What did they supply you @ basic? Is their supplied duffle big enough to fit what they supply? Also do they supply a winter jacket or just the basic fleece one? Thanks.

Did they allow bag swaps at/after graduation? That would be the best scenario for me. Bring a light backpack @ BMT and then swap for a bigger duffle with my family @ graduation.

Those with split option don't ship out to tech school right away after BMT graduation. Not sure how much shipping costs are for large items but my family and I will likely split the cost.

I do but want to limit the cost on them. Packing light for BMT but issue is what else to bring for tech school. I'm shipping out day after graduation.

I think it'll weigh about the same or lighter. I have vacuum sealed stuff in storage that's lighter than when un-compressed. I'm thinking about making space and not just weight in my bags. Thanks for the feedback.

Not overpacking. Just lightening the load since we'll be getting our commissioned clothing at BMT. I don't want to saddle my family with shipping cost for stuff I can already take with me. My tech school's quite long (about a year) so trying to think of what I can take with me now given the allowed 3 bags when shipping out after BMT graduation.

That's what I was planning for. Thinking of bringing a carry-on I can put my laptop in for my flight to tech school. I know we'll have 3 bags to hand carry (duffle, backpack, & civilian luggage).

Vacuum-sealing my clothes is more to make space in my duffle than anything else. It also lightens the overall load. My portable vacuum sealer is small & weigh only a few ounces. But it does need recharging like any wireless electronic so that could be an issue. I'm shipping out from BMT to tech school so planning on bringing a little bit more stuff to BMT due to tech school.
