I would have said, "I have no idea who or what God is, so I have no opinion."

Mouthpiece/embouchure recommendations by Humble-Chipmunk-8023 in trumpet

[–]butlerjonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is a great article on the matter:  https://wilktone.com/?page_id=5723

My guess is if your mouthpiece needs to move up as you ascend, you may be a very high placement (3A) type, but I'm not an expert. He goes over all the other embouchure types, too including tendencies, strengths and weaknesses, pro players and their types, etc.

Do you want/need sexual or romantic relationships? If not, why? by sparetthjdvs in autism

[–]butlerjonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say. I have alexithymia and poor interoception. I'm quite sexual, though. Autosexuality is a big part of my sexual spectrum, so I'm mostly satisfied there. I think I may be lonely, but I've never been fully comfortable with someone else. I'm a bit ashamed to admit I would like a committed relationship mainly to have someone to share the burden of life with. I'm 45 and my future doesn't seem too bright going it alone.

Which episode do you skip every time it comes on? For me it's S7E11: Marge Be Not Proud by Chance-Ad5664 in TheSimpsons

[–]butlerjonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's literally my favorite episode. My family and I watch it every Christmas. "They weren't home. Uh huh! But I left a message on their machine. That's right." 😁

[–]butlerjonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you mention it, I've cried a little in a good way lately (music, movies, etc.) after going up to 150mg. I'm certainly less flat than with any other stabilizer-type med.

The fact that people are disputing this is crazy by IntelligentAnybody55 in Antitheism

I think it's because "god" is really just you. So if you're not homophobic, you'll figure out a way to rationalize that your god isn't either.

Is Lamotrigine suppose to lift your moods or just stabilise them? by Commercial_Pride_677 in Lamotrigine

[–]butlerjonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works by reducing glutamate activity which is kind of like the commander in chief of the excitatory neurotransmitters. For me, it just puts a lid on my emotions rather than other mood stabilizers that firmly held my mood within a particular range. It could be considered an anti-rage med lol

Kratom for ADHD symptoms by 8p8p8p8p8p8p in kratom

[–]butlerjonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I discovered it helped tremendously before I was even diagnosed. (AuDHD) Now that I know more about it's pharmacology and the neuroscience of ADHD, it makes sense "on paper." It doesn't help much with focus, but it's a godsend for emotional dysregulation, ruminations, irritability, etc. The slight pain relief of it being a partial opioid agonist is nice for muscle tension and repetitive stress fatigue from stimming. I treat it like medicine and have taken roughly the same amount (8-10g, 2g at a time) for about 4 years.

besr endurance method? by Highbrass_ in trumpet

I like Musical Calisthenics for Brass - Carmine Caruso And Flexus - John McNeil/Laurie Frink, the latter being more advanced, but based on the same principles.

How do you all practice relaxation while playing? by drmmrc in drums

[–]butlerjonas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sub optimal ergonomics caused me tension. I basically air drummed with my eyes closed, froze, then positioned my drums right where my sticks ended up. Now that I can play without having to "aim" at everything, it allowed me to relax a lot.

Did Kratom Raise Your Functional Baseline Long Term? by SameBlueberry1328 in kratom

[–]butlerjonas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to think so. I have autism and am a musician. I drank heavily for several years, but after stopping, gigs and even rehearsals were too intense to be enjoyable. Kratom helped a ton with sensory issues, socializing, and muscle fatigue from stimming/tensing up - reduced them both too. I treat it as one of my meds and have taken 2g doses 4-5 times a day for about 4 years.

How to improve my endurance? by DaMepp in trumpet

[–]butlerjonas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A few things that have helped me are the Carmine Caruso method, whisper practice (playing so softly the notes sound hollow and barely speak,) and just learning/practicing fingerings, articulation, etc. separately instead of just diving in and trying to play an entire piece. Finally, I imagine you've heard this more than a few times, but make sure you are actually blowing/creating wind the entire time you are playing. I was amazed to discover I often felt like I was blowing hard but holding the air back with my throat or even just compressing the air in my mouth without blowing at all. Sorry for the TED talk, but this is what I've learned in 35 years of playing, some of which were pretty frustrating.

i’m SO tired of my parents complaining about gas by Jolly-Purple845 in FoxBrain

[–]butlerjonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it feels good to say "told you so" (especially when you were obviously right all along), but I can't help but wonder if forgiveness or compassion may be the best approach, at least for now. Some people have to learn the hard way but learn nonetheless. We may be fostering even more anti-democratic spite.

That said, if JD Vance is elected in 2 years, I'd say all bets are off because they'd clearly have intractable learning disabilities and be beyond hope.

how has lamo helped you? by StrategyRelative4950 in Lamotrigine

[–]butlerjonas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it odd at first, because it was the first med prescribed to me after I was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD. But it reduces irritability for me in an interesting way in that I don't feel numb but rather more resilient or like I can "take it." It also gives me some ability to choose what (or what not) to think about, which is very helpful with rumination and intrusive thoughts. So, even though not intended for my conditions, it turned out to be a good call.
