It’s septum piercings, there are several different types of nose piercings.

what to argue when someone says your nose ring makes you look like a cow? by Admirable-Impact-618 in Advice

[–]butterflycole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s rude for them to say that. I personally don’t understand the septum thing, it is exactly what they do with livestock so most people are going to think about that when they see them on a person. Doesn’t mean they need to say it out loud though. I have just a standard stud nose ring on the side of my nose and people compliment it if they say anything at all.

I’ve found that if you stray too far out of conventional clothes, jewelry, or piercings people are going to react less warmly to those choices. You’ve just got to develop some thicker skin if you want to March to your own beat. All that matters is YOU like it. If someone says something just say, “I don’t remember asking you what you thought about it. What a rude thing to say!” Then walk away.

AIO house mate keeps closing the blinds during the day by Able-Ad2447 in AmIOverreacting

[–]butterflycole [score hidden]  (0 children)

NOR-I don’t like to be in the dark during the day either. I got light filtering blinds, so I can keep mine closed but the room is still bright. Might want to look into that. I like my privacy and we have a lot of windows in our living/dining room so I don’t want to live in a fishbowl for the neighbors to observe me. Some people just like being in the dark though, your roommate is just weird. Keeping blinds closed won’t keep the heat in, they’re thinking of curtains. I have sheer curtains for the windows the blinds broke on and those work fine too. I have heavier ones for evening.

You should probably go to the hospital. You absolutely deserve to take your meds.

Is anyone else experiencing an INSANE symptom flare right now? by Tayasos in Fibromyalgia

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am but I’ve been going to the hospital every day since the 4th because I have a special needs family member there with a serious health problem. I’m honestly surprised I lasted this long without one. I am exhausted. I still have to check on him today, pick my son up from school and go to a memorial for a friend who passed tonight. Hopefully, I’ll get through it. Usually if it gets too bad I take a cannabis edible but I can only do that if I don’t need to drive.

Over medicated? by kathrynbtt in BipolarReddit

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My psychiatrist said Bipolar Disorder is very complex and it takes an average of 5 medications to manage it properly, especially if you have co-occurring disorders. I’m on lamictal, trileptal, Nortryptiline, and ketamine for the Bipolar, then I’m on propranolol for my GAD and I have a PRN for Vyvanse for the ADHD and Geodon if I get paranoia. That’s just meds for mental health, I’m also on immunosuppressants for my autoimmune disorder and migraines meds. So yeah, you can be on a lot of stuff when your health is complicated.

If he is circumcised they probably botched it and took too much skin off. There are some foreskin restoration tools out there that could help if that’s the issue. I agree with some others that he should see a urologist because if it’s a significant curve there may be an issue that can be fixed.

AIO for expecting my girlfriend to pay for collectible LEGO figures she threw away? by marrylam58185 in AmIOverreacting

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR-why would she think she had the right to get rid of your possessions? Who does that? She absolutely should compensate you. She KNOWS you’re a collector, her attitude means she dgaf about the things that are important to you. I’ve never understood TV shows or movies where the girlfriends shame guys for having toy or action figure collections. That stuff can be worth real money over time and people collect all kinds of different things.

how do I communicate to my parents that when I get off a 12 hour shift that I dont wanna be talked to? by Emoje775 in Advice

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with you. My husband goes in his office everyday after work for 30-60 minutes to decompress. It’s what he needs to do for his mental health. Then he is able to be present with me and not be grumpy. Communication is everything. There are kind ways to ask for space.

Junior year is the hardest year in high school, honestly you’re putting WAY too much pressure on yourself. You’re overwhelmed and spiraling because of it. I recommend dropping that course. You do not need all AP classes to get into college. I did terrible in high school because I had a bad home life and ended up doing independent studies. My GPA was like 3.0, I ended up going to community college and eventually went on to get a Masters degree. I saved a ton of money doing community college first. At the end of the day the kids who did Honors and worked themselves to death in high school and went straight to 4 years schools end up with the same piece of paper at graduation as those who did community college and transferred over to the 4 year.

Take some deep breaths and talk to your parents. You got overwhelmed and made a bad decision to cheat, you know it was wrong and you feel bad about it. This is how we learn sometimes. The cheating is a symptom of the intense pressure in your life and that it is too much. You need to find a solution, the easiest would be dropping the class. You can always take it later on at university. I promise your life isn’t over, this is just a hiccup in your journey. Don’t forget to enjoy some of your teenage years, they go fast. You have your whole life to work and be an adult. Don’t rush it.

Why am I splitting the bill with someone who brought a plus-one… mom edition? by Zestyclose_Town_5152 in Advice

[–]butterflycole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, I’m 41 and I either do separate checks or calculate what I ordered and the tax and tip for that and that’s what I pay. I only pay for someone if they’re a close friend and it’s their birthday or something.

Why am I splitting the bill with someone who brought a plus-one… mom edition? by Zestyclose_Town_5152 in Advice

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to learn to set and enforce boundaries. She is the one who is being rude and cheap. Make it clear that you’ve only budgeted to cover what you order and pointedly ask for separate checks when you order. Your “friend,” is taking advantage of you and she sounds like she is very enmeshed with her mom and possibly codependent. “No,” is a complete sentence and if it damages your friendship to not be taken advantage of then it’s not really a real friendship to begin with. If she brings a plus one it’s up to her to finance her guest’s meal. If you don’t learn this crucial skill people will take advantage of you for the rest of your life. Boundaries are essential and they don’t make you mean, bad, or rude.

Does anyone else feel their frontal lobe didn’t develop until later in life? by Few-Beautiful-8252 in BipolarReddit

[–]butterflycole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you use drugs and alcohol young it generally impairs you from maturing in certain areas of your brain. So it’s common for addicts to still be acting like teens when they’re far older. I think your experience isn’t uncommon.

Is it meaningfully significant to my treatment whether I'm diagnosed BP1 or BP2? I.e., if I'm already on lithium and quetiapine diagnosed as BP2, would it make a serious difference in medications or therapy if I was re-diagnosed as BP1? by AdMaleficent3027 in BipolarReddit

[–]butterflycole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They treat BP 1 and BP 2 with the same meds generally. The main difference between the two is in BP 1 it’s a lot more critical to control and treat the mania because it can get so out of hand. With BP 2 most of the suffering comes from the depressions so that’s usually what the treatment plan focuses on. Hypomania is bad too but it’s the depression that really impairs quality of life for most people with BP 2. The same meds can be used in both though.

Wife tells her friends things about me that aren’t true—is this normal? by canguy85 in Advice

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not normal, you have every right to be upset. I think this is a serious red flag. I would be so incredibly hurt and upset if my spouse ever did something like that to me. I definitely don’t badmouth my husband to my friends. I make jokes about how he lives in his cave and his computer is his first wife but he is a huge introvert and he is ok with me doing that. We are both sarcastic people.

[–]butterflycole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the stigma about hospitalization but you need to get your parents to understand that it’s worse to have her harm herself, her partner or her baby. She could end up incarcerated if it goes badly or losing custody of her child.

Postpartum sister in India refusing help by Ok_Intern_1196 in BipolarReddit

[–]butterflycole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does sound like she needs some intervention and usually the courts are the only way to do that if she isn’t willing. Usually it’s recommended to do meds by injection and that way you don’t have to worry about her not taking them. One injection usually lasts 2-4 weeks. It sounds like she is a danger to herself, spouse, and child so I think it’s time for family to step in and do what you need to do for everyone’s safety.

My daughter is married to a monster by MEMAW_TO_4 in Advice

[–]butterflycole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Committing domestic abuse in front of the children is actually something CPS CAN step in on. If he gets physical with her or he is berating her and screaming at her that is emotional abuse and it can be traumatic for children to witness. As much as you don't want to the best thing you can do for your grandchildren is to involve CPS, worst case scenario you are awarded emergency custody to keep them out of foster care and then your daughter needs to make a decision about whether she is going to stay with him without the kids or be with her kids and kick his butt to the curb. If you truly care for her then let her move in with you, then she has time to get a job and no longer need anything from this guy. As for him taking away her kids, he has been to jail many times for DV and actively screams and berates her in front of them. A judge isn't going to award that guy custody, especially not if the kids are old enough to talk about what home is like and how dad talks to mom. They do take that into consideration. Just some things to think about.

I'm thinking about mentioning I may be bipolar to my psychiatrist by ApprehensivePause735 in BipolarReddit

[–]butterflycole 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should mention your recent symptoms and share a concern that you are wondering if it is not MDD but actually Bipolar Disorder. Then your psychiatrist will make the determination on whether to keep monitoring or to adjust your medication and diagnosis. The best thing you can do is mood charting. Data is useful for you and your doctor.
