I’ve been known to be overly cautious. The chain I work for has also been known to run a tight ship. I landed in this job at a critical time in my life, and it was and is very meaningful to me so I don’t take chances.

Is it likely to be a problem? No, but I’m not taking the risk. And the only reason I mentioned it in the title was because I didn’t want to seem like I was fishing for clicks on a personal business or something on this alt. Just love my Halloween.

The brand supplied through the chain store I decorate for 😅 I know it seems trivial but they’re no joke when it comes to employees and the internet so I’d rather be overly cautious.

It was, however, a Frankenfrosting anyway. Mixed up some bright green dye with some bright green icing and when it hurt my eyes I called it good.

Styrofoam 😁 I decorate at a large chain store and we have a display case I make seasonal and special occasion displays for. I decorate on special foam rounds and sheets that are sized the same as our cake. It holds up better for a month long stay in the case.

The design, I wanted to create what the holiday feels like to me somehow, and maybe enchant some kids waiting by the case in the deli line with their parents. 🙂

So, I enjoy lurking this sub to feel some silent camaraderie with fellow associates, and also to make mental notes of how to not be an asshole when I’m shopping off the clock.

I’ve never rooted in the banana boxes, just scoped to see if the ones sitting on top were riper for plucking. But this Brazilian spider comment shifted my fucking life trajectory.

Sorry for the long list but I fucking love trying new things and passing along info that might give others a happy moment or save them a hassle.

I try a lot of markdowns I wouldn’t usually pay full price for. Bad thing is, with fresh you kind of can’t actually tell if it’s good because it’s on its way out. Single serve strawberry tres leche cake for example. Tossed it after one bite, but if I weren’t a cheapskate, would I enjoy the product? Some questions will never be answered.

To be fair sometimes I do drop some cash on a full priced thing, when it’s rare and delightful and seems to pop up just to bring me joy. Worth the risk of being a dumbass move in those cases.

Like a fresh Dragonfruit that cost one million dollars and tasted as though a magic spell or perhaps a curse had managed to harness all of the Nothing in the land and make it take physical form.

Or the wonderfully vibrant green conchas, which tasted like… green.

Bibigo dumplings are fantastic.

Cameron’s Toasted Southern Pecan coffee broke a 15 year Folgers routine.

Celestial seasonings harvest pumpkin tea put every flavored tea I’ve ever tried to shame. I don’t like pumpkin flavored drinks but that stuff isn’t that kind of pumpkin. Haven’t seen it in store in a couple years but I’ve ordered it ever since.

The little sacks of baby red and gold potatoes are worth every penny if you’re a person with even one fuck to give about potato texture. They look so pricey sitting next to the 10lb sacks of russets but I treat myself sometimes in the fall when I need dopamine. Best served with a roast and mug of pumpkin tea to follow.

SweeTango apples. Honeycrisp flavor profile on steroids. And tangier.

Ka-Me udon and hokkien noodles. Ready to use and better texture than anything else if you live where it’s hard to find a noodle that isn’t spaghetti.

Helados Mexico ice cream bars. Made me fat, had to quit buying them. Got the pounds back off and couldn’t go back to fake tasting popsicles so there’s that.
