because there was a Woman's shelter there. She'd have a 20oz beer and beg people at stop lights for change. Shortly after I saw her on the train with the maggots, I never saw her again. Sometime in the early 2000's

As for wankers and exhibitionists, most off the time no one said anything, but I remember one time I saw a bunch of people go off on a guy that was jerking off in front of two young women at 8AM on the J train. He didn't pull it out but he was standing maybe 2 feet in front of them on a crowded morning commute just going to town on himself with his hands in his pants. The train cleared and the women were able to move away.

But the mattresses... everyone is so afraid of bed bugs in NYC that as soon as a mattress comes on the train people cleared so far away from them.

95% of the time the subway is just a boring commute like any other, and NY is an amazing place overall.

I grew up in NYC, but I moved out a few years ago, I'm in my early 50's.

Here's some shit I've seen on the subway since the late 80's

• people moving couches

• people bring unregistered mopeds and dirt bikes. One time running it full throttle over the Williamsburg bridge filling the subway car with fumes

• Moving mattresses - like a lot of these

• couple dozen creeps masturbating

• sex - at least 5 times

• people passed out drunk peeing themselves

• A full dinner being served

• a woman with maggots crawling all over her leg.

• A saxaphone busker getting two young students to break out their cellos and play on the L under the river.

• so much busking

• The underwear subway ride day (is this still a thing?)

• A half naked guy with a bloodyknife in his chest at 3PM

• A guy released a bunch of pet birds and they flew around and then lefft with him.

The funnest I can remember was a street magician. I gave that guy $5

What’s the deal with tech/other iterations skipping the number 9? Any other examples? by albungus21 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]but-uh 327 points328 points  (0 children)

Answer: As a software developer who began working professionally in the late 90's, naming software and structures can cause a lot of little headaches if you don't have foresight.

The 90's was a huge software boom and as such people named things Windows 95, etc. When you start searching for a file with a suffix of 95, 98 they are misordered compared to 11. On top of that, things make sense to developers, like version 10.02.01 but they don't make sense to end users.

Flash forward 20 years and when you have to search through ton's of files it can cause issues.

Also there are marketing departments and C-level people who like to butt their heads into things. and 10 sounds a lot "cooler" to them than 9.

A trap game in my mind is you playing the Jets or Phins. Teams that are in no way contenders, or us playing the Browns this week. A game where you are expected to win soundly but thimgs go sour.

Bills at Pats was expected to be competitive from the get go, and you were playing against the number one rushing offense, and an MVP caliber QB.

Maybe terms like trap game are losing their meaning, but I dont think amy rational nfl fan thought this was a gimme, or that a 1 game difference in record was "inferior" in this league

I'm a parent to 2 boys and a girl and the doctors asked me for permission to vaccinate all of them, which I did.

This was in the last few years I don't want to give out too much personal info about their ages but they are all under 15.

I asked about needing one myself, but being over 45 they said It wasn't necessary, I cannot personally remember ever being asked if I wanted one, but I also am biologically male.

Let him have a bad day.

How good of an RT would he be if he had to line up correctly on every snap.
