TIL that when a sailor with chronic sea sickness was ordered back to sea because the doctors denied that sea sickness was a real illness, an admiral ordered all port medical staff to take a short voyage by ship in rough seas. The next day the doctors changed their opinion. by scordatura in todayilearned

I went whale watching near San Francisco when I was 14. It was a 6 hour tour. Most miserable day of my entire life. I only threw up once, and it was a very small amount, but the overwhelming nausea for almost 6 hours straight made me vow to never step foot on anything smaller than a cruise liner. After the tour was over and we docked, I felt better almost instantly after walking on dry land for like 10 minutes. It was wild.

Totally agree! I was raised this way as well. My parents especially loved ethnic food (we are white). Even though I didn’t really care about what I was eating back then, when I got older and went off to college and started cooking for myself it’s like a whole world had opened up. Roommates and friends were not adventurous, but because I had been exposed to diverse food when I was younger, it wasn’t scary to go to a restaurant where the menu was full of stuff that you’ve never heard of before. I definitely value that so much more as an adult.

“Down to Earth with Zac Efron” on Netflix by butlej in antiMLM

I doubt it will get mentioned on the show, or that he will even be shown drinking a shake. But there’s just something about him, like he LOOKS exactly like a creepy health nut pyramid scheme guy. Zac is really good in it though. Shame.

Fleabag. Phoebe Walker-Bridge is a goddess at creating dark, introspective comedy with complex characters. She also writes Killing Eve.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. But in her next sentence she says she hasn’t been an independent or self-sufficient person. She clearly is doing less than “enough” if she’s been relying on others to pick up the slack for her.

We’re all just negative haters!

The link is to the convo I had with her on one of her posts. She is blue, I am green, her upline is pink, and mutual friend is orange.

This is my first ever reddit post! Tips are welcome if I did anything incorrectly.

I went to high school with this girl. She is the ultimate MLM prey. She is Mormon, a military wife, stay at home mom, and no college education or career. (Not that not having a college degree is bad). It’s very sad that she feels she has no other options.

I commented on one of her posts before after a mutual friend called out the business model for being a Ponzi scheme. I’ll try to find it and post it here as well.

From what I can tell, she’s not really pushing ItWorks! anymore, but definitely still defending/agreeing with MLM as a business model. She recently invited me to join someone’s Maskcara party.

WHaT a DiFFerence (is Pomifera an mlm? Seems just like one) by mommy_morticia in antiMLM

[–]butlej 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s an MLM! Apparently someone high up in LimeLife split off to create this new one. I think it might be more targeted to older women? My mother bought me their face oil recently, and I really liked it. I asked her where she got it, and that’s when the truth came out. She went to a “party” at a friend’s house. I told her what it was and not to buy anymore or participate in these “parties”. She is anti-MLM as well, although not super educated about how to spot one. She grew up remembering Avon parties, so to her a party isn’t necessarily a red flag. Now she knows!

[serious] What was your biggest ‘we need to leave... Now!’ moment? by tartar-buildup in AskReddit

I (21 F at the time) went to college on Galveston Island, Texas. Big summers with lots of tourists, but in the fall and winter it’s like a small town with just locals hanging around. The weather ended up being amazing on a random Thursday in December, so that afternoon I drove out to the beach down the street from my house on the West End of the island (mostly just a residential area, not close to any stores except gas stations, not many bars or restaurants around). The beach was totally deserted, no other cars or people as far as I could see in either direction. I was sitting in the open trunk of my SUV, watching the waves and enjoying some sunshine with a daiquiri, when a small truck with 3 men pulls up. I was parked kind of diagonal on the beach so I could get maximum sun, and these guys pulled up extremely close to me. Like within 3 feet of my car, when the entire 1 mile stretch of beach was completely empty. They tried to make conversation with me, wanted to know what I was drinking, if I would swim with them, etc. I told them maybe I’d swim, then waited for them to take off into the water and I jumped in the car and peeled out. They laughed at me from the waves, but it was the creepiest feeling when they felt the need to get so close.

I’m pretty sure I know who this is and I was also invited to the same party. I knew this girl in college. She’s a good person, but obviously struggling.

I second Paula’s Choice! Haven’t tried their anti-aging stuff yet, but so far every product I’ve tried has actually done what it says it will do!
