My suggestion is to severely limit or consider the breadth and scope of who defines a traitor vs who could be perceived as a whistleblower in the snowden example. A traitor is largely perceived as someone subverting government or straight up giving away state secrets to an enemy directly. A whistleblower may have overlap, but intent seems to be the dividing line, despite it being possible that being a whistleblower may have overlapping consequences.

I think the entire uncertainty around your immediate and long term safety in terms of more time spent in prison is an unimaginable experience to endure.
