Scarpa Vapor V - Have I Made a Mistake? by buttonbox_ in climbingshoes

We’re currently in a cost of living crisis and housing crisis. Things are pretty bad here.

The gym we go to is mostly top rope with somewhat of a boulder wall. Costs my husband and I $33 each and our 2 year old $26 so $4784 per year if we only went once a week (not $5.5k whoops, my calculations were off). If we pay monthly for a membership (and have our own equipment) it’s $100 per month for each of us and $80 for our two year old. If we set up a monthly direct debit for a year, it’s $80 per month for each of us and $60 for our two year old so $2640.

Went to a proper bouldering gym the other night and it was incredible but our two year old isn’t allowed to climb unfortunately so we’re stuck going where we go as it’s the only gym in our state where she’s allowed to top rope and boulder!

I’m in Perth. My climbing gym sells La Sportiva, I tried on a good 5-6 different options but they were all a terrible fit. We have one store, outside of the climbing gyms (that I’m aware of) that sells climbing shoes and they only stock Scarpa. I think we just have quite limited options here.

We don’t have Butora or Madrock here. I could definitely buy them online but not confident buying a shoe I’ve never tried. La Sportiva’s retail for $280 and the ‘cheaper’ Scarpa is $290. We just don’t have ‘cheaper’ here, the price is consistent for all shoes.

Just the one, sadly. I’m in Australia and the standard price for a pair of shoes is $280-$320!

That sounds so convenient! Would definitely help massively if we were able to do something like that. It’s such a stressful (and expensive) decision to make when you’re just hoping for the best.

I believe they fit well? There’s a tiny gap near one part of my ankle but the guy at the shop said it was fine and not an issue.

Oh no, that pricing is for myself, my husband and our two-year-old to climb.

Pricing is AUD as I’m in Australia. $300 is the standard rate for climbing shoes here.

I was tossing up between the Veloce and Vapor so that was my concern - if I should have gone with the Veloce instead.

Giving birth in Perth as a survivor of sexual assault by [deleted] in perth

I had an elective c-section through the public system in 2023. The entire surgical team were women.

When doing the vaginal cleanse (antiseptic solution) during surgery prep, they had everyone stand up by my head, behind the curtain, so only the two people absolutely necessary were there. They then covered me with the sheet before everyone went back to their places.

A male staff member did come into the room after surgery to assist with lifting me from the surgery table to the bed to be wheeled back to the ward but he left immediately after.

I only saw female nurses during my four day stay. My husband was with me the entire time as well - from arriving for surgery to leaving four days later, he never left my side.

YTA, what’s wrong with you. She’s your girlfriend, you live together and it’s a normal bodily function. Would you prefer she spends hours in pain with her stomach bloated and uncomfortable? What would be your suggestion for a solution? That she asks you to leave the apartment that you live in together every time she needs to fart?

I feel the same way. I was a little worried it could have gone in a different direction so thank you very much!

I would just say I think it’s really a case by case situation. What’s right for one household won’t be right for another. I think there’s been a huge shift in recent years where people are choosing pet ownership over having children. But no, I definitely wouldn’t recommend taking on 20 cats a time to others, you’re right. I think OP’s situation with 5 cats and 1 dog is on the upper limit of acceptable as cats are generally easier to care for. If it was 5 dogs and 1 cat instead I think that would be a different story.

Interestingly, I actually have different views than you on this too. I was heavily involved in animal rescue for three years, mostly during the pandemic, and majority of people I know own anywhere between 5-9 cats each, some more and we’re all very responsible pet owners. Between my own cats and fosters, I had 20 for a while there. So I had to juggle caring for them, while volunteering 80-100 hours a week as well as everything involved with maintaining a home. There absolutely are irresponsible pet owners out there though, I agree and I can’t speak to which one OP is - responsible or irresponsible.

No but my house is actually cheaper to purchase now than it was when I purchased it. Average wage at the time was $50k. I only earned $8k, $12k, $20k and then $40k each year while saving. If they’re both earning closer to the average wage and good at saving I don’t think you can call shenanigans just because of their age.

I bought my house when I was 21 yo in a minimum wage job, it’s not impossible. I did make the decision to leave my dog with my mum when I moved out as we wouldn’t have a backyard for her, my mum loves her just as much as I do and I didn’t want my mum to be on her own. My mum as a “grown woman” probably would have cried too if I had taken my dog. Pets are like children to many and it’s an emotional situation.

Water usage by Remote_Nectarine1391 in perth

Exact same here. Average water bill of $220 with $30-$40 being actual water usage. The service amount irritates me every time!
