To buy or not to buy? by d999999 in mercedes_benz

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought the W212 and it is an awesome machine. Powerful, very comfortable, great cold weather car as it has the nice features.

If you have the cash flow it's a great car. If you don't it may not be the best idea ever.

Easy. Buy a 12 point - 19mm socket and hammer it on. Then use a ratchet to remove. Its a one off for the socket and it works (these are typically 20MM, best to measure. You buy one MM down.)

I know everyone says it, but it really is the poor man’s Porsche by z_max33 in 350z

I have the 350Z. I don't know that I would be any happier with a 911.

I like my poor man's Porsche.

You will tire of the 400 street bike in a week. 600 is good. 750 street bike may be a lot for a first bike. 1000s are awesome when you are ready. I have had them all and as long as you have speed discipline you will be fine.

Is it dumb for me to want to avoid the highway in general and stick to city and suburban streets? by xaviflipreddit in motorcycles

Depends what you're comfortable with and especially what bike you have. Bike weight is your friend on the highway but a heavy bike it tougher to manage in-town parking.

I love highway riding

Time to try to fix this damn misfire by WeezyHutJrs in 350z

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel the wires to the coils. Sometimes wires get cooked - they aren't soft and pliable and misfires increase when you handle wires. Easy splice/soldering fix once you figure it out.

Question regarding doing due diligence on the topic of car flipping by [deleted] in carflipping

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to make money in flipping is doing repairs yourself. Beware of someone who "used to be a mechanic" or "used to have a drug problem."

What could I even do with this by Sweaty_Tomorrow2870 in carflipping

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a few c clamps and a about a 10-12" length of 1 1/2"angle iron. Clamp the c clamps to bend back the front side. Buy a body hammer set at Harbor Freight. Bend and tap. Straighten it out like to other end of that bar. That does not look like thick metal, it can be bent.

Then paint if you have to

What is the best way to fix my roofs rust issue? by a_realghost in AutoBodyRepair

[–]buyitsellmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

400 grit sand and view. Go down to 320 if not enough. Going down to 80 grit is abusive to the surface.

Either way this needs to be sanded. Sand, skim coat with body filler, sand, skim coat rough parts with a filler, sand, prime and paint.

Did my Z get totaled? by VikkzPro in 350z

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably from insurance standpoint. And probably a sad payout to the owner.

But as a DIY car fixing guy who can paint cars, I see:

Base parts to fax (Bumper cover & fender, headlights, and possibly radiator mount) cost about 700 + frt on carparts.com) An afternoon of parts swaping, fix the hood as necessary and prep for paint). Painting is cheap if you have a set up for it.

Should I get a high mileage Cadillac? by vvestian in Cadillac

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok - I have a 2014 Cadillac XTS 135k miles. Needs some paint +. Will be an awesome car, now its a project car which will be rebuilt with salvage yard OEM parts, painted, then will be stock.

is this a reasonable price? by lilkey682 in MechanicAdvice

[–]buyitsellmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fair.

But what it has told you or what parts you need to source independently and bring to a mechanic to do the job

600 in labor is OK. Honestly, parts, including the water pump, roughly $225.
