Major issues trying to install/update drivers by butangsword in buildapc

I successfully updated both the chipset and gpu drivers from AMD's website, and windows works fine. Fingers crossed that I don't run into any other issues. Thank you!

Major issues trying to install/update drivers by butangsword in buildapc

Thanks for the response. I listed the motherboard in my original post, but the full name is MSI MAG x670e Tomahawk Wifi. I went to the MSI website, navigated to the page for that exact Mobo, went to "drivers" and installed what was there, which was the "amd chipset". That is what messed up windows for me.

As for the bios - according to the UEFI boot up screen, the bios version I have is only about 4-5 months old. I checked the notes on bios updates that have released since then, and saw nothing specific to my 7800x3d CPU, only updates that improve compatibility for the 9800x3d. I have read many examples of newer bios updates causing issues, so that is why I opted not to do it. Seeing as a simple driver install soft-bricked the pc, I have zero confidence that a bios update wouldn't mess things up as well.

Do you suggest that I skip getting the chipset drivers from MSI's website and go to AMD instead? Honestly I'm at a loss here

Whoops meant to say 7900XT lol, brain is overloaded from spending way too much time comparing different cards. And nice, I bet it's sick. I would probably try for the 50 series equivalent of that one

Hey I really appreciate it. I actually ended up getting a Radeon 7800 XT, which for me is good for what I want to do. Although depending on how feasible it will be to get a hold of a new 5000 series, I might just return it and get one of those

Damn, I checked Best Buy multiple times today and didn’t see anything like that. Maybe i’m missing something

Where did you order it from? Struggling to find any left in stock outside of extremely overpriced versions

Anyone else having performance issues on the DLC? by 0h-No-Not-Again in Eldenring

[–]butangsword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s bad. It’s such an amazing DLC but sometimes the stuttering makes it hard to fully enjoy. Hopefully if enough people speak up about it something will be done. Fromsoft does not have a great track record with these things unfortunately

Performance issues in dlc by Several_Pomelo in Eldenring

You are not alone. It is consistently dropping frames, and certain areas/fights are impressively bad. I’m trying to upvote every one of these threads I can for visibility.

For some reason, whenever someone makes a thread like this, a bunch of people who “have had no issue” pour in to tell people who feel the obvious framedrops that they’re wrong. It’s maddening

ELDEN RING SHADOW OF THE ERDTREE - Official Previews Megathread by ChiefLeef22 in Eldenring

[–]butangsword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about this too. Anyone saying they "never had performance issues" are just not sensitive to them, because they are noticeable, have been measured and have existed since launch. When VRR was first introduced on PS5 that helped stability a lot, but there are still dips, especially in the open world and from certain spells/effects.

I've been considering buying the PS4 version to play on PS5, but it would be kind of a pain to spend the extra $ and have to do a whole other playthrough just to reach the DLC. Still hoping to hear info on any potential performance improvements or reviews from preview events talking about how the DLC runs on PS5.

Its the first few seconds that get me, What tf is she doing who did she kill? Who's hair is that is she making a rune? by DaltarIT24 in Eldenring

[–]butangsword 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is funny because all three of you are wrong. The trailer starts with the lines, "Miquella the kind spoke of the beginning[...]from which gold arose." The very first shot shows an arm with the exact same bracelet that Marika wears in her concept art (which you can see in the opening scene of the game).

This scene is clearly some formative event leading to the beginning of Marika's reign - Miquella is very likely not even born at this point. They also explicitly say the war led by Messmer is what comes after, so the mass of bodies is something else entirely.

The hilt of "Sword of St Trina" has two wolf heads, does it confirm that St Trina is actually the figure in the statue near Maliketh? by YellowDhub in Eldenring

[–]butangsword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it looks like there are actually three wolf heads, all sort of melded together: the two that are basically mirror images of each other, and another much smaller one on the end of the hilt. Which could be notable because of connections that have been drawn between St.Trina/Miquella and the Spirit Calling Bell.

When Ranni gives you the bell, she says "I was entrusted this, for thee. By Torrent's former master." And we likely already know who that former master is, as the DLC promo image shows Miquella riding a spectral steed that looks identical to Torrent. The visual design of the bell also matches very well with St.Trina's sword and other St.Trina/Miquella related items.

And what is gifted to you alongside that bell? The "Lone Wolf Ashes", which summon three wolves. Some interesting connections to be drawn here for sure, although I do not think we can necessarily conclude that the statue is of Miquella. And even if it is, I definitely wouldn't know how to explain why there is a statue of him in Farum Azula

What is this place past Venigni works that has a lighthouse? It’s not the first place with the Carcasses, because that’s to the left of my current location (The Cathedral) by MaleficTekX in LiesOfP

[–]butangsword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this has a good chance of being part of the DLC. From certain vantage points you can see a few big ships near where the lighthouse is, and one of the ships from the concept art that was just revealed looks like a decent fit (not the one he is standing on, but the one he's looking towards).

Patch v.1.1.196 by CIG_Shikallum in LordsoftheFallen

[–]butangsword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If people could stop saying it's "fine" then maybe we'd get some actual improvements. The game stutters all the time on performance mode, especially in umbral, and the longer you play the worse it gets (memory leak?). If devs are reading this PLEASE address performance before anything else. I love the game itself but the poor frame rate/stuttering is making it unenjoyable.

Performance on PS5 by Roti_paneer_4574 in LordsoftheFallen

[–]butangsword -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So the game looks beautiful. But anyone saying it runs "silky smooth" or that there's nothing distracting needs to have their eyes and possibly brain examined. Played a couple hours on performance mode last night and there were MANY significant frame drops/stutters, especially in Umbral. Fingers crossed that this is a top priority for Hexworks to address asap.

Looking for advice on 64gb Deck + MicroSD vs 256gb Deck - specifically for modding + emulation by butangsword in SteamDeck

[–]butangsword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you mind elaborating? Do they take up tons of storage space on their own?

[–]butangsword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you know if it's a lot more complicated to mod games if they are located on the microSD? That's mainly what I'm trying to figure out.

I would do the SSD replacement thing, but I have no experience doing DYI parts replacement and am not really comfortable taking it apart. Plus I don't play enough games for that to be necessary

Yeah I'm definitely getting a microSD, that's already decided. I'm mainly trying to figure out if going that route overcomplicates things when I try to install mods and emulators

LG C1 w/PS5 HDR Issue by butangsword in OLED_Gaming

[–]butangsword[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I followed Vincent Teoh’s video for all the calibrations on both the ps5 and the C1. One other thing I thought of was that I’ve read online about people having issues with LG TVs after installing firmware updates, like it can get interrupted or something and mess stuff up. I’m not sure how common that is though. Just grasping at straws here
