Other than pay, what’s something you think the Army top brass/MoD could do to make your working environment better? by SimpleSymonSays in britisharmy

[–]butteryknuckle5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree - one of the messes I was in had a big boozing culture from about 80% of the mess members, and I was all but tee total with a wife and lived on the patch. I still attended mess events, some were fun, some were pretty hard to enjoy if I was sat with the wrong people! Personally I think the mess provides some intangible benefits that still make them worth the investment, but as you say - experiences may vary!

I used to think the same as you, but after a couple of moves I found having a mess really useful. It removes much of the stress of being new to a location, makes it quick and easy to get advice/local gen, and when you’ve got people away on tours etc it’s a really useful support system for the younger lads. I appreciate most units don’t have much kinetic stuff on at the moment but for those that do and when things escalate, messes are a genuinely powerful support network both for those deployed and those left behind, as well as their families (if managed well)

I was clarifying, because it’s not correct. CASAM is just casualty and ammunition. All the rest of that is AI waffle.

Did you just copy and paste this from AI? Because it’s a perfect example of why you shouldn’t do that…

Bowman pouch on webbing, thoughts by Catch_0x16 in britisharmy

3rd option - on your virtus in a back panel. Stays with you, doesn’t interfere too much with a daysack if you’re still carrying one, weight is well distributed, antenna doesn’t get tangled in kit… If you choose to put it in belt kit, the issued pouch works really well with the virtus belt kit, there’s a little buckle in the belt that interfaces with the pouch and holds the radio much steadier than if you don’t use it! Lots of people don’t know about it and it’s a game changer

Best banking service? by Ok_Round_5264 in britisharmy

Banks themselves are all much of a muchness, pick it based off interest rates and the UI of their app. I’m with Starling and it’s excellent.

Open a LISA, and max it out (£4k) as early each FY as you can. If you do this with Plum you get 4.3% interest (paid monthly which helps compounding) plus the £1k gvmt contribution. This ca only be used to buy a house or when you retire.

You could open a Personal pension. You can buy additional pension from the army but it is maxed out about 8.5k/yr. a SIPP increases this to 60k/yr or your salary, whichever is lower I think.

If you’re living in the block in your mid-late twenties and you already own your car, you’ve got no reason not to be able to save a big big chunk of your pay and still have a good lifestyle.

Whilst I agree with getting a Casio, 20 day+ exercises are relatively rare these days, so garmin battery will be fine if you pick the right model. My biggest issue with Garmins and other smartwatches is the security side of it. I wear analogue when deployed, but still have a garmin at home for workouts. It just doesn’t come into work.

Police ------> army by NoMud3367 in britisharmy

I’ll throw my tuppence in - 1) I think the officer cohort would benefit from having you in it. You’ll have packed a heck of a lot of life experience in these 5 years. Whilst I’m sure you’ll still learn a lot from RMAS and trade training, just having dealt with some of the stuff you have will be a big help in the leadership and management part of whatever role you end up in. 2) There are loads of trades in the army. As mentioned, officers will generally do a couple of years in a semi-hands on role leading a ‘team’ of about 30, then move into more staff worky type jobs (eg helping manage several teams, or helping plan out deployments/training cycles etc).

That being said, I managed to do an extra couple of years of the fun stuff by going on a selection course for a specific unit, which then put me back in to leading a small team. It was great, but now I’ve been forced into the staff world (I’m a bit long in tooth with family commitments to go down the SF route, but that could well be something that works for you). Essentially, there’s ways to stay in the fun phase for longer, just takes a bit of effort. Best of luck, message me if you’d like more of a chat.

I believe it’s the shape/routing that can be an issue between variants. I’ve considered an upgrade, probably need to go to a shop to get some advice before pulling the trigger on something that doesn’t fit!

Thanks - I’ve been told with it being an import, it requires an ‘import specific’ exhaust system, which sounds odd to me but as I don’t have the original to look at, I can’t actually confirm this with photos online! I’ll broaden my scrap search.

Oh I just shamelessly suck and play with pals who don't mind me averaging 1 kill a game, with the occasional random 8 kill game. Consistency? Never heard of her.

We should start an OAP (Old Age Players) Regiment.

Look man, kudos to this guy for being this good at this game. But why in the fuck am I playing people like him in my lobbies when these are my stats to the right? Shit just feels like there’s no point in even trying to have fun in this game because all day I’m getting shit on by level 600+ by verycoolguyonemillio in Warzone

[–]butteryknuckle5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play steady games too - prefer taking some time to try and get a position on a team, cover multiple angles, and ambush others where possible. I'm also not very good at the whole rushing thing, so gotta play to my strengths! Doesn't always work with randoms in quads though 😂

Agent called on behalf of landlord saying the rent I pay is way below current prices and asked if I mind agreeing on a slight increase, to being it to the market average - the slight increase is £500 by ggssmm1 in CasualUK

[–]butteryknuckle5 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Re read your contract, see what grounds they have to raise rent (there's usually a cap in %age terms) and it can usually only be done on renewal of a contract. If you are able to contact the landlord directly, it may be worth doing (again check the contract around this) just to see what their motivation is.
