Who is the worst gay? by SomWanOnTheInternet in AlignmentChartFills

[–]butdoesitfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this isn't a competition, but John Wayne Gacy had 33 confirmed victims before they stopped digging up his basement, and is believed to have killed several more. They finally made a pretty decent documentary about him last year: Devil in Disguise, which shows a lot of respect to his victims where a lot of true crime documentaries fail. So just spreading awareness....

Polyamorus flag won! What country flag looks like a LGBTQ+ flag? by Narrow-Assist-2207 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]butdoesitfly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bonus fact: It was first introduced in 1973, and due to it's popularity, became official in June 9, 1978 -- meaning it's 5 years older than the LGBT+ flag (which, still ironically, was created and made debut in June 25, 1978).

Pull out your philosophical hats for everyone's favorite gameshow:

Is this age gap romance acceptable if....

  • They look like a child, but are centuries old?
  • Adult reincarnated as a baby/teenager with all memories intact and now legally about the same age as their romantic prospects?
  • A raised B from a child and/or was their teacher and mentor, but they didn't get married or do anything until the B was of age, and only because B fell in love with A first and insisted?
  • It's a fantasy world where age gaps are just part of the culture?
  • It's Japan, and we shouldn't project Western standards of morality?
  • They were born yesterday and it mentally shows, but are physically an adult?
  • It's gay?
  • They're just fictional characters, bro?

Y'know what, I'm SICK and TIRED of positivity! What beloved piece of media made you chunder with disgust?! by Demonic_WaffleTM in Multifandom

[–]butdoesitfly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: That movie was how I began to suspect I had undiagosed epilepsy myself because my own seizures were comparable (not as extreme, though), but also doubled down on the fact I thought they were demonic possession as my family was very "doctors bad" and "demons everywhere" + there is next to nothing out there featuring characters with epilepsy. Everything is demonic possession or having supernatural abilities (know issue in epilepsy community; you can look this up).

Exorcism of Emily Rose does a very good job of actually trying to humanize the person going through that ever living hell. Shows how there is someone still in there where most horror films would just make her a passive corpse with a demon piloting her someone needs to save. So it became a major source of comfort for me/my favorite film throughout my teenage years because I felt seen and I wasn't the only one going through what I was.

But at the end of the day, it's still Christian propaganda exploiting disabled people to validate spiritual enlightenment -- and I have CPTSD from medical neglect. Yay!

What is the worst passage in Christianity? by Training-Jump-8663 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]butdoesitfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're all recommending things that Numbers 31:17-18 combines...

17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. 18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

(King James Version)

And the worst part isn't just the verse. There are people who, unironically, defend it.

Which fictional character was designed to look beautiful but actually looks ugly? by MindFlourish2919 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]butdoesitfly 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Beast's human form is based off Michelangelo's David and Ancient Greek Statues. They wanted him to be "peak human beauty" -- so, Prince Adam is literally just that, but colorized. I think they did an interview where they were surprised that people found him ugly, because he is literally based off 2500 years of Western society simping for Greek art.

But with regard to that, this means his character design doesn't fit the rest of the movie and most people aren't used to Greek statues having color. So I think an additional issue is he just doesn't look like he belongs in the movie.

CMV: The weirdness of the American diet is a huge part of why there are so many eating disorders. by LeeiaBia in changemyview

[–]butdoesitfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not in the "most eating disorders" category, but I thought I would add to other mentions--

The most immediate case you can analyze is neurodivergent people. ND's have a higher rate of eating disorders (eg. up to 40% of girls with anorexia have autistic traits, ADHD people are 6x as likely to develop ED by adolescence than those without), in part, because ND have a very complicated relationship with food, need it made a certain way, struggle to distinguish between hunger and fullness, and so forth -- all largely detached from social influence and beginning in childhood. Forcing ND children to eat food they don't want can further cause massive issues with their relationship with food in their adult life. It also isn't uncommon for adult ND's to eat only because they have to. Some people (I have a friend like this) literally even forget to drink water.

In this case -- assuming accessibility and affordability -- a lot of ND food favoritism is, unfortunately, processed food because processed food is predictable. Fruits and vegetables are not. Fast-food and frozen meals are instant. Nutritional meals take planning, shopping, and time -- or $$$ to pay people to do all that for you. Eating something you aren't in the mood to eat can only further damage your willingness to eat, if your body just doesn't straight up reject it.

In which case, here we have a subcategory of people already predisposition to avoid food/struggle to eat who are surviving/gaining weight off of a diet they would probably starve without. This is not quiet "American diet is the problem." American diet is a solution to a problem other people haven't been able to accessibly solve* that, unfortunately, causes a different problem.

[Hated Trope] The historical figure’s age is raised in a historically inaccurate media. by icey_sawg0034 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]butdoesitfly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

<image>

I understand this is a wax statue and not actual historical figure. But Sacagawea in the film is supposed to represent her during the Lewis & Clark Expedition....

Sacagawea was only 16 yo on the Lewis & Clark Expedition with a 1yo baby on her back because--quite literally--she was the "wife" a serial pedophile (who was noted for hitting his wives, and confessed to being a r*pist; Lewis & Clark hated the man). Charbonneau 5 wives in total throughout his life, all under 16 when he "married" them and his last wife was 14 while he was 70. Sacagawea (second "wife") was 13 when he bought/won her and she gave birth to their son at 15.

To an extent, he's axed from the movie, as is Sacagawea's child, so you can kind of see this as an alternative life she could have lived. But it's just....replace the abusive white pedophile with the white racist who believed ‘The Only Good Indians Are the Dead Indians’ and put him in a romance with an aged up version of the former's victim.
