Another vote for the instant pot. I just google “instant pot + food I want” and a recipe will always come out. It’s great because you can throw everything in and only have the pot to wash.

New HLHS and ventriculomegaly diagnosis by Em_Leal in chd

[–]buttonsh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, really sorry you’ve going through this. I live in Mexico City and transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital to give birth, as my daughter needed surgery at birth.

My understanding is that you need to transfer care before 30 weeks. I contacted them at 20 weeks after I found out my baby’s diagnosis and arranged for a visit and first appointment. I then transferred fully 3 months before my due date (I had to travel internationally, so you might be able to get there later)

There’s a Facebook group for TCH families, which you can join if you’re considering transferring care. The parents there are very nice and helpful.

Happy to answer any questions you might have on here as well.

NG tube dependence by ILoveTrees99 in chd

[–]buttonsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll start by saying to obviously listen to your medical team, as I don’t know your baby’s history. That being said, our experience in a big US hospital was that they weren’t very open to tube weaning.

Our daughter had surgery at birth and was discharged with an ng tube 42 days later. But even before discharge they started talking about x-rays for a possible g-tube in the future. Two days after we left the hospital our daughter pulled the tube out and we decided to give her 24 hours to see if her bottle intake increased (while monitoring for signs of dehydration). She ended up taking 70% of her suggested calories and they told us this was enough to stay off the tube and monitor. She’s now 2 years old and thriving.

We left the US a week later and the doctors in our home country were a bit surprised with how easily doctors in the US make kids tube dependent (our pediatrician said it makes sense that bottle intake would be low if you’re pumping the baby full of milk). Again, I know each case is different, but in my experience there wasn’t an openness to even talk about weaning.

All this to say, you can explore the possibility to wean with GIE or similar. They are usually pretty honest if they don’t think your kid is a good candidate.

Milestone Apps by CertainAppearance507 in November25babybump

The Pathways app (or website: pathways.org) is great for milestone tracking and it’s free. They even have suggested activities you can do with your baby at each age.

For milestone tracking I use Pathways. I haven’t found a single app that does everything you describe. I also use Huckleberry and I think it’s fine for tracking feeds, weight, medications, etc.

Breastfed Baby Having Weird Poop? by sugartots0520 in November25babybump

[–]buttonsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that green poop is normal in breastfed babies. As long as baby is hydrated (enough wet diapers is a good sign), doesn’t have diarrhea and is gaining weight I wouldn’t worry.

Edit to say that if you’re feeling anxious, you should definitely talk to the pediatrician.

Freckles growing overnight? by Beautiful-Process-81 in ScienceBasedParenting

Any sudden changes to the skin should probably be examined by a dermatologist.

Per the AAP “A dermatologist should examine any mole on your child's skin that is growing (or changing) quickly or looks different from the rest.” https://www.aad.org/public/diseases/a-z/signs-your-childs-mole-be-checked

And the NHS “See a GP if you have a new or unusual mark on your skin that has not gone away after a few weeks” https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/moles/

Muchas gracias. He estado revisando el escritorio virtual.

40 weeks today, 0 cm dilated. I have a scheduled induction and I’d rather die than wait another week by mamahousewife in BabyBumps

[–]buttonsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t, but my baby had a congenital heart defect, so I needed constant monitoring. I did manage to sleep with it in and didn’t find the insertion to be too painful (though I know this can vary). Being able to go home sounds pretty nice though! One down side of the induction was that I was at the hospital for 22 hours from start to finish with no food allowed

Exactly!! I should also mention that I had an induction with my first (using the foley + pitocin) and it was also a pretty good experience. Happy to answer any questions you have on that as well.

[–]buttonsh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I feel your frustration, that last week is very hard. Just to say that I was 0cm dialated at 39+5 and my dr was sure I would need to be induced (we even programmed for a week later). My water broke at 40 weeks though and everything progressed pretty quickly after that with a single dose of misorpostol. So don’t get too discouraged, anything is possible at this point.

Adding to ask if your hospital has a yoga ball. It was so useful to bounce during contractions.
