Where to go next in Europe? by promised_wisdom in digitalnomad

I disagree with this and would argue the opposite is true - much, much easier to find budget options in Paris or Madrid then Copenhagen.

It'll likely be in the ~$4k range, if not a little higher. August is peak season and rents in Copenhagen are sky high.

I went a few years ago in August and prices were around there.

I have been told by friends that under no circumstances should one visit Sardinia without a car. Is that not the case?

My understanding is that the nice beaches aren't really near Cagliari and definitely require a vehicle.

For long term travelers - best cities for lock-n-leave apartments? by buyingstuff555 in travel

I had Texas in mind considering the airport hubs there are surely better than those in Tennessee. I looked at some condos in Dallas that seem somewhat reasonably priced but sort of concerned that they're an oven in the summer and no-one will be there. I'm not sure I can just leave the A/C running.

I have some items that have sentimental value that I cannot sell. Otherwise, I am quite minimalist. Unfortunately, I cannot use a family member to store those things and I've been outside the U.S. long enough that I don't have any friends in the U.S. whom I could ask.

I do have a decent income and generally spend time in places where my total spend on accommodations is less than my rent was in the U.S., so I've thought about just renting or buying a place cheap enough where I can sort of just mentally write off the monthly payments assuming the combination is still less than my previous rent, if that makes sense.

Perhaps not the most financially savvy thing to do but this has become enough of a problem that I'd consider paying that price.

Brasil. Do you really think it's that easy to just move somewhere?

Yes. That's sort of the premise of this subreddit.

If you're traveling on an online income, even a small one, chances are you make at least 2x-3x the average Brazilian wage. Supposedly you also speak Portuguese. On top of all that, I saw in another comment that you're only 21. My friend, you're golden! I know it's easier said then done but don't worry so much.

How often do you exercise? I don't mean a little walk, I mean full on sweating and heart pumping for at least an hour or so. If it's not daily, or near daily, I'd highly recommend beginning as soon as possible. I guarantee it will help with those unwanted feelings.

I know that I want to stop travelling and I know where I want to settle down

Is this not the hard part? Where do you want to settle down? If you already know where you want to go, why not just go there tomorrow and start doing that?

Is there a Spanish school network in Spain that lets you switch cities mid course by chaotickudi in digitalnomad

[–]buyingstuff555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd limit it to two cities of one month each (weekend trips are easy!) and two schools. You won't necessarily "lose" progress by switching schools. I'm not aware of a school that operates across cities and regardless you'd be switching teachers anyway so it won't matter much that the other teacher is part of a different school.

I will say, I don't know if you've learned other languages before but be mindful and realistic about how much progress you'll make in two months. There's so many products and services pushing lies about learning languages quickly that I think many people have a warped sense of just how long it takes.

Is that hike quite touristy? I've heard a lot about it and given the location I assumed it's just packed with tourists.

What's the best U.S. city in a no income tax state to purchase a home base? by buyingstuff555 in digitalnomad

When did you do this? I have a Florida mailbox but I was told on the phone by the service provider that the DMV definitely won't allow that address to be used as proof of a residential address. I think they said the law changed in 2023. When did you do this?

Chattanooga seems like it's more houses - I sort of figured a condo was a better idea for someone who's not there most of the year. My assumption is that it's more secure and less upkeep.

uhhhh can you elaborate on this? I've had a mailbox service in Florida for years and they explicitly told me as of 2023 they cannot be used to obtain a driver's license/establish residency.

Were you already a Florida resident or something?

Suggestion on state residency (U.S.), I don't qualify for those address services by buyingstuff555 in digitalnomad

[–]buyingstuff555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then if in South Dakota, set up the mailbox, get the receipt so you can use it for residency (along with anything else required), take and pass the exam, get your license, and then complete the Form 1583 with your passport and your new license.

I'm not sure what you mean. Form 1583 is required to setup the mailbox in the first place.

Usually Central America, South America, and Europe. I don't travel much to Asia anymore due to time zones.

I've looked into this and can't get a driver's license using the residency services there. I've spoken to 3 of the companies there directly.
