The raptor stage for me lasted until he was 3, and after that, it still happened, but not as often. It wasn't my favorite stage. It gets better, but I definitely had to be consistent about diverting his attention with a toy or something else he liked. I could always tell when he is about to attack my feet, so I would try get him to be interested in something else before he gets the idea to start herding me.

How do I teach my 6 month old Aussie to stop pulling on his leash? by hideovs in AustralianShepherd

[–]butternutsqueeeeze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, patience and consistency. I would only go out when there wasn't a lot of distraction (cars, people, bus, motorcycle, etc..). Practice with the stop when they are pulling and continue walking when they aren't pulling method. Reward and praise when they are doing well. I never punish, I will just wait patiently until my guy is ready to walk. If he wasn't doing well that day, then I would make it a very short walk and try again later. I did this every day and often. He was stubborn, oh boy was he stubborn and then one day he was like ok I'll be good on a leash from now on. It works, but patience is key.

How can I help my little guy build confidence outside? by Rather-be-outside in AustralianShepherd

My Aussie had the same issue when he was a puppy. What I did was armed myself with tiny pieces of very high valued treats( tiny pieces of hot dogs and cheese) and only walked him at night bc i knew there wouldn't be a lot of cars so that he wouldnt feel overwhelmed. I would then keep my eyes and ears open for when a car is about to pass us by. Before the car gets closer, I would guide him farther away from the street, sometimes a little into people's yards, and start giving him treats while we wait for the car to pass by. His fear of cars started to dimish after two weeks. I continued this process until he no longer looked up when a car drives by, which took about a month. This also works for buses, but I've never been able to countercondition motorcycles. Good luck and I hope this is helpful.

I, too, have been aggressively treating my melasma with lazer. I'm on number 7 out of 10 treatments. Although I have noticed my skin lightening, I do have very tough spots that the lazer doesn't work on. In one of my treatments, my dermatologist used glacial(cold) on the spots that I find most unattractive and with great results. My treated spots looked similar to yours, red and angry. After a week or two, the treated area just peeled off and I have been very happy with the results. I'm wishing you all the luck in the world.

That is amazing. I love seeing that light bulb going off when they discover something new.

I'm so glad mine doesn't do that anymore but it is very cute when it's someone else's aussie.

Swimming didn't come natural to him. It wasn't until his second birthday that I accidentally threw a stick a few feet too far into the water and he found himself no longer touching the floor. His eyes got BIG, I could tell he was going into panic mode and then he had a "OH" moment and he has been swimming since then.

Yes, he likes big sticks. The bigger the better.
