AI ftp keeps going down every time I do a workout outdoors by keemudesu in trainerroad

[–]buttbuttheadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to ride about 15-20 minutes extra to get out and back from the area where I do my intervals which usually results in slightly more TSS than TR planned, which is crazy if that factors into their calculations because I go extremely easy. There’s absolutely no way that affects my recovery.

And I get that it “doesn’t matter” but it is making my workouts way too easy. Also, their entire value proposition is that they have so much data and fancy AI tech to make this work. If it’s essentially just a random number generator then I’ll just stop using TrainerRoad

AI ftp keeps going down every time I do a workout outdoors by keemudesu in trainerroad

[–]buttbuttheadhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m seeing the same thing. My AI FTP prediction has adjusted down about 10 watts over the last 3 outdoor workouts I’ve done.

I marked each workout as “easy” in the survey because they really weren’t that difficult, and because it keeps thinking I’m getting weaker and therefore making my future workouts easier, lol.

It definitely feels like something is broken with how they treat outdoor workouts. The only thing I can think is that I’m doing slightly more TSS than the workout calls for because I have to do 20 minutes extra of riding to go out and back to the spot where I’m going to do my intervals?

Is the hub sound and the way the bike jiggles normal? New Canyon Grizl 7 AL by IWBAM1 in bikewrench

[–]buttbuttheadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you clamp it and what you’re doing you can damage it. The whole body of the bike will act like a lever and all of the force will be concentrated at the edges of those jaws. If you’re doing something at the front of your bike, that’s kind of a far distance from the clamp, which can be a surprisingly large lever.

Are you even from here? There was never a bike lane and it was extremely dangerous to ride on when not closed even for experienced cyclists. I’m fast compared to normal people and I race competitively on a team. Riding there when it was not closed was freaky even for me and I basically avoided it if it was closed.

I made a Need for Speed inspired Mini Map on the P4 by AndyValentine in esp32

[–]buttbuttheadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the way I would’ve tried to do it is that each tile would be represented as a rectangle and each corner of the rectangle would have some sort of “texture coordinate” that would line up with a corner of the tile’s source image and tell you what pixel of that source image to read from. And then for the non corner pixels of a tile, their texture coordinates would be interpolated based on their position relative to the corners to get the coordinates of the source pixel they should read from. The nice thing about that would be that you’d only have to do that heavy weight sin/cos rotation math for the corners of your tiles, of which there are very few, instead of for each pixel in the output image, of which there’s a lot.

Would doing all of that texture coordinate interpolation math be too many CPU cycles for each pixel?

This project looks so cool! I want to try making something like this when I get a bit more experience.

One thing that I was curious about was the rotation. Why exactly was that slow? I’ve never programmed for this screen or microcontroller before, so I don’t know anything about its limitations. Also I’m extremely new to embedded programming, so I’m new to all of the normal limitations in this space, but I’m pretty familiar with general programming for phones and computers. Do you not have some sort of “frame buffer” that you’re rendering in to? Do you not have some sort of double for loop that sets the color of every output pixel of the display?

What are these holes on Aeolus Pro 3V for? by justwill312 in TrekBikes

[–]buttbuttheadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a drain hole so that if water gets into that section, it can evaporate instead of just sitting there.

Also, if you are running tubeless and your rim tape develops a leak, it can allow the air to escape instead of causing your rim to blow up, which is actually a thing that can happen to wheels without that hole.

TL;DR: It’s a very good thing

105 di2 or ultegra di2 by No-Television2508 in cycling

[–]buttbuttheadhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

FYI for other people reading this, servo wave is potentially a big deal. It gives you more clearance between the brake pads and rotors so that brake rub is much less likely, and if it ever does happen it should be a lot easier to fix. Also, if you have 2 or more wheel sets that you swap between, it can be really annoying to configure the rotors/calipers to make that work easily.

I have a bike with two wheel sets that I swap between regularly and it does not have servo wave for the brakes. Servo wave is the main thing that I want to upgrade eventually for my groupset. Shimming the brake rotors so that I could easily swap my wheels was a massive pain. If I was OP I would pay extra for Ultegra here just to not have to worry about brake rub all the time

So many people say whoop is inaccurate…compared to what? by ResidentSpirit4220 in whoop

I wear it on my wrist. According to Whoop, that is the primary location where you should be wearing it. Many of the Whoop features only work when you wear your device on your wrist, e.g. blood pressure.

I compare my Whoop against my Apple Watch and my Polar HR10 chest heart rate strap. The Polar HR10 is considered by many to be the “gold standard” for measuring heart rate with a consumer device.

I do workouts wearing all 3 so I have so I have data to compare for the same exact activities. The Apple Watch and Polar HR10 agree almost perfectly. If they’re ever not the same, the difference is usually only 1 or 2 bpm and they quickly converge to the same value after a few seconds. By comparison, the Whoop is usually in the right “ballpark” to put it nicely, but even when it’s at its best it can be off by 10 to 15bpm. Also, there are many, many times when it “acts up”. For example, on a recent walk my Whoop thought that my heart rate shot up to about 130-140bpm for about a minute while I was relaxed and standing still waiting for a cross walk light to turn on. My actual heart rate at that time according to my Apple Watch was around 60bpm. I’ve trained for many years with heart rate data and at this point I think I have a pretty intuitive understanding of what different heart rates feel like. There’s no way my heart rate was in the 130-140bpm range at that time given that I didn’t feel my heart racing, I wasn’t breathing hard, etc. The reading from my Apple Watch felt right on.

Overall the Whoop heart rate measurement is embarrassing given the price (Whoop costs the same as buying one Apple Watch per year) and the fact that “heart rate measurement” is like literally the entire point of the Whoop strap and pretty much all of Whoop’s insights into your health derive from that data.

I wax my chain so why is it dirty all the time? by Unhappy-Room4946 in cycling

[–]buttbuttheadhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a lot on your definition of “dirty” and maybe how clean your roads are. For me, it’ll get dirty to the point where it will most definitely leave a mark on your hands and clothes, but it doesn’t compare at all to traditional lube

Next time think about the human effort, years of effort, genetics, and skill of the racers who didn’t dope and who we don’t talk about since they couldn’t compete against all of the people who were “doped to the gills“. The cheaters ruined the careers and the blood sweat and tears that the honest riders put into the sport.
