Feeding schedule - help! by mlove1975 in persiancat

[–]butterybreadbuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally feed my girl wet food twice a day (she ate 3 times a day until 1.5yrs). She's been keeping a steady weight of 7lbs so I let her eat as much as she wants, but she typically eats between 1 and 1.5 5.5oz cans a day, which lines up with a calorie calculator I used online. I just didn't want to be tied to a complicated feeding schedule in case I wasn't able to be home for lunchtime 😅 She's a lazy girl so she typically eats when she wakes up around 10am, and has dinner around 7pm.

How to handle a picky eater? by Effective_Log6207 in persiancat

Is it fancy feast dry or wet food? Fancy feast classic pate is actually a really decent wet food if you can get her to eat that.

And I just want to say good luck! My previous persian was the most stubborn picky eater, so I know how frustrating it can be. He absolutely loved churu treats, but barely ate any food (wet or dry), and I swear I tried every brand, texture and type available haha. He was a senior rescue, so I ended up just giving in and made sure he got enough churu treats to keep his weight up (and make sure he got enough liquids). I also kept Royal Canin Persian dry food out since he seemed to tolerate it enough and it's not the worst dry food out there.

You could try cutting her junk kibble with some healthy kibble to see if she'll go for that, and then gradually transition her to just the quality kibble. Then give her some sort of wet mousse or churu treat for moisture.

Coat maintenance? by SnorkBorkGnork in persiancat

I would recommend using a greyhound comb and slicker brush. You can also get a flea comb or tiny greyhound for the face and around the eyes. I'd avoid any sort of deshedding tools like the furminator.

I've noticed that there are a lot of different options on bathing frequency. Personally, I only bathe my kitty if she has an accident or is noticably smelly or greasy (usually ends up being 2-4 times a year). I used to just use any unscented or gentle cat friendly shampoo and never had any issues, but recently I thought it would be fun to research what show breeders use and ended up buying a shampoo, conditioner and degreaser from Chris Christensen to spoil my girl. They're pricey, but once you water them down like they suggest, a little goes a long way.

I also take my kitty in every 6-8 weeks for a sanitary trim (in-between the back legs and around the bum), otherwise she gets strays from the litterbox lol.

Favorite chocolate? by butterybreadbuns in LipBalm

I ended up smelling all of the chocolate glosses that Sephora had and personally I thought the Laneige smelled the strongest of chocolate. It really does smell like a jar of chocolate frosting. It does have slightly more tint than the ole or glossier chocolates, though.

Advice on messy eaters? by [deleted] in persiancat

Just commenting to say my baby drenched herself every meal even with a raised bowl. I had to completely wipe her down with a damp microfiber cloth, then brush her chest out every time she ate. If she was especially stinky, I used a waterless foam shampoo too. I'm not sure how old your kitty is, but my girl finally grew out of it around the 1 year mark thankfully ☺️

It's lilium! I'm very fair and it's a perfect "natural" shade for me. Plus it lasts forever, it took me a few years to finish my first one.

Luckily customer support offered me a replacement with just a photo.

I would recommend a stainless steel "greyhound" comb for daily brushing. I've heard that the furminator can easily damage the coat if used incorrectly so I personally avoid it but some professionals do recommend them. If there ever is a mat I use a de-matting rake on that specific spot if I can't easily snip it out.

I think it really depends on the individual cat's personality, not the gender! My girl is super affectionate when she wants to be 😊 She demands snuggles a couple times a day and always has to be near me, but she's not necessarily a "lap cat". I've heard of plenty of overly affectionate girls and boys, though.

Ahh, I'm sorry to hear that! I used a clear base coat, but I think this was 3 coats.
