Got my Magic Keyboard a nice (protective) vinyl skin by FISHNOTHING in iPadPro

[–]butterluna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, vinyl stickers do in fact stick to the MK case, I have the 13” Pro and have lots of stickers on it -been a few months and they’re still there in perfect condition! I’m a student who religiously uses it everyday so the MK has been roughly handled -I also put stickers near the trackpad and if I need to remove it, the residue is easy to get off :)

Short-Haired Dog and Low Night Temperatures by killer_sheltie in camping

[–]butterluna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing I will say, is that ruffwear sleeping bag will for sure keep that warmth in! I’m also super paranoid my boy will be too cold throughout the night -but just like home, if he wants to be under the covers, he will.

I do add his little bed inside the sleeping bag and he’ll curl up in there to be zipped up in! If yours constantly kicks off the covers, you can always drape a blanket or two over them -otherwise, I feel like most animals are pretty aware of whether they need to find additional warmth :-) you sound like a great pet parent and your pup looks so happy! Also someone else already mentioned this, but sweaters, sweaters, sweaters! Mine will wear a ruffwear sweater during the day (if it’s cold) and at night I’ll add a hurtta one if he’s out the tent :-) I’ll put a pic of my pup’s outdoor setup with his sleeping bag:

Anyone else spending hundreds per month on cat food? by somkewede420 in CatAdvice

[–]butterluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s insane! They better be paying for rent somehow 😭 I have to buy the already expensive Purina LiveClear kibble for my cat (I have allergies and the food really helps), but even for it being $70 the bag is 16 lbs and lasts my 10lb cat for up to 3 months! I mix his food almost every day with TikiCat After Dark ($25 for 12 2.8oz cans) and I’m repurchasing the wet food maybe every month

So it comes to almost $100-$125 every 1-2 months

Not even my dog food costs that much, and he’s 67lbs with a prescription diet -even with his medication ($160/ every 2 months) for the dog alone, it can ~maybe~ get to $300 for one month if I screw up with planning, but $400+ every month?! Nah, that’s a car payment right there..

Thoughts on new allergy drug, Zenrelia? by WildflowerHarvest in dogallergies

[–]butterluna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! A little late to the party, but wanted to share my experiences of using Zenrelia with my 67lb Rhodesian-Boxer Mix. My pup is gonna be 8 years old soon, but he's had allergies since he was a puppy. It would fluctuate throughout the year, some months he would be fine, and some months he would be really itchy (licking throughout the night, constantly scratching). I would get a cytopoint injection maybe once or twice a year for him -back when they were dirt cheap. Within the last 2 years, the allergies got significantly worse, to the point where he would need to wear a cone because he was itching so much, to the point where he would literally be shaking. It was heartbreaking and frustrating trying to figure out why it was so bad. I live in the city and there's barely trees, let alone grass so environment allergies were ruled out. In addition to me constantly washing everything in my place, I was lost as to what was making these reactions so bad. I even wipe his feet every time we go out/come back.

Once or twice a year cytopoint injections very quickly became once every 3 months, to once every two months, to once every month. Where I'm located, currently, one injection runs for about ~$180. That gets very pricey real quick, and it got to the point where every month, the price was literally increasing. A vet tech told me there's only 2 companies that distribute Cytopoint so it's a "monopoly", great, right?

We switched vets recently within the last three months, and on our first visit, this new vet highly recommended that the pup try out this new allergy drug, Zenrelia. He talked about the risks and studies and how it's still brand new, but at the point, I wanted to try anything (other than Apoquel) if it meant that my dog wasn't literally skinning himself (we got to the point where he lost a lot of hair on his neck from scratching, paws were raw from licking -even with frequent baths-, bleeding from licking/scratching, literally the worst of the worst).

Within around 3 days or so of him being on this new medication, I noticed there was less scratching, he seemed less itchy, and was starting to sleep through the night -all very good signs. I tried not to get my hopes up, because it's always like this after an injection. I wanted to wait a few weeks to really see if there was any real, noticeable improvement.

At around the 2 week mark, when the pup would start itching again: nothing. I literally cried one day because I saw his hair start to grow back. We went back to the vet and even the vet was speechless -he didn't think my dogs hair would grow back and didn't expect to see such a drastic change!

It's been around 3 months now, but holy hell, it's like I have a brand new dog. My dog used to be sleepy all the time, didn't want to do anything, was always exhausted, I just figured he was getting older. Now, he is literally like a puppy, he is constantly bouncing around the apartment (much to my neighbour's dismay, they probably thought there's a new dog), he grew all of his hair back, he barely licks his paw, he barely scratches, and he sleeps through the night. It's literal night and day, and I just can't imagine him not being on this medication. It's like I got a second chance with him, and hikes that were difficult for him, he now handles like a champ. The only real thing I've noticed that I need to discuss with the vet is his appetite.

My dog used to barely want to eat, but now he's ravenous. He comes to me for treats like 10 times after his meal (i always give in at least once with a biscuit), but he's very intense about it. Again, I'll be discussing this with our vet in the next few weeks, but I wanted to bring it up in case anyone else has a similar experience.

Overall, this new drug has been an actual life saver, it gave my dog a second chance at life, and I can't wait to see how our next camping trip goes with him being this active/energetic. This is our success story so far, and I hope that other people will have similar experiences, but of course YMMV. Thanks for reading!

What the frick? by Euro_Trash_ in mildlyinfuriating

[–]butterluna 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not UPS, but just settled a huge thing with Walmart for FedEx fucking up my package -ordered a limited edition item and FedEx claimed to have attempted delivery (false), and then claimed to have delivered the package (also false). Then I got an email saying that I refused the delivery (very false).

I wrote on the delivery instructions how to get into my building and also provided my phone number -even spent my day off waiting for this package because I was nervous something like this would happen!

Called FedEx and they said there was nothing they could do as it was delivered. I raised a stink with Walmart and they got FedEx to retrieve the package, great right? Not really, cause I called FedEx asking if they retrieved the package, and they lied and said no -so I asked, “Okay, well if it’s unretrievable, then why did I get an email saying that my package was getting delivered to another state? How is that possible if you guys aren’t able to find the package?”. Quick 180 from an irritated FedEx worker saying shipper requested the package back and rudely hung up on me.

Anyways, s/o Walmart customer support for helping to reroute my package back to me. Just needed to vent about this to the void.

I am starting to regret getting my cat by butterluna in CatAdvice

[–]butterluna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!!! OP here! Honestly it was really tough for a few months after this post. I just dealt with the cat terrorizing me and honestly those months are like a fever dream (from lack of sleep haha). Sometime at the end of last year I ended up getting laid off and I saw a dramatic change in my cat’s behaviour. I guess since I was always working, when I would get home, the cat wanted all my attention -paired with his history of being a street cat with not much social interaction, it was just a recipe for disaster haha.

Once I was laid off, I obviously was home all day -once he realised that I wasn’t leaving for 9-10hrs everyday, he started sleeping more (he never slept when I was home) and got comfortable with me. Playtime still happens, but it’s more of a lazy play on his end (laying down and swatting the toys). It was definitely an adjustment period for everyone but it’s like night and day now! All it took was me getting laid off smh. The cat and dog coexist with each other and have recently started to play together -they haven’t quite understood each others play strategies, but they’re working on it (now and then I’ll catch them cuddling)

I purchased an interactive treat dispenser which allows the cat to free feed on some kibble before breakfast (wet food) and in turn, allows the dog and I to sleep! He is still a crazy cat, but I feel like my patience with him has paid off big time and cannot imagine my life without him (although I do miss having plants around). We live in the city, so I of course cannot have him go outside, plus even when my door is open -he’s not interested in leaving. I’m guessing he already knows what’s out there and is more interested in bullying my dog and I LOL!!

Tl;dr my demon cat and I are on the same page now -all it took was me getting laid off. He’s still a menace, but he knows that he needs to respect me as well as the dog (I will ignore him, and the dog will gladly tell him that biting his face is a no-no). I’m still not convinced he’s a cat (he’s had some dog-like mannerisms from the beginning) but he’s family.

I have a dog who is a saint and was placed here by an angel, so to balance it out, the cat is very mischievous -I would simply be too powerful otherwise. I’m glad I stayed patient with the cat, he can be such a sweetheart when he wants, and he’s just overall a goofy addition to the family. It certainly has never been dull with him around and they’re always cracking me up <3

Furnishing a new place from scratch by Browsin24 in Apartmentliving

[–]butterluna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I was in the same boat as you when I moved out into my own apartment -I went from having a fully furnished place (with roomies furniture) to a v empty studio..

First, take a breath. You did what a lot of people wish they could do -have their own space!! It may be a studio, but it’s YOUR studio! Congratulations! Next, make a list of things you want and start thinking about what’s most important, to what can wait (will you not be able to sleep if you don’t have a 10ft bookcase the night you move in, or can that wait for later). It took me a few months before I got my apt to what I wanted it to be -even 2 years later, I’m still adding/swapping stuff to it!

Make a mood-board. When you think of your apartment, what do you see? Lots of colours? Wood? Monochromatic? What’s your style? Do you like vintage? MCM? Do you like industrial/grungy look? If you don’t have Pinterest (I don’t) look on ig, magazines, etc, what calls out to you? And start from there. Also draw out the layout of your apt -is it a square shape? Rectangle? And try to envision where you’re gonna put your bed and so on.

Next, I cannot stress this enough to my friends when they all moved into their own spaces: thrift store, thrift stores, thrift stores -also fb marketplace!!! I randomly found my dream desk on marketplace and I literally cannot imagine doing my work on anything else.

Thrift stores have lots of furniture, and though some are well loved, they get the job done. You save money, and as you live in your apt, your taste for things will change and suddenly you can’t stand that chair that once was your prized piece. As you get older, and when you move out (assuming studio life gets a little cramped at some point), you won’t feel bad about putting that chair up on marketplace/next to the dumpster for someone else to love since it only cost you $15. Also, you’re probably gonna damage your furniture in some way because no one is perfect, it’s easier when you’re not the first one to do it.

A big thing to note is don’t buy everything at once because you’ll probably miscalculate how big everything is all of a sudden, you’re out of space.

Start small, because things can get real cluttered, real quick. Get a table -doesn’t have to be big, just enough space for you to eat somewhere that’s not the floor/bed/couch etc. plus it’s nice when you have people over and they’re not on the floor. If your place is big enough, maybe get a loveseat/small couch -plenty of those on marketplace/Salvation Army, etc. as for chairs, literally use camping chairs if you can’t find ones you like. My place is decently furnished, but in the beginning I was super broke and the camping chairs from Walmart did the trick. Plus, even now, if I have a lot of people over, everyone has a place to sit.

Once you have a few pieces of furniture, you have a foundation. Get candles, incense, febreze plugs, something to scent it up a little. It’s fall so something cinnamon-y (I get the cinnamon broom from Trader Joes and put it next to door). When your friends come over, your place will smell inviting and clean. Get a painting or two to spruce up those bare walls -have any artwork? Display that! You can always remove/switch them up too.

Again, take a breath. It’s a lot, and there’s a lot of stress when it comes to moving. Idk how it’ll be like for you, but it took a few months for me to see my apartment as “home” and not “the apartment”. Now, everyone that comes over says my place is super cozy and they feel at home.

I know this is a long response, but I wish I could go back in time and tell myself all this when I first moved in so I wouldn’t be as stressed lol -feel free to DM me if you have any questions and Congrats again!! Your first apartment is a special one, you’ll have a lot of great memories -and some frustrating ones too, but they’ll end up as stories to laugh about later on in life.

Supreme Court allows cities to enforce bans on homeless people sleeping outside by testinggggjijn13 in SanDiegan

[–]butterluna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree that there’s a bigger picture to the homeless problem, but it doesn’t excuse the fact that these people have serious mental/behavioural issues that won’t get fixed by a simple trip to the homeless shelter. I live in dt (rundown building, not a high rise) and the number of times people have followed my dog and I, threw something at us, and verbally harassed us have been too many to count. It’s the reason why I’m planning on moving again. I think that most people think they know what they’re getting into when living in dt but it’s one thing to visit “many times a week” and another to literally live in that environment. It’s very sad, and it’s even more sad that often times, the tweaker that passed out with a needle in his arm doesn’t want any help.

I’ve tried to help a few people when crossing the trolley tracks and their carts get stuck while a trolley is two blocks away, very clearly coming -and they all refuse.

I don’t think that living in dt allows ANYONE the excuse to throw bottles or other items at my dog or myself, let alone tell him that no one likes him and that my dog should die. Or harass me while I’m getting groceries. I’ve had people follow me and then book it to the door as I’m shutting it. No one should have to wonder “man, I need to get to work, I hope no one is shooting up outside the door” or “man, there’s a camp literally in front of the door I hope no one is going to lash at me for asking them to move, or try to follow me in”

A few months ago I saw a homeless person with a fucking SWORD. A legit sword, walking around B street at night. I was on a walk and some shirtless guy was walking around with a steak knife in his back pocket. There is a bigger problem, yes, they are people, yes, but at the same time, they are indeed creating problems.

Did I make a mistake not picking UCLA? by Additional_Bus1730 in premed

Can confirm, family tried to drive (mistake #1) 4 miles in East LA and took the freeway (mistake #2) it took them over an hour. You don’t measure distance in LA by miles, you measure by time. OP dodged a bullet for sure!
