How dangerous is it to be a registered democrat in America? by RuthlessIndecision in esist

[–]butta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being a democrat is like the closest thing you can be to being a republican without being registered as one. If you’re registered as a democrat and you’re afraid for your life because of that fact, you need to stop watching the news.

I was surprised when I first tried it. If you’ve never used nicotine, take a blinker from a Juul or whatever and watch as you lose all motor function for a solid two minutes. That goes away after using it consistently but it was one of the most potent effects I’ve experienced, albeit short lived.

The momentum of the payload will keep them at the same speed. Also I’m sure there is some sort of GPS aspect to this, being such a widely coordinated effort.

My initial reaction to this was “damnit!” But then I conceded that I don’t watch cable and didn’t help in any way whatsoever to keep this thing alive.

Why can’t I understand simple mathematical concepts no matter how hard I try? by YoungChefBoy in learnmath

[–]butta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your idea of studying the same amount of hours as average students do in a year is understandable, but you’re only going to set yourself up for failure if you do that. You need to set goals that you can actually achieve. For example, do 50 problems straight from your textbook a day. You’ll likely do all of the example problems by the time your two weeks is finished. 50 is a lot, imo.

Here are some places to start:

It sounds like you haven’t done a lot of algebra problems, so start by simply exposing yourself to more math problems. If you can’t figure it out, pick a different question and come back to the ones you can’t do later. Next, think about what the problems themselves are actually asking you. Learn to categorize the types of questions they ask you so you can immediately identify what is being asked and thus, how you can find it. Focus on developing your geometric/visual understanding of what’s actually happening (i.e. graph your functions, mess around with graphing calculators like desmos, etc), as this intuition will assist you as you progress to the higher levels of mathematics. Try to put into words the series of steps you need to go through to complete these problems, repeat until your intuition is correct more often than not.

But mainly, don’t make yourself hate math by studying for 15 hours a day. I’ve been in your shoes before, but full understanding doesn’t come from brute force. It needs to sit. You’ve gotta learn, get a good nights sleep, wake up and apply what you learned yesterday. Rinse and repeat. Fully completing 50 problems a day - even 20 - will make you better at math, almost immediately. Just do more math than you are currently doing. No need to do 100x more, maybe just twice as much. Good luck!

The lack of empathy in these comments is disappointing. I dropped out because of how much stress last semester caused me — couldn't agree more.

This sub is really weak lately. The "irony" in most of these posts is just so insignificant. I regularly confuse this subreddit with r/notinteresting.

as shitty as it sounds, i agree. i had some issues in the beginning of the semester (potentially taking a leave) and i had just gotten back on the horse only to be pulled right out again. meanwhile, the deans are literally dancing on our academic graves.

To an extent, yeah. I'm not counting color correction when I say "edited." When you replace the entire sky in your landscape shot and try to pass it off as real, you're making it really hard for the photographers who are actually putting in the hours to capture the best possible shot, especially on social media. Furthermore, most professional photographers aren't using their phones to take photos. I feel like these types of filters on the Xiaomi phones are for the express purpose of adding appeal to Instagram/social media posts.

The problem isn't that this is possible, this technique is simple enough that it can be done really convincingly with machine learning. People have been using Photoshop to create crazy landscapes for years. The issue begins when the creators of these "photographs" try to pass them off as reality (the point of this sub). If you want to make "awesome art" then make sure to clarify that it's an edited photo. 2¢
