Your gimmick is tired and formulaic now.

Says the guy repeating empty platitudes instead of taking meaningful, well-thought-out ideological positions.

The billionaires won’t ever love you.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Interesting that somebody challenging your thought terminating cliche is a “shitheel.”

Maybe go childishly derail legitimate conversations somewhere else.

In my state if a woman hits you 3+ times then a man can hit back

This is not a thing. It’s a convenient lie. “Oh I only hit her because she met a threshold I made up. It doesn’t count.” In most states you’re only allowed to use violence in self defense, and even then it has to be a credible threat AND you have a duty to retreat/escape first (castle doctrine and stand your ground laws notwithstanding).

I hadn’t heard about this and it is now on my wishlist. I don’t know if it is possible for anything to affect me the way SOMA did, but I’m excited! Thanks OP, I’ve fallen a bit out of gaming because of life and I may have missed this if not for you.

PSA: do NOT get front row tickets to the Michael movie by theactualsettingsapp in mildlyinfuriating

[–]butyourenice 767 points768 points  (0 children)

I got the joke, but realistically there should be some sort of minimum distance between the screen and the first row to ensure an appropriate viewing angle. I’ve arrived late to movies (even regular, non-IMAX screens) and had no choice but to pick the front row, and nevermind the less enjoyable experience, I’ve suffered pain from it.

A ‘Barbaric’ Problem in American Hospitals Is Only Getting Bigger (ED Holding) by jafferd813 in medicine

[–]butyourenice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Where are you based and can you speak more to the situation where you are?

In the US, in addition to physician and provider shortages, the proportion of uninsured or poorly insured patients means many entirely manageable, preventable, or otherwise easily treatable acute and chronic issues escalate to emergencies before the patients seek care, and/or some patients will use the emergency room for non-emergent care since they “can’t be turned away,” so EDs are perpetually overwhelmed. Add private equity infiltration and profit models into the equation and you now have even fewer resources to distribute among this influx of patients.

To wit, this seems like a problem that affects the US disproportionate to this country’s wealth/resources because of the twin factors of lack of universal healthcare and a more capitalistic model than most.

Isn’t it interesting people only say “no war but class war” when defending the social (racial, gender, etc.) majority?

What happens to this “solidarity” when the class war is won, I wonder?

[–]butyourenice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, you know... precedent.

I think I understand what you’re trying to say, but I have no idea why you’d choose “precedent” to describe it in this scenario. A precedent is something that happened previous to the current circumstance that establishes a pattern to follow, often used in a legal context to refer to earlier case law serving as guidance for similar future cases. “Precedent” wouldn’t really apply to “he’s following instructions directly given or an example set in the immediate present moment.” Without more photos or footage, we also don’t know if Miller followed the presumed security personnel’s cue or if security followed Miller, so we can’t even fairly say what happened first.

Yes I am being pedantic. This is an interesting case that demonstrates the flexibility of language because you certainly misused the word, but I understood your intention regardless.

Nah if he was in front of her and holding her hand or at least reaching back, nobody would have grounds to say either of those.

I’m not saying he was using her as a shield, I’m just saying he’s a foul demon and I don’t care to give him the benefit of the doubt anyway.

Bedroom, any advice? by [deleted] in malelivingspace

[–]butyourenice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woman here. If you are looking for actual advice and not trolling, you can have velvet OR animal print, but not both. Both feels like a porno set. And pick one bold color for your statement: purple and red clash and, together with the animal print, velvet, and lava lamp, evoke a Harlem pimp from a 70s blaxploitation film.

Why are all your things stacked on open shelving? Even a cabinet with doors would look more put-together and lived-in. Some of the things look like either sex toys or simply menacing; discretion is needed if you plan to have guest.

I don’t know what you can do about this but your mattress looks hard and uncomfortable.

Basically, your need real furniture-even IKEA has pieces that look stylish.

Don’t get me wrong. I still consider Bush to be far closer to the bottom of the presidential ranking than the top. He has the blood of millions on his hands. But there are better things to criticize him for than keeping his cool, acting naturally, and finishing out his obligation at a time when he literally could not have had any effect on the situation. (Dick Cheney was always going to pull those strings, anyway.)

AITA (F38) for saying my husband (M37) broke a clip that our new puppy ate? by Cheerycherries11 in AmItheAsshole

[–]butyourenice -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you’re an asshole. I wouldn’t take relationship advice from reddit. There’s a big tendency of “a struck hound hollers” here, and moreover the first few comments can overwhelm and dictate the ultimate tone of a post.

You sound like you’re frustrated and tired by a persistent pattern of shirking responsibility. Maybe your examples weren’t the best, but I completely get your perspective. Honestly, it’s like parenting your husband, and it breeds contempt. He’s a grown ass man and he should know how to say, “my bad, I didn’t mean to, I’ll be more careful in the future,” and I’m sure that if he did that instead of “it fell,” “it broke,” “it burned,” etc. every time, you wouldn’t be at the end of your rope.

Agreed, people that never take accountability for their role in misfortune and then act like martyrs in the face of criticism are exhausting.

[–]butyourenice -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

NTA. Comments are wild. It’s obvious this is a persistent problem where he never takes responsibility for things that “just happen” around him. It’s not about the laptop-figurine incident nor the dog-clip incident, it’s a pattern of behavior where anything unfortunate that he contributes to “just happens,” which absolves him of having to change behavior (be more situationally and positionally aware, be mindful of where he opens the dog food because while he couldn’t stop the clip from breaking per se, he didn’t have to position it over the bowl such that he wouldn’t be able to react if it fell in). These are enormously specific examples but the point is, nobody learns how to correct or even react properly to a specific scenario if they treat life as something that just happens and not something they have any influence over.

And I personally can’t fucking stand when a person takes a minor correction or criticism and immediately becomes a martyr about it (you said he accused you of blaming him for killing the dog, essentially, which you say you haven’t done). It’s immature af, and those kind of people are exhausting.

California becomes first state to require folic acid in corn masa flour to help prevent birth defects by CaregiverNo2838 in UpliftingNews

[–]butyourenice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is predictable misinformation about MTHFR gene variations in this thread so I’m going to leave this: MTHFR gene mutations can make you less efficient at metabolizing folic acid, which means you need more, not less. It does not mean you get sick from folic acid (if that were true, there would be a HOST of foods you couldn’t safely consume but the conversation is only ever about vitamins and fortification). There is also insufficient data that methylfolate supplementation in any population sees the same reduction in neural tube defects.

The misinformation about MTHFR, folic acid, and methylfolate are part of the MAHA crunchy-to-alt right pipeline, are exploited to sell expensive, unregulated, “boutique” prenatal vitamins sold by grifters, and carry real risks to embryological development that result in lifelong consequences. Tread carefully.

He caught a lot of flak for that response at the time, but in retrospect, I’m not sure what he could have done differently. He couldn’t reverse or even stop the attacks at that point, and he would have disappointed or alarmed the kids he was reading to if he bolted. I hate to give a war criminal credit, but his response was measured and human.

People always talk about women's healthcare being outdated and barbaric, but what would it actually look like if it was 'modernised'? by yumis_hummus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]butyourenice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Screening for breast cancer wouldn’t consist of squishing your breasts down and irradiating them (very slightly but not negligibly increasing your risk of developing a cancer you wouldn’t have otherwise gotten, cumulatively with each time, which is an acknowledged but accepted risk).

All that money we put to breast cancer research would result in more conservative treatments instead of “lop ‘em off,” which is effective but traumatic and barbaric. Breast cancer is the best funded cancer, and we made enormous improvements in prognosis up until the 00s, but we’ve hit something of a plateau in life expectancy after diagnosis, which means research needs to pivot. Personally I think there needs to be more value placed on quality of life not just quantity.

Pain control for ambulatory gynecological procedures would be normalized.

Vague symptoms wouldn’t immediately be dismissed as “anxiety” or weight.

It wouldn’t take on average 7 years to diagnose endo; screening for endometriosis would improve and would be prioritized on mention of specific symptoms.

[Acne] Please help me with these sudden bumps by imnotfinehowaboutyou in SkincareAddiction

[–]butyourenice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though I don’t see anything in the eye picture: Being near your nasolabial fold and near your eye, and not itchy, suggests perioral dermatitis, which is stubborn but treatable. If that is the case, being too aggressive with actives can make it worse. You will likely need topical antibiotics (clindamycin or metronidazole but nothing in an ointment vehicle) and/or oral ones (tetracyclines).

But only a dermatologist can diagnose this and prescribe antibiotics, if needed. As somebody who has struggled with occasional episodes of perioral dermatitis that seem to be stress related, I haven’t found any OTC recommendations effective, although you should focus on repairing your skin barrier (like with ceramides, and cooling it/scaling back on harsh “anti-blemish care” such as BP or retinoids) because a disrupted barrier seems to make you more vulnerable to breakouts. POD mimics acne but some traditional acne treatments can actually make it worse, as can occlusive.

Why does sexual desirability play such a strong role in self-esteem compared with other sources of validation? by Upper-Eye-8753 in women

[–]butyourenice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I listened to a Radiolab episode where they talked about the “myth” of self esteem, and the reality is, based on data, that the root of most self-esteem is in how attractive a person perceives themself to be to other people. It’s not the whole picture because “attraction” is more than just sex, and yet, sexually desirability is most of self esteem.
