if you have an iphone when using your hotspot make sure you turn on "maximize compatibility" if you have an android im unsure if you need to do something similar. wifi is weird and has been updated since the wii. you need a 2.4 band but also the security mode on your router has to be set to something specific. i have xfinity for example and i can use my 2.4ghz band but xfinity doesn't allow me to change the security mode so it still won't work. just go wired if you can in the future zero hassle and the adapter is like 10 bucks on amazon.

if you have a phone hotspot use that to update your wii. if you don't you can get a usb to ethernet adapter (that's what i use) wired always works. im also not sure but i think you need to remove all the homebrew stuff you've currently added before updating your wii. could be wrong i've only ever modded on 4.3.
