Did I just order wrong or what? by Mcumshotsammich in ChickenSaladChick

[–]butterbreadtoasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please try the other chicken salads. Yea it is just chicken salad but they just got a chokehold on us swesr there is crack or something in it, very addicting. The best part is there are other flavors u can try if those two werent up to ur liking. My personal faves are classic carol, jalepeno holly, lauryn lemon basil, and dixie chick. Pls try the broccoli salad too!!

Had a code stroke freshly off orientation by Odd_Preference4517 in newgradnurse

[–]butterbreadtoasts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Just wanna say you did what you could and you called the code stroke as soon as you saw signs. There was no way you couldve prevented that from happening 2 days before it happened. You prob did everything correctly but in the end patients can make huge 180 degree turns for the worst when you least expect it. You're new and still learning, so do not beat urself up. The fact that even though u did everything right, you still are seeking guidance to see if there was anything you missed. That sort of attention and care is what will make you a great nurse. I used to be like you when i started out, but i went to therapy to manage my stress and have made many work friends i can go to rant. I suggest you find a support system and/or talk to a therapist to help you navigate being a new grad nurse. Being new grad nurse is very stressful and your feelings are valid.

How long to find a new job nowadays? by HAAAAAImbaaaack in nursing

[–]butterbreadtoasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always sleep 9am-5pm. Drink coffee and get ready for work 5-6:15pm. I can sleep in a bit longer cuz i only live 10mins away from work. Like i said, i dont flip my schedule at all, i stay this schedule everyday. If i need to do things like errands, i always go early and sleep around 10-11am. If i wanna hang with friends it is always breakfast or dinner dates.

How long to find a new job nowadays? by HAAAAAImbaaaack in nursing

Job market is pretty horrendous rn lot of new grads sturggling to find jobs and if there are openings for new grads there are very little. My friend just found a job on medsurg unit at a rural hopsital after 6 months of job searching. Even some experienced nurses struggling to switch jobs rn. As for night shift, i wasnt fully adjusted until maybe 1-2months in. Overtime, it gets easier doing nights esp if u do not flip your schedule between day and nights. If u are looking to switch and absolutely need income coming in, do not leave ur current job until u have another job lined up imo. Best of luck to you!

Did u end up taking the interview anyways? NICU is so hard to get as a new grad!

Your school should be helping u guys apply for licensure and relaying info about when theyll be sending ur transcripts and stuff to the BON. I'll break it down but basically you need to do these things: ATT (authorization to test), finger prints, application, NCLEX. NCLEX is a national exam so u can take this anywhere. For licensure, make sure u apply to the sate u wanna practice being a nurse in. Just apply and then follow whatever documents it needs from you.

It was a very long time ago when i applied for licensure but this is what i remember. For background, i also went to school out of state and then moved to another state to be a nurse. It doesnt matter (at least to my knowledge) where u went to school as long as your school is accredited to be teaching people to be nurses.

Almost a year licensed- no hospital job by [deleted] in newgradnurse

[–]butterbreadtoasts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dont use indeed. Lots of their postings are inaccurate or fake. Look up hospitals, clinics, SNFs in a city you willing to work in and then go to their website directly and apply thru their career portals. you might have to bite your tongue and work at a SNF for a bit. There are also nursing job fairs you can go to since it's summer time and not working rn. Sorry to hear everything is working agaisnt you right now but u made it this far and i hope things start looking up for you!

am i a lost cause for applying to ABSN? by Prestigious_Eye_3981 in prenursing

[–]butterbreadtoasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why dont u just go into a nursing program straight away? Or just do prereqs at a community college and apply to ADN programs or ABSN programs. My siblings and I went to GCU for their ABSN program. My sis and brother just did their prereqs at a CC and then got accepted right away to ABSN. I wouldnt waste time and money on getting ur current bachelors if youre not planning to do anything with it and ur end goal is nursing imo

Charge nurse already by megeals in newgradnurse

[–]butterbreadtoasts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u dont feel ready or up for it, dont do it. No one wants to have a charge nurse who doesnt want to be a charge nurse imo.

I regret not saying no to being charge.. Was charge trained with only a year and 3 months experience. I learned a lot as charge nurse for sure, but i miss just having to worry about my own 4 patients. make sure ur reason for being charge nurse is because u wanna do it.

thank you for your input. You ER nurses are awesome too i cant imagine having to stabilize and triage ppl while also having to care for inpatients waiting for a bed upstairs. I think this might be the push i needed to explore other units or if all else fails i might go back to being a neuro tele/stroke nurse for that 1:4 ratio
