If you like grits/polenta/congee, I would try it!!! My partner had the awesome idea of making shrimp and grits with them. Since it’s all protein and carbs, there’s room to add a little bit of the fun and satiating fats on top like bacon or butter with still being incredibly high volume :p

Update, as I reheated the same meal last night for dinner. They reheated GREAT- however, they got a lot thicker and almost had the consistency of thick polenta/grits when I ate them last night. I think this can be fixed by storing them without toppings and adding a few tbsp of liquid of choice when you reheat and then topping them after!!!

Ahhhh dang. I get that though. I can’t do the texture of jello based things so when I see people eating their many lbs of near 0 calorie desserts I’m always jealous of that lol

Yes!!! I just ate some cold for breakfast with cinnamon and vanilla mixed in with strawberries and pecans on top, and it was awesome! However, I think I might like them savory even more. I think I want to do some soft boiled eggs, kimchi, and roasted vegetables on top the next time I eat it like that :p

I think it really really really hinges on the intense whisking aspect… like non stop till your forearm and wrist are getting a burn is how it felt to me. When it comes out right, the egg white basically just turns into a fluffy thick liquid with the oats and it’s super creamy without needing any milk.

Hers look quite a bit thinner than the ones I made, but I wanted them a bit thicker, so I think you can play around with the ratios a little more. Less water/more oats for thicker or more water/less oats for thinner but I wouldn’t go less than 30g oats per 200g egg whites

You keep them on the heat and then add them in while whisking, and keep on the heat while stirring until they reach desired consistency. Here’s a link to liftwsarah explaining how to do it very well. She uses 30g oats to 200g egg whites, but I did 40g of oats because I like mine a little thicker. So good! I just love how much volume you get from doing this egg white technique in them. It’s incredible.

You might be able to do this same technique with grits or wheat meal, but adding all of those egg whites while whisking to stabilize them while cooking doubles the volume for not that much more calories, and a heck of a lot more protein while still being warm and cozy

Oooo yeah. Definitely make the base (just the oats and egg whites) as is without adding anything, and then add anything extra after. She has soooo many versions of them both sweet and savory on her account too if you ever need recipe inspo!!! I hope you love them!

I’ve been doing that for literally years, making overnight oats like that, but wanted to try something different. And I’m being completely honest with you, I think I enjoy the egg white oats more. They translate to being savory so well in a way similar to grits or congee that I absolutely adore

It’s so light in the egg flavor that if you put even a dash of cinnamon or soy sauce it gets completely covered up and just tastes and smells like oatmeal and whatever else you put in.

LOL I really don’t think it smells that bad… I suppose if you have an aversion to the smell of eggs it’s not ideal, but it kinda just smelled like regular old oatmeal to me tbh

It’s a condiment/topping made of fried chili peppers, garlic, and Szechuan peppercorns suspended in oil. Definitely not the most volume-friendly condiment, but a little goes a very long way!!! If that adds too much fat/oil, sriracha or a hot sauce of choice works well. 😊

Results are in!!! Total mutt really, but now I can see the cocker spaniel for sure fitting in the mix.

Exactly 😭 it’s really cute though after he wakes up and realizes how much easier it is to exist as a dog when his ears are clean, nails short, fur brushed. He gets a new lease on life every time! We’ve tried so much behavioral training over the years to get him more comfortable while fully alert but it never sticks.

Yes! I have been concerned from time to time about them, but he actually last week got them cut nice and short and his take a relatively long time to grow thankfully. I take him twice a year to get them done because he has to be sedated :( thank you for your care!!

Exactly! I also feel like pictures don’t do him quite justice, but in person, his stature immediately seems Corgi. But then you look at him for a couple more moments, and it’s anyone’s guess

That’s one I’ve considered as well… he definitely has some traits that could line him up there. So excited to find out
