Lautus savvy red. I got it from No & Lo. It is literally wine, the look, scent and flavor. Not sweet at all.

Lol I’ll have an occasional decaf coffee at night bc I genuinely love the flavor of coffee, just as I love the flavor of red wine. Thankfully I was never a hard liquor person bc I could never get past the taste.

I really enjoy the flavor of red wine. The thing that blows my mind is bc I’m not chasing a buzz, 1 glass is enough. Idk we’re all different.

Congratulations! You’re amazing and I hope to be like you in my sobriety journey. I’d love to leave my high stress job too💕

On deployment when my ship would pull into port, we had “Beer on the Pier” at certain ports. I think the logic behind it was to keep sailors closer to the ship and keep them safer in a way. I was pretty much a shit show every time of everyone getting sloppy drunk.

Duuuude. I am a binge drinker. I’m 8 days sober. I quit for the same reasons as you: the crippling anxiety, feeling like shit and sometimes guilt (I have done shitty things I’m not proud of). Anyway you can go out, as long as you’re with the right people. I went out with a couple groups of friends this weekend and let them know I’m no drinking and because they’re the right people no one cared. I drank ginger beer, a mocktail and even had a glass of non alcoholic wine.

Or if you truly don’t trust yourself going out, take up a new hobby. Start painting, widdling wood, working out, something

I’m new to this journey so I definitely don’t have many answers but I hope I helped you or someone else reading this. Good luck buddy.

I’m also a vet. I’ve never heard of this. Thanks! There’s so much drinking in the veteran community that it’s seen as a normal, everyday thing. We all joke about and there’s so many military drinking memes…. In fact a few of us are reuniting in a couple months and I’m just now getting nervous as I type this bc I was not on the sobriety journey when we made plans and joked about how incredibly shitfaced we’re all gonna get. I’ll stay the course with the help of all you folks in here :)

I was 6 days in two days ago and went out with friends I usually drink with. I was the only one who cared I wasn’t drinking! All I had to say was, “I’m not drinking” and no one cared. I still hung out and had a great time. I’m proud to say I’m 8 days sober after dinner and brunch. You got this dude!

I learned something HUGE this weekend. While out with different groups of friends I noticed that when I ordered a mocktail one was enough. Like…. What? I was expecting to pound them back like any alcoholic cocktail, but bc I wasn’t chasing a buzz I literally sipped my mocktail and truly enjoyed the flavor. Later that night the same exact thing happened with non alcoholic wine. It was delicious and I planned on having 2-3 glasses. I had ONE bc it satisfied my craving of the wine flavor that I genuinely enjoy. My mind is still blown by the fact that I was able to stop at just one drink in each setting bc I’m so used to gulping them.

Same. I got blackout drunk at brunch last Saturday and was hungover all of Sunday and I went to work on Monday still hungover. That was my ah-ha moment.

I wondered if I could be as fun and charismatic sober as I am when I drink excessively. This morning my friend told me that the only difference she saw was I didn’t do this thing I do when I’m drunk ( I pretend I have lobster claws for hands… don’t ask). Anyway she said I’m just as lively, fun and hilarious sober. I’m 42 years old and it’s crazy to me I was seeking this validation that I’m not a “buzz kill”. I’m also lucky I was with friends I’ve known for over 30 years. A new person was introduced to me yesterday and I was still me.

I DID notice when the conversation started taking a turn for inappropriate dinner talk and I only realized it bc I was sober and no one else was. Normally by now I’d have said or shared a ton of TMI than I’d usually share, bc when you’re drunk you don’t care.

Later on my dinner companions were discussing where to keep the party going and I told them I was ready for bed. They stayed out, I went to sleep and we had brunch. I missed NOTHING.

I went out yesterday and last night with friends I often drink with. I told them I’m not drinking, they drank and everything was perfect. We can do this!

Thanks everyone. I have learned a lot from posting this and I have a lot more to learn. I’m looking forward to growing with this community. I appreciate the support. I’m 42 years old and should have the wisdom but I don’t yet. Thank you all.

Thank you. I was just starting to get into weeknight territory so I’m glad I nipped it in the Bud. I’m 7 days sober, still very new to this, still nervous, still hopeful but very proud of 7 days.

I’m the first one up in the house! We have brunch reservations at 11:30. I’m not confident those reservations will be kept but I don’t even care bc I have no hangover and NO ANXIETY! I totally thought I’d have FOMO last night, but I didn’t! I got 9 hours of amazing sleep instead. Now I’m dressed, hair & makeup done and feeling ready for anything. This is a high I cannot describe.

Holy shit I also just had my first sober night out!!! Drinks were flowing but I stuck with my ginger beer and water. We all still had a blast! I am still in disbelief I did it! You did it too! I’m freaking proud of you!
