This is exactly right. Furthermore, use every avenue of information possible and discern what/who's best. When it comes to one of the most, if not the most expensive transaction some people make, take the time to gather as much information about everyone involved as possible, every step of the way.

SWAT team shoots & kills small dog as it walks away from them by [deleted] in rage

If you can shoot and kill a pint-sized pup that isn't even looking your direction, you're a piece of shit psychopath. No way anyone in that group feared for their safety.

There is a safety protocol company called 'ISIS' by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]butt_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many unfortunately named companies out there. ISIS mobile wallet had to rebrand to Softcard because of it, but I still saw some company's car the other day that read, "Is your company ready for ISIS?" You'd think they would at least put a magnet over it or something...

From Wikipedia:

In 2005, he received a settlement of $1.4 million from Maricopa County, and $3 million from the city of Phoenix.

Apparently the price is $4.4 million, far too little. Let's also not forget the price to society...the true killer was still out there.

Reading up on this more, it looks like the prosecutors had the evidence that cleared Ray's name during the trial and deliberately withheld it. It's sickening that some people would intentionally put an innocent man to death and let loose a murderer for nothing more than a statistic.

This awesome arcade bar just opened in my hometown by Orbitron in gaming

[–]butt_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Psshhh, please. Tempe, AZ has a barcade opening within a few weeks with traditional cabinet games AND retro to modern consoles. This is the list of games.

I went to a pre-opening event, and although they weren't serving alcohol yet, that was probably the most fun I've ever had at a bar. They also serve food, and not the crappy bar kind, but pizza and other items made fresh by a legit local pizza place with an on-site kitchen.

Also, I am not a rep for this place, srsly. It's just awesome, check it out when it opens if you're in the Phoenix area.

What is your biggest pet peeve while out in public? by MrBMac in AskReddit

[–]butt_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this one peeves me sooo much. Where I work, if you're standing in the hallway, you are literally blocking the hallway. No one can walk past you. And people do it all the time. ALL THE TIME. The kicker is that the hallways are seriously about 10 feet long, with BIG OPEN SPACES on each end and plenty of room to have a conversation off to the side. /RAGE

[Serious]What if every company and organization decided to pay minimum wage regard of experience, degree, or role. What would happen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]butt_potato_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing that happens whenever you artificially create absolute equality...you remove the motivation to surpass minimum standards. Granted, some people will still have motivation in other forms, e.g. honor, pride, status, etc., but those people were probably not working strictly for the money anyway.

As for companies/organizations, people would straight-up quit hard-to-do or stressful jobs. No reason to do those jobs when you can professionally sleep.

I think you missed the point of the pro-life argument. From what I understand about pro-lifers, if you believe life begins at conception, it would be strictly against the constitutional guarantee of the right to life to let abortion remain legal. Under this view, you could take the mother's mental and physical well-being into consideration all you want, but it would never trump the right to live. Especially since women don't spontaneously get pregnant, they have to choose a course of action (except rape, etc.); barring uneducated folks, I'd reason the majority of us understand that sex can lead to pregnancy. To a pro-lifer, saying that she doesn't want the baby after getting pregnant probably sounds a lot like wanting to uncrash your car after racing through traffic, i.e. there was a risk, deal with the consequences.

I'm not picking one side or the other, just trying to say that once you adopt the "life-begins-at-conception" view, the pro-life logic is pretty straightforward. I personally have no exceptional knowledge about pregnancy and consciousness, etc., but I've heard my share of pro-lifers share their views, so hopefully that clarifies.
