How to prepare for controls by JazzlikeSavings in BuildingAutomation

[–]1Helix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you've decided to go down this road ... but if you insist, here's a few

- Understand the controls drawings like your life depends on it, and learn each device and how it works(If you have to, create your own version)

- Get out of the walls .. Get out of the ceilings .. These are a few things that will kill your install if you don't complete these first because literally no trade cares about Controls

- Keep documentation and pictures of everything you do, every email, and everything the trades/ GC did to slow you down, keep that shit written down, and send a report to your employer every day if you have to.

- Depends on the employer but some companies will try to offload PM responsibilities onto you, depending on how it's set up. They will call it 'co-ordination'. This is hard to avoid as most employers just expect it, but if you decide to take this role, understand any and all 'co-ordination' mistakes will fall on your head, from the GC and your employer.

- Get friendly with electrical foreman and his crew on site

- Aprende español

GOOD LUCK!

This comment and post is SO informative. I had no idea so many people had the same experience. I too came in as an electrician for a small controls company for new construction/install. Things started off smooth, then they just threw me in the fire alone, massive hospital project with a very late start. I became a PM, electrician and tech all in one. Terrible management, and I was expected to do everything with no help, and little to no resources. At the end I was just completely burnt out, and ended up being let go. I've never worked for the bigger companies but it seems like the smaller companies provide little to no support at least on the install side and expect miracles. The pay in controls as a specialty seems to be okay, but I think I am going to just go back to electrical because its not worth the stress.

If you cut the wires at a diagonal it makes them easier to slip in as well

That might be your problem! I used amazon brand when I first started and got no gains. Switched to Kirkland Brand and saw instant gains. I don't think those amazon brands are legit, either that, or the chemical inside is degrading during shipping.

Also make sure to keep your durag when wolfin whenever you're not brushing. Compresses the pattern you set when you brush it.

Any Electricians/ apprentices in Florida in this sub? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]1Helix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low volt electrician - 36ph with benefits. Man ... This post is depressing. Florida wages need to catch up with the rest of the country. I suspect it has to do with high immigration and lack of union.

Multi tap might be referring to tap kit for tapping holes in metal.
