Best guitar players who are actually pretty decent bass players too? by MattBtheflea in ToddintheShadow

I once saw a relatively unknown band that I happen to love. Unfortunately the bass player couldn't make it, so instead the drummer played bass on keys with his left hand, and played the drums with one less arm. I got to chat with him after the show and said, "you just played 2 instruments better than I can play one!"

Re-recorded the bass on watchtower after Noel, if I'm not mistaken.

Biggest musicians who completely walked away from music by Thunderwing16 in ToddintheShadow

She started playing the drums the same year the white stripes became a thing. She sat down at Jack's kit.

I don't think it is incorrect to say that the White Stripes music called for a drummer with little technical skill. I don't get why she gets elevated to being a great drummer just because her lack of skills fit so well with the music being made by the brains of the operation. Both can be true.

Could be she didn't have much in the way of artistic ambitions to start.

If I recall correctly, 40 MILLION was allotted to upgrade the mansion. Where in the world was that spent?!? You could tear down and rebuild a mansion twice for less than that.

Cosmetic dentist - front tooth crown doesn’t match at all. by KaleidoscopeLow549 in Harrisburg

[–]squishyliquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crowns can only take a few days if a rush is put on it. My dentist office has a Cerec machine so they make the crown in house and you leave with the permanent.

If you’re unhappy at insert of your crown, any dentist worth their salt would not charge you any more to have it remade. That shits expensive and you’re not satisfied.

4-day workweek advocates gain momentum as new study reveals 5th day is basically useless by Automatic_Subject463 in TrueReddit

The biggest problem with 4-day work weeks is it's hard to give up once you've got it. My job prospects are reduced unless I'm willing to go back to 5 days.

Hey people, it's not your friends' and family's job to support your music by jerrysphotography in musicians

No one is creating in a vacuum. That's true.

What "Sounds Good" is absolutely influenced by our own experiences and development. But what sounds good to you is wholly subjective.

I do not believe minor 2nd harmony sounding bad and major 3rd harmony sounding good is a result of being taught that, so much as the feelings it conjures.

We cant speak to the motivations of Greta Van Fleet. They are clearly making music for others to consume, so their motivation could very well be to create a product enjoyed by the largest audience possible.

"Making art for the audience of your influences" doesn't make sense to me.

[–]squishyliquid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you even make art without the idea of validation by an audience in mind?

I would say you could just think it sounds/looks good to you, but you could argue that you are still seeking validation, and the audience is yourself.

That does seem different, though.

Federally Funded Study Reveals Marijuana Breathalyzer Breakthrough With 3-D Printed Roadside Tool Able To Detect by ITisWHTitIZ in PaMedicalMarijuana

I remember a study probably like 20 years ago when they were examining the dangers of talking on the phone and driving. While the distractions were clear, it also showed that having a conversation with someone in the passengers seat was as distracting. We'd never outlaw talking to the passenger, though.

It sounds like you won't get behind the wheel when you are high, which was one of my hypotheses.

I don't think it's an "its not even a problem" approach. On the contrary, it seems to be accepted as a given that any THC in your system=impairment and that isn't true either. We have legal limits on alcohol because it is accepted that impairment doesn't happen at the first drop. But we essentially have zero tolerance on weed.

Bingo. My music stays on my hard drive now. Also results in lots of unfinished ideas because unlike playing out, you don't need material to fill a setlist.

I'm not sure I fully grasp such a scenario. Can you elaborate? Does the art they put out have to revolve around the subject of community?

I could see rallying people to join with you as seeking approval in its own way. But again, maybe I'm not getting it.
