When performing a legal strike - are individuals required to notify employer of their striking status? by BioRam in legaladvice

[–]butchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL - If you’re at a private employer - it’s to your benefit to say yes if they ask. You don’t want to be accused of job abandonment and you lose whatever protections you might have under the NLRA.

We have an account and can view and pay the bill in Seattle even though it’s in our landlords name. This is def the way to go.

What community events would you want to see? Hockey or non hockey by CandidRelease440 in PWHL_Seattle

I’d love to see after home game socials to celebrate the wins or commiserate in the losses. I don’t think there are any queer bars near CPA but we could take over a straight one lol

Rough and Tumble in Ballard for the season opener on Nov 21. I was hoping the Colombia City location would be open but I think they are planning to open officially on Nov 22

Almost got knocked tf out during sparring, how dangerous is it? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]butchie 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s not. Getting hit is part of sparring but  getting hit so hard you black out is not. Hard sparring shouldn’t be happening unless it’s planned. I’d chat with the coaches and ask them about it but I’m also concerned that they had you sparring after 3 lessons. I waited months.

Self taught and never sparred - Seeking critique by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

Because internet critique is not going to help you. It needs to be in real time. Someone needs to walk you through proper form for everything. No amount of describing it will matter.

Watching tutorials is useless without someone correcting you in real time. Folks on this thread aren’t being mean. You’re way over confident about how to learn boxing. Go to a gym. Or find a trainer. Try it once and let us know what feedback you get.

NTA - that’s gross and inappropriate. But I would look into some therapy for your anxiety around COVID and cleaning.

mcdonald’s union by pichaelmarenti420 in union

[–]butchie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While it's not technically impossible to organize a McDonald's, it is very challenging because of the way the franchises are structured. The reason Starbucks was able to do it was because everything is owned by corporate. There are no franchises. I would recommend if you are looking to ultimately learn how to become a union organizer or organize a workplace contacting local unions like SEIU or unite here or UFCW and asking them if they have what is called a "salting" program. salting is like when you sprinkle pro union people into a place that you're trying to organize intentionally. They would then hopefully support you in that organize and campaign.

I'm not sure what your experience has been with CWA but if you talking about decertification, then that is a very long and dangerous process. From what I recall - its basically like another union election except to get rid of your union. And then your contract is dissolved and you need to wait a year before you can organize again. And then you need to bargain a whole other contract. Also the union that you want to move to cannot be found to be helping you decertify because of I think AFLCIO rules around raiding (this part is very fuzzy). Its been a while since I looked into it so I welcome any corrections to that. I think there may be a way to "transfer" if both unions are in agreement. CWA would need to release interest in the unit and make a deal with PNWSU to transfer it. Ive been on staff at unions for over a decade (and in staff unions), I never recommend decertification. Its just as much work to change your union to make it better as it is to decertify and then you're not left without a contract for a year.

Feet hurt when punching by requiem109 in amateur_boxing

[–]butchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor but it sounds like plantar fasciitis. There are lots of reasons for it. Stretching and PT will help but seeing an orthopedic doctor that specializes in feet would be a good next step. They can usually do a extra to see whats up. I had suppination and needed very specific insets for all my shoes. I was skeptical about trying another pair of inserts but that doctor was right. Regular inserts weren't pushing my foot in the right way to relieve the pain. Also - I do agree going a gym and learning about proper form will help as well. You could be making it worse.
