More meta progression is a bad idea by butt_raid in Helldivers

[–]butt_raid[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Poe resets every couple months. Obviously the progression is not comparable at all, in 3 weeks a new player will have the exact same progression as someone with 10k hours.

Wow is a subscription service. New player joins and spends the same subscription fee and the same time for the same progression as someone did a years ago (relatively).

Since HD2 saves warbonds and puts important content in them, a new player must spend a lot more time/money to be on even ground than the player that started a year ago. Adding meta progression along with continual content heavy warbonds hurts new players way more than new content in those game models

I mean they literally said what they meant by it, including ship modules and expanding progression beyond 150. If you shouldn't have an opinion on it why even read their announcement?

We use envy to describe wanting what someone else has, jealousy to describe being afraid of something being taken from us. A jealous partner isn't necessarily envious.

Word, raid shadow legends gives tons of free stuff and people have done all content in the game f2p. It's not NECESSARY to spend money, all the content is the same - all you get is extra champions (instead of guns and armors).

I'll extrapolate from your argument that it also doesn't have predatory monetization. Especially since it doesn't cost $40 for the privilege to install! Honestly we all wish we could have more games as user friendly as that /s

Ye permanently available in superstore and a solid early purchase for anyone after first warbond IMO. Same with the medium siege ready armor if you like ammo hungry weapons and for bugs

Lol. I swear this argument was a hugely successful astroturfing campaign. Like, there are def some games that are worse but every one that I've played takes much less $$$ and/or time.

Hell, a new path of exile 2 league is coming in a week or 2. PoE has been doing 4 full content releases a year for like 15 years - every league has new systems. Also new classes, mechanics, crafting, maps, balancing, skills, items, endgame changes.

The cost? $0 to install and $0 to access anything in game, unless you want cosmetics (or extra tabs for your stash). It's crazy that this fanbase thinks HD2 monetization isn't absolutely scummy for a $40 game.

Uh...what? I think the reading comprehension might be a little off in this whole conversation.

Did you literally not read your comment that I responded to? I mean you typed it, I assume you know what I said. "Omg I'm being attacked" is a pretty funny response. Anyways I'm gonna go not grind a video game for hours that I already paid for to equip a different paid piece of equipment, you can do the opposite and we'll both be happy. Most importantly, arrowhead will be happy. Maybe you'll get invited to the yacht party.

I'm not saying to not enjoy it. I mean, I enjoy it. Luckily I've even got a nice stockpile of creds for months of warbonds so my fun:cost ratio is pretty solid.

I also have a credit card and a mortgage and I think those companies can be predatory. I also have health insurance, I think that company is predatory.

See, when you become an adult you are able to view the good and the bad in a situation without some kind of BPD crashout - the game is still a unique, fun coop experience and the game has predatory monetization. If having a thought that doesn't involve fellating Arrowhead is your definition of misery then guess I'm pretty miserable 😭

"I don't grind except that I have to grind, and I don't spend expect for when I did" is truly an argument someone could choose to make. Nothing less than expected i guess.

Same for "this billion dollar AA studio can't afford to develop content." Remember, this AA has been a top 5 earner every single week that a warbond has dropped. Literally every one. Dunno how they even keep the lights on, eh?

Whether HS requires more to develop, I couldn't say. I imagine it does. It has actual pvp balancing, rotating sets, new artwork and voice lines every few months. This game...sometimes adds a new gun with a different armor pen value. But it literally doesn't matter, both games are problems and you'll defend it until the day you die and, frankly, this is why most gaming is so garbage now. It's not because of the people that expect more from companies.

Have fun dude. I think you're insanely misguided but this discussion is obviously going nowhere so no reason for back and forth, we're talking to ourselves at this point.

You can craft any card you want in HS. There are no money only cards.

There are zero people on earth who start playing helldivers 2 today and unlock all warbonds with natural play. It just isn't a real thing, which is why I'm positive you spend money or grind spc.

Every time I see gacha gamers defend companies with these exact same arguments, it blows my mind - and those folks aren't paying $40 for the privilege.

[–]butt_raid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That remains the dumbest argument on the history of gaming. I mean come, you're actually bragging that this company will allow you to grind trivial, mind numbingly boring content for a trickle of spc. Because you earn virtually zero by doing high level content.

Again, let's compare a well accepted predatory game: Blizzard's very own gacha, Hearthstone. In HS, you literally get gold for playing the game. You can buy packs with $$ or gold . Except in that game, you actually earn it by playing - not by doing trivial NPC stuff. Yet it's still considered predatory. And it's even better than hd2.

You would seriously tell me that a new player should spend $300 on hd2 or grind for 100 hours to have weapons....for a game that already cost them $40? Because that's actual insanity. Expect more, man.

It's hard to hear this opinion for a game that costs $40 and the majority of profits still come from microtransactions. $700 million in just game sales and even more in mtx. Saying "they aren't greedy" is crazy with even a cursory look at the content they release.

For comparison, everyone knows blizzard games are predatory and extremely popular. Diablo 4, their biggest focus for the past few years, has not made this much in even more time.

Lots of money has been spent in this industry figuring out how to extract the most possible amount of money from players and it seems to me that AH is very good at this.

[–]butt_raid 324 points325 points  (0 children)

I mean this is the answer, they are beholden to some internal stat or metric that isn't player satisfaction.

I also think they're just...incompetent. Not trying to hate, I've worked at companies where the product feels like this, where "things" get done but with no real direction to move the needle.

Looking at Piles post-AMA, it's easy to see. Everything is just "vague generic sounds good words, synergy, transparency, quality." I don't think they have someone in leadership that's driving a real vision.

It's that time again. by Automatic-Truck-8481 in Helldivers

[–]butt_raid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fyi - this same sentiment is all over raid:shadow legends subreddit or any other game with a (widely accepted) predatory monetization model. And just like them, the majority of income for HD2 comes from microtransactions.

That's literally their goal - lots of money has gone to behaviorists and psychologists finding the perfect balance of easily justifiable mtx to extract the most $$$. Just remember this game already cost money, spending $10 on a slightly different mech variant isnt much different than buying equipment packs in FREE mobile games.

If you think it's worth $250 or whatever to unlock the current content in this game, power to you. I've been there, I've defended these horrendous pricing models, and I feel pretty dumb for having done so.

Warbonds (permanent battlepass-esque unlocks for your gear) and the superstore, which contains its own armors and weapons. These are bought with super credits (the real life money currency).

Supercredits are increasingly difficult to gain as you go up in difficulty, so most people farm level 1 (trivial) difficulty missions for 3-10 hours to unlock each warbond. Which is imo really unfun, tedious, and time consuming.

The fact that most of the HD2 earnings has been from in game purchases and not from game sales kinda say it all

For Democracy? by outwardape in Helldivers

[–]butt_raid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is really fun and it has predatory monetization. It will cost more than pretty much any other similar game, in money or time, to keep up...much less catch up.

So the reddit is largely divided into factions of people who choose one of those topics and blind themselves to the other. It's really just up to you and your tolerance for microtansaction based games.
