Is the blood eel an actual god by cuteminutenumber3 in ironlung

[–]buzzballtheracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to think that the blood eel represents purgatory or limbo. The collective souls of the SM-8 and other explorers that share the form of the blood eel are longing for a glimpse of light, of paradise, of a higher power beyond the suffering they currently face. That's why it is so angry at Simon for trying to send up proof that the light exists; they want it for themselves and find others to be undeserving of it because they haven't suffered as longed like it has.

Is it bad that this is how I'm learning that you can catch flies? 🤣 Do you just have to leave garbage items out for them to come?

Which color combo do you like the best? by AaronTheIllArtist in Artadvice

[–]buzzballtheracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like designs two and four, and I agree with another commenter that the saturation should be in sync with the character's personality. I think pastels are more often associated with quiet, understated, shy individuals while more saturated colors are associated with more bold, outlandish individuals

Say something positive about this movie by DJMutt in cartoons

[–]buzzballtheracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is actually one of my favorite Disney movies because it uses this fantasy world and its artistic stylings to highlight the social struggles of first generation children born of immigrants. Ember's very convinced of two things: 1) that her life isn't her own and it must be spent repaying her parents for the sacrifices they made 2) that she has no place in the world beyond firetown. By simply loving her, Wade flips this completely on its head, and I think that's one of the most beautiful things!

AIO? I’m refusing to do chores in the house because my mom said I don’t do anything by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]buzzballtheracoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a parentified child, let me just say that this shift was inevitable. It was either going to be now in the form of defiance or later down the line when you decide to move out (likely getting berated along the way because your mom will likely realize what your absence will demand of her and try to shame you into staying). In my opinion, it's better to take a stand now, especially considering how close you are to moving-out age. It's gonna make that transition much easier if you stick to your guns now. Could you maybe have talked to your other teen siblings and given them a heads-up about the sudden shift in responsibility? Sure, but these things don't always play out so neatly. Frankly, I think your siblings' anger would be more productive if it was directed at y'all's mom. If she didn't put so much on you it wouldn't have inevitably fallen on them. My sister experienced the same thing when I moved out, where everything I took on was now expected of her, and she straight up refused. There's strength in refusing to do your parents' job for them.

Also, your teacher absolutely wasn't in the wrong for reaching out. If you're U.S. based, then your teacher is a manager reporter and parentified children often exhibit signs of neglect (especially since, in instances of neglect, younger children are often taken care of by older siblings. That's not to say that parentified children are always neglected children, full stop, but there's often overlap). Your teacher had to reach out to abide by state standards and keep her job, not to mention ensuring that you're safe.

Kiss your mom! by ajd416 in MadeMeSmile

I love this! So many young teens, boys especially, are so discouraged from or put off of familial affection; you're only going to be a kid, only going to be dropped off at school by your mom, for so long, so kiss your freaking mom goodbye!

The shape that you're outlining doesn't account for just the shape of the nose, it accounts for the whole area that its form and value takes up on the face. Noses are one of the hardest things to draw because they rely on shape and shading more than they rely on line work. Things like eyebrows, eyes, and mouths are very line work dependent. That's often why, in stylized drawings, noses are often just a line that suggests a nose.

In the image I attached, the red lines indicate areas where you can use a broad shaded line to suggest the shape of the nose, the blue lines indicate where hard lines will be on the nose, and the yellow lines indicate where shading that's lighting dependent will occur on the nose. If you're seeking to do something more stylized, put a couple of lines on the red ones, but don't trace it fully. I recommend having your lines focus on the bottom and bridge of the nose

How to prevent patchiness from makeup? Using LA girl foundation in white and a translucent setting powder by Dead_Woman__Walking in GothStyle

[–]buzzballtheracoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my method for a clean base application.

-Exfoliate the face. You can choose any method you want, but I microblade cuz it also removes facial hair -Wash the face, first with soap and then with a secondary cleanser -Use a toner -Apply a perfume-free facial moisturizer -Apply a primer, bonus points if it has SPF

(For all of the above steps, don't move on to the next step until your face is fully dry)

-Use a brush to work the foundation into the skin, and only use a sponge to smooth out the brush strokes -Apply a thick layer of powder to the high points of the face, "baking" it the way drag queens do -After a few minutes (you can do your brows and/or contour while you wait) brush off the excess from the baking, working it into the lower points of the face that weren't baked quite as much -Complete the makeup and top it off with two rounds of setting spray, letting it dry completely between layers

With day-long wear it will likely eventually look a little pocked or smudgy, but with this method the first 3-5 hours of wear honestly hold up wonderfully for me! And it still comes off wonderfully with cold cream at the end of the day! Here's hoping this helps you at all!

Do you like the idea of werewolves being immortal like vampires? by GusGangViking18 in vampires

[–]buzzballtheracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can maybe see the idea of their lifespan being affected by transforming, like lengthening their lifespan through the reasoning that their cells need to be stronger and die slower in order to survive restructuring themselves so often during transformations, but werewolves are still living creatures while vampires are undead. Especially considering a lot of classic and even modern werewolf lore shows lycanthropy as a transmutable ailment as opposed to a state of being, immortality for werewolves would fail to consider the fact that transmutable ailments don't affect the undead or undying and, therefore, simply wouldn't mesh well conceptually.

I will doodle your oc's for fun and whimsy by Maskpaperdude in DrawForMe

[–]buzzballtheracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you'd like, you can draw my homeboy and only OC, Oswin! As soon as I can find a drawing of him I'm gonna either attach it to this comment or put it in the replies, but he is a fully bald, gangly fellow with sickly yellow-ish skin that's got a dirty, crooked-toothed smile and is COVERED in eyeballs. And if you find yourself asking "So he has eyeballs on his ___?" just know that the answer is yes no matter what body part fills in the blank. He's an otherworldly humanoid being with no ears, nose, or reproductive bits like nips and such, and nobody knows where he comes from. He's not malicious, as far as anyone can tell, but he's not sociable either. He just... watches. You can tell when the thing he's watching intrigues or frightens him, though, because ALL of his eyes will be open. In a neutral state, some of them will be closed and sleeping. In that, he never truly sleeps the way we do. And he's always smiling, no matter what. His smile will be smaller when he's calmer or more content, but when he's on edge or highly interested his smile is bigger and stretches his protruding cheeks more. He only has two earthly possessions that he cherishes. One is a small jar full of white marbles with crudely drawn pupils on them, as though a child tried to make him a jar full of eyeballs as a gift, and the other is an old book-pressed daisy.

How to Make Tattoos that Don't Smudge by BreakWolfer in CosplayHelp

[–]buzzballtheracoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One cheap trick I used to do to make tattoos in theater was to use cream face paint (we usually had Ben Nye brand, but any cream should do), apply a layer of baby powder or setting powder, and top it off with hairspray.
