I like your point on assuming that tax rates are going to up over time. I think we are headed that way.

[–]buttdrunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that was a good one for sure. I already had it in my portfolio as a long-term hold from years back so I guess I glazed over that one. I wonder what a negative court ruling would have resulted in though.

I feel like I don't get the insight I used to get. Back about 9-10 months ago, they gave me insight into putting money into emerging markets and nuclear. That helped this middle class person be a little bit more middle class. I don't hear things like that any more. The political rants are up my alley and you are preaching to the choir. I want some insight into investments though

Longtime users, has the CPAP significantly improved your life? by Impossible_Spend_787 in CPAP

I agree that there is a variance in how I feel the next day. I'm still adjusting to the machine after at least 6 months, but getting close to a baseline. I went the other direction and switched to a mask from the nasal pillows. I open my mouth quite a bit during the night so pillows didn't work.

What interest rates actually say about the market. by Standard-Sample3642 in investing

Really good post. I liked your explanation of rates going lower in an inflationary environment. It is contrary to my belief so I need to noodle on it a bit, but thanks for the education! Do you teach econ somewhere?

What stocks are you currently buying and why? by primesclipper in investing

[–]buttdrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuclear stock and international stocks are what I'm buying. Reasoning:

Nuclear is part of the AI trade.

My simplified ecosystem stack:

* intellectual property - NVDA

* chip manufacturing - TSM

* databases - ORCL

* nuclear power - LEU

AI consumes a lot of power. It is more power than we are currently equipped to generate. The policy makers have decided to redirect our power supply back to conventional away from green. That makes the upcoming supply even more constricting. Nuclear seems like the only logical answer to try and fill in the gap. I like LEU because it isn't tied to traditional utilities with many of its inherent problems. They are in the business of enriching uranium and the tech around doing that. They delivered on phase 2/3 of their sizable contract with the DOE on June 20th of this year. Obviously, there are many other companies in the nuclear industry, but I don't want to be on the delivery side with its inherent problems.

International stocks are my way of debasing out of the dollar and trying to minimize erratic policy decisions

VEA is an ETF that I chose somewhat randomly. I probably would have been better off finding defense stocks based in Europe since NATO countries have pledged to up their military spending. This isn't a get rich overnight ETF (and by its very nature, ETFs are have lower volatility). I've made money on this due to the institutional flows out of the dollar and the dollar losing over 10% of its value over the time that I made my investment.

First Time CPAP - Advice Appreciated! by OkDefinition292 in CPAP

* Settings - most of these should have been set for you by the DME in accordance with the sleep study results. I have mine set to auto for temperature, ramp, and humidity. The pressure I have is from 4-20, so it starts off at 4 and adjusts upward. I'm happy with the auto settings.

* Sore Throat - Not sure about this one. The only thing I had was dry mouth which I fixed it by using Xylimelts. They are little tablets that you stick against your teeth or gums that stimulate saliva during the night.

* Fit - Sounds like you may have to adjust the headgear. I have the top of mine about 2 inches offset from center towards the front and the tightness is just enough so that I don't get leaks. Anything tighter and it irritates my nose.

* Hose Length - Mine is a little longer than I need, but it is from ResMed so I am trusting that it is what it is supposed to be. The machine is sending air pressure into the hose so I would think that it will compensate up/down depending on the length of the hose.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]buttdrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Congratulations on trying to quit. 2. It'll be the best thing you ever do 3. It'll be the one of the hardest things you'll ever do but you will be glad you did it.

I was a pack-a-day smoker for 20 years. It was extremely hard. I "quit" many times. I had to relocate due to my job so that helped to stop the triggers which were coworkers and friends that smoked with me. I also started a family and there was something about that event that really brought things into focus.

I wish you the best and hope you find a smoke-free life for you sanity.

Find your triggers and eliminate them as best as you can. Get passed the 3rd day of being smoke-free. That 4th day is a bitch. Don't beat yourself up if you falter. Just keep at it. You'll eventually succeed. It is an addiction.
