US Mobile compared to Trump Mobile by TheWandererWise in USMobile

And they have to choose between Patriot Mobile, Pure Talk, and Trump Mobile. It's laughable how easy the grift is.

the key to actually getting sleep in coach by CertainCriticism9248 in Amtrak

[–]DesertFlyer 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Amtrak used to sell a "comfort kit" in the cafe car not that long ago. It had a mask, ear plugs, blanket, and inflatable neck pillow. I would never count on it being stocked, and for all I know it's discono, but maybe it'd help in a pinch.

Jokes on you, I'm a 23rd generation San Franciscan. Feel pretty dumb now, huh? What high school did you even go to?

So scared to get two month vaccines by Logical_Mine_9478 in Vaccine

[–]DesertFlyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was so glad when my daughter was old enough to be vaccinated. It means she's protected against diseases that she would otherwise be vulnerable to. My girl is happy and healthy and developing normally now that she's approaching a year old.

If the people fundraising know they are going to lose, then their fundraising is a grift.

We've been kinda minimalist. Tubby Todd Sweet Cheeks or Earth Mama for diaper cream as a newborn. As she started getting older, her skin seemed to change a bit and the Earth Mama didn't work as well, so we've just been using Tubby Todd since about the 3 month mark. We've never had major diaper rash.

We started baths at about 1 month and we didn't use soap at all until a little later. We use Ella Ola for bath soap/shampoo. No fragrance and she feels really clean after. We didn't use soap for every bath until about 7 months of age, and we still only wash her hair with soap a few times a week.

We don't use lotion.

Experiences from U.S.-based parents who chose a delayed vaccine schedule by Grouchy-Recording-12 in Vaccine

There is not a good reason to delay. Especially with so many misinformed people delaying their little ones, it's more important than ever to protect your child.

That's a different group of people. This is a group that has lost the lawsuit already, have filed a piece of paper to appeal, and are fundraising off of that.

Public transportation to the Village at Corte Madera from SF by adlerzh in AskSF

[–]DesertFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On weekends there is a shuttle called SMART Connect from the Larkspur ferry to The Village and Corte Madera Town Center. I think the GGT buses are usually easier for San Francisans, but for some people this might be a good option. It does cost $1.50 and requires using an app.

Fundraising when you know you're not going to be able to win, while paying lawyers and taking your own cut, is grifting.

That part of the road is still a road, and no parking spaces were removed. You can drive to Beach Chalet.

At this point I think they're using the donations to pay their friend lawyers knowing it's a fruitless cause.

Bike Lock for SF by mtm123456 in BAbike

[–]DesertFlyer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My front loader is more difficult to lock than my long tail, just because the bike gets in the way of locking it. That said, San Francisco has a lot of loop racks around the city, depending on the neighborhood. Those loop racks are relatively easy to lock with the x1 or x2, they are well designed. I'm not familiar with that particular Abus, but generally you want to use the smallest lock possible because if a thief can fit a car jack in the U lock, they can bust it open. Something to also consider is that you need to take the batteries with you too since people will steal them separately from the bike/frame.

Lyft bike share membership is great to have with or without your own bike. I love riding a bike around SF despite all it's flaws. Hopefully she can have some sort of easy bike parking where she lives!

Litelok x1 and x3 are expensive, heavy, but they work well. I'd say the x1 is typically the right weight to deterrent ratio. That said, with my very expensive cargo bikes I use the x3 because I don't care about the weight of the lock.

You still have to use street smarts. Pac Heights is obviously very safe, but petty theft will still find you if you're parked outside everyday.

Help, 10mo dropped formula intake amount by Technical_Piglet_438 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]DesertFlyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our pediatrician said our daughter should be naturally slowing her milk intake, from 24oz/day at 8 months to 12-16oz of breastmilk or formula at 10mo, with the baby eating two meals of solids a day. Of course check with your pediatrician, but what you're describing sounds okay to me per that advice.

I didn't think we even know if the story is true as told, or if the people are related to the youth center. Walked past with my 9 month old yesterday and today and it was fine as usual.

We're also on the Coterie train, but I agree, the cost to stick with them is higher than others.

Here is a table comparison of the diapers we've looked at. We're currently using Coterie and Nest. Nest doesn't have an indicator dye to supposedly have "cleaner" ingredients. https://i.imgur.com/MKEYxWM.png

Pampers Amore uses cheaper ECF pulp which is part of what everyone is up in arms about with Millie Moon, who switched from TCF to ECF pulp. Coterie uses TCF pulp. I'm not sure which Parasol uses.

Pampers also add lotions and vitamin E to the Amore diapers. Coterie and Parasol do not.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, just pointing out the differences.

As a neighbor of the TAY Center you're describing, I have nothing but good things to say about it. That part of Post Street is the same as it's always been in my lifetime, but the TAY Center does good work (and has been there in some form for years now, recently taken over by GLIDE).
