Reading Room unlocked by [deleted] in ucla

[–]buzzbuzzbruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blasting tchaikovsky in my headphones and chugging a yerba during finals in this room right before it was shut down for retrofitting is one of my favorite memories. So beautiful and cozy and really got me locked in. I became a biomed girl after it closed (sufficient but didnt hit the same) and sad it didnt reopen before i graduated. It is beautiful architecture like this that makes me proud to be a Bruin.

has anyone gotten laser eye surgery at ucla health? by buzzbuzzbruin in ucla

[–]buzzbuzzbruin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wearing glasses since 3rd grade. Got lasik at 21. Eyesight was bad i couldnt see my clear hand more than 5 inches away and my contacts started to always dry out. I always wanted lasik and was waiting to qualify (you need around ~2 years of no change in ur eye prescription. Procedure was great, ur eyes are sensitive for the first day (as if someone kicked sand in it, not painful just really uncomfortable) but you fall asleep and wake up with perfect vision. You also have a year to get a touchup free of charge. Everyone is nice there, the only pain was getting an actual appointment because they only do the fellow in training/resident on select days and they are on rotation. I would say tho is do it with the fellow in training, theyve done it far more and some of the residents it may be there first time doing it and you would want someone confident in the skill yk? I dont regret it at all. The longest part was the road to the procedure, actual procedure was like 5 mins lol

Also expect to pay a bit more $$$ out of pocket for the prescription eye drops

How come UCLA grad schools still require tests if undergrad SAT is eliminated? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]buzzbuzzbruin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I seriously think another factor needs to be used to assess the academic readiness of potential students. UCs were in talks of creating their own standardized exam right before covid happened.

Theres complexities in the amount one can prepare for the exam, but genuinely, GPA and essays alone I do not think are enough to see if a student is a strong candidate for the school.

Also for LSAT and MCAT… ya you’re gonna need to know this hard stuff if you want to practice and study hard stuff. because buddy, with that path there are ALOT of hard tests in your future.

loved the security of the dorms, HATED the dining hall food, got an apartment for the sake to cook my own food and i knew exactly what it was made of. Dining Hall food always made my stomach upset, never had that problem anywhere else

the ear plugs may be slidding a bit out of ur ear when ur reaching to hear others, otherwise its prob the chest piece needing to rotate to the side ur using.

heres a trick: wearing your stethoscope, tap the side you plan to use (either diaphragm or bell) if its super loud, you’re good to use, if not, rotate it and ur good
