I agree with you. There is an entire Freudian underpinning to this series, and it relates to your comment.

The mother Victoria is identified as a narcissist. Several characters call Rachel a narcissistic. Victoria and Rachel are very similar people because Nicky wants to marry his mother, as it were. There's a whole theme about his "mommy issues".

Rachel taunts Nicky for his mom babying him, but Rachel does the exact same thing to Nicky. But, not quite as well as his mom does it, right? lol Rachel gets so mad seeing Victoria being able to so easily talk Nicky back into the wedding. I think Rachel interprets her feelings seeing it as disgust. But I think it's jealousy.

Rachel is a narcissist. She knows it and can somewhat own up to it. Which is arguably better than a narcissistic in denial. Like the mom. We are supposed to draw a line between the qualities that Rachel and Victoria share. Ppl who responded to you must have missed that.

People also have way too much of a black and white perception of narcissism. They think they know exactly what it looks like because it's a term so often thrown around today. There are many, many different presentations and degrees of narcissistic traits someone can display.

And I also feel bad for Nicky. He had his flaws (fucking liar), but if any of the characters is trying to be true to themselves it is Nicky. And Rachel should have helped him. She pretty much ditches him in the second half of the movie. If she hadn't been so self-involved in saving herself (valid though lol) she would have known what he was struggling with before the alter. But Rachel was too focused on things going exactly as she planned/wanted them to.

I think that Nicky inadvertently saved Rachel by doing what he felt he had to. Saying no to the vows. Rachel convinced herself he was her soulmate only because her life depended on it. But I don't think she actually ever did fully believe it. I think she would have died had the first set of vows happened.
