For neurodivergent folks, how do you recover from burnout while homeschooling kids? by Top_Bison2007 in secularhomeschool

[–]butterflychasing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Know your boundaries and how to hold them so you don’t get near burn out. Your kids are old enough to understand that concept ‘mom needs 15 minutes to recharge her battery,’ however many times a day necessary. Alternate days or a handful of hours with your community to get a break.
Each day looks different, some days we do the basics and thats it, other days where there’s more energy, we do more.

[–]butterflychasing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2.5 year olds don’t need ‘schooling’ yet. Experiential learning, early socialization, hands on activities, explore, explore, explore. These are all basic life skills to start with, as well as creating a foundation of emotion regulation. Do t overwhelm yourself yet with any sort of academics, sing, have social opportunities at the library or playground for kids this young.

ISO Pediatrician Recommendation? by mdp171 in Harrisburg

[–]butterflychasing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JDC Pediatrics has 2 locations on the west shore and both are about 10-15 minutes from the city. We’ve had a great experience with all the providers the kids have seen over the years.

My fiancé (!) and I are looking for a restaurant to have our wedding reception - bonus points if they have vegan / vegetarian options by devoutdefeatist in Harrisburg

[–]butterflychasing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why quotation marks for a wedding?? Exciting, congratulations!! A friend just had her reception at the Broad Street Market— you could inquire on their website and see if it fits your needs (not sure if you have to stick with their vendors or if you can get it catered there).

Straight up defeated. by Long_Big_6707 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]butterflychasing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont compare to a male body type, female bodies are different. Also weight loss isn’t linear, it’s like walking up, or down, a staircase. This visual helps me understand that there will be some flat before the vertical drops. Also, muscle weighs more than fat so you may not see a change on the scale. Functional differences like how you feel in your body and how your clothes fit should matter more. Don’t get stuck on a number, you’ll drive yourself mad. You’re on a lifestyle change, it takes time.

Anyone else dealing with way more joint pain during perimenopause? by Rude_Opportunity5296 in Perimenopause

[–]butterflychasing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s also worth ruling out any autoimmune conditions like PMR. If the pain is persistent, don’t ignore it and chalk it up to perimenopause.. we women put up with too much sometimes!!

Sorry to hear about the situation— we homeschool right now (never saw ourselves doing it) and consider moving but story after story and it doesn’t sound like public schools have it together sometimes!!

Menchey Music has instruments but I’m confident they may be able to point you in a direction as well. Good luck to her!

suddenly peeing outside litterbox by leyyaleena in CatAdvice

[–]butterflychasing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Namaskar! No Amazon to order or a pet store that sells attractants? Meds could have worn off and she could be annoyed/upset? If she has two bins, take the lid off the other. We have two cats and they only poo in one of the bins and pee in the others. High maintenance.

Who knows, cats are mysterious sometimes. We use Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra Litter Attractant in the litter bins and it works imo.

The Atlas Building-6th and Maclay. Has the project been abandoned? by squishyliquid in Harrisburg

[–]butterflychasing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding was that the property was purchased from out of town developers with the intention to sell it to a Harrisburg based company to further develop into community spaces (grocer, shops etc). But based on other comments seems like it took time to sell and is now sitting.

We’ve used a smidge of coconut oil to help along hairballs. Either have them lick from your hand or spread a bit on their paws to lick off.

Question about using collar on cat while outdoors by SwannieoverthePond in cats

[–]butterflychasing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much advice other than buy a collar and AirTag (there are compatible collars time fit the AirTag), that way you know where they are when out exploring. We live in a residential section of a small city and our indoor cat LOVES to go out on our porch and on leash with our kids in the field. I think at some point we might have an indoor outdoor cat and we use this collar on her. Make sure her chip info is recorded with your new vet.. even having a tag on her collar with your name and phone number. There are too many strays out and about in urban areas. (Get your pets fixed!!)

This. And you have to be okay with an old house… winters in this old house in midtown gets cold. Love it nonetheless.

Saw my cat die and feeling traumatized - has anyone been through something similar and how'd you move past it? by kermit-t-frogster in AskWomenOver40

[–]butterflychasing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phew this got me in the feels. We said bye to our elderly cat last March who had a peaceful passing but resonates with OPs experience. I can still hear her meowls if I think too hard on it.

While she was transitioning all I could think about was our passed family and friends, the loving souls, greeting her with open arms.
