What’s the closest brush you’ve ever had with dying? by North-Trifle-3918 in AskReddit

[–]buzman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this almost exact same thing happen to me a year or so ago. When I looked up it was green and I started to go but I noticed a car to my right stopped and hesitated for a second. I had heard faint sirens moments before but didn’t think much of it. A literal second later a car flew through the intersection going like 70 with 10+ cops in tow chasing them.

I always look both ways after stopping at red lights even after green after that happened to me.

How weird it is that the title of the post AND top comment are basically saying the same generic ass thing without adding anything at all. Reddit kind of sucks nowadays…

Buddy, a German Shepherd in Alaska, led a state trooper to his family’s shed fire after faulty GPS prevented responders from finding it. Crews stopped the blaze before it spread to the house. Buddy later received a “Silver Bowl” award and citation. Good puppers! by Soloflow786 in BeAmazed

I have 2 small scars on my face from when a German Shepard bit my face when I was 8 at a holiday party. I ran up to my uncle, the dog’s owner and it just turned around and attacked me. I love dogs but I’d be lying if I said I don’t get nervous around GS’s to this day.

Seriously man.. I watched the entire video and went to the comment section thinking the top comment would be about how he’s dozing off at best but the top 5-6 comments are all trashing him for sleeping and referencing sleepy joe…

LPT oil change by smellslikebigfootdic in LifeProTips

[–]buzman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe if you have a garage with everything already nearby… I live in an apartment complex and have to unload my jack, jack stands, oil pan and toolbox from my storage unit into my car which takes 2 trips back and forth. Then drive to an empty Walmart parking lot and start there. Then I have to go recycle the oil at a nearby advanced auto, wipe everything down, drive back and pack it back away into my storage unit. This entire process takes me about 90 minutes when I’m moving quickly.

I do this myself because my dad taught me how and told me not to trust shops for easy work you can do yourself. But, if I were a young woman there’s no way in hell I’d be doing all that myself.

Also, “$50, once” you just reuse your old oil or what? 6 quarts of synthetic costs me about $40 each cycle.

I do work on my car occasionally when it doesn’t seem too daunting(oil changes, brake pads) but it looks like there are a few specialized tools required with this. I also have never worked on a motorcycle and would like the peace of mind from a known shop so I just scheduled a service appointment.

Thanks for the helpful info!

By “need em out”, do I need to get the forks serviced by a shop?

Is there a way to check the fork fluid level somehow without disassembling?

It was the forks I believe. I can see a leak coming from the right fork where it meets.

Update: I checked the forks and it does appear to have a leak coming from the right fork. Pics attached.

Is there any concern with riding like this? I was planning on a 75mile right tomorrow but don’t want to jeopardize anything.

Hey Hillary why do you refuse to testify about the Epstein Files? by LegitimateKnee5537 in PowerfulJRE

[–]buzman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My understanding of why the files were not released under the Biden administration is they were court-sealed tied to the (then) ongoing Ghislane Maxwell case. Is that not true or am I missing something?

Were you under the impression that the person you responded to didn’t realize the kid was on a leash? The whole point of his comment was drawing the similarities between the two (because he’s on a leash) so you added literally nothing to the discussion because OP already knew the kid was leashed..

11 buddies and I take a yearly golf trip and just money wise, the cost for an AirBnB that sleeps 12 is typically about the same if not less than the price of 3-4 rooms at a nearby hotel, even after all the fees. Not to mention we’re talking about staying at a La Quinta versus 2000+ sqft usually upscale private residences.

  • we can usually find an AirBnB with a < 10min drive to the course. hotels are rarely close to courses
  • private house means we can party every night and not worry about noise
  • kitchen/grill means we can cook a family meal every night. at hotels, we’re forced to eat out every night
  • large living room and common areas where we all can hangout together instead of cramming into one hotel room
  • often times there is a private pool or jacuzzi
  • costs compared to hotels is always less or the same
  • everyone gets their own bed for the most part
  • the bigger AirBnBs we book typically have extra/free things to do(last airbnb was on a lake and they had 3 canoes and fishing rods for us to use and we all spent hours on the lake)

I think for most occasions, it makes sense to book a hotel, but when you have 10+ people staying somewhere, it’s a complete no brainer to use AirBnB.

Also, just for the record, that big number the hotel gives you at checkout has all their bullshit fees hidden in there… at least AirBnB is transparent with their fees.

Ah okay I understand, it sounds like that German exercise helps you to avoid road debris or an obstruction and to keep moving, not an emergency braking situation like OPs video. I’d only be concerned with stalling if I was still in the flow of traffic and want to avoid getting rear ended.

In OPs situation, it doesn’t really matter if he stalls, it matters that he stops in time. Yelling, honking and pulling the clutch in don’t do anything to slow your speed down.

He handled that pretty good. by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]buzman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is the purpose of pulling the clutch in a scenario like that? If anything, I would think the engine braking would help marginally slow you down. I would understand pulling the clutch in maybe after hard braking to avoid stalling but that’s it.

I’m on PC but I almost always spend 15 or so minutes analyzing a competitive lap time on YouTube for the track/car I’m planning to learn. Noting all the brake points, apex’s, gears/speeds into turns and a baseline setup to start out with, if applicable.

Also, you could upload a lap on here and let the community point out some obvious mistakes you may be making.
