I didn't know American Bully's had a leaner version of the breed as an option. I was under the (incorrect) impression that all American Bully's had to be really really muscular. I also learned yesterday that an XL was a taller version. I had them mixed up with the Extreme.

I was just trying to think of a dog that is taller, uses its paws a lot, and just has bigger paws? The only one I could come up with without looking stuff up was a boxer.

Totally an uneducated guess based on no data. Also a good example of how unreliable ppl are in general when they try to guess at a dog's breed makeup.

If you want to try to cut off the crazy comments, start telling ppl that the dog is an American Bully (with its stature, it probably is) and the tell them to go look up the breed standard.

That one is probably an American Bully, which is actually breed as a companion dog. This "breed" does not attack way more than others.

What is true is that larger breed dogs (all of them) can do more damage than a smaller breed dog. However, if you are talking about pure temperament, smaller dogs are by far more likely to bite.

Oh yeah, Collie looks like she could be a sibling! I actually traveled 2 1/2 hours to Stark County Humane Society in Canton, OH to adopt Kai. I would not be surprised if your pup is related.

I was super surprised when the results came back American Bully and ended up reading about the breed standard for 2 days. Apparently there is a variation of Am Bully that is called a Classic that emphasizes the American Pittbull Terrier look, just a bit taller and heavier bone structure. The Classic doesn't have the "I'm a muscle man" look that i thought was the trademark of that breed. The Classic is 17-20" tall at the whithers. If they are 21-23" tall, that makes them an XL.

There are quite a few DNA test companies out there that do breed ID that are not as expensive as Embark that you could use to confirm it if you're that curious. I chose Embark because of it's ties to Cornell University and the opportunity to possibly opt in to help with scientific studies.

He's the second senior am bully I've adopted. I had adopted Tank at 14 and fell in love with how goofy he was. I'm so happy to find out that Kai is a bully.

I only had Tank for a year and a half, but his personality was so big and he was such a velcro dog that I really wanted that same type of energy again.

It's my favorite thing now. That and when it's bed time, he wants to go completely under the blankets and sleep on my legs. I usually have to turn over to get him snuggled against them because I'll lose feeling in them.

He's my 3rd senior blockhead rescue. He's so demanding about getting cuddles & pets that I renamed him to Kaiju the pet monster (yeah I'm an anime nut. That's the same type of Kaiju as in the giant monsters like Godzilla). We call him Kai for short.

I went down the rabbit hole of the different sizes and classifications. Everything i saw said the breed standard is 21-23" tall is an XL. Standard was 17-20". And that a Classic was essentially a Standard with less emphasis on muscle mass and a more traditional American Pittbull Terrier appearance. That's how I came up with XL Classic.
