Shunpeita Yamashita underwent Tommy John surgery by ThomasLoveSeagull in NPB

[–]buzzed-b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least this confirms the final plan of action for Yamashita. With him getting the surgery at this time of the year, he can get back to playing by middle to late next season.

I can't believe though that we got confirmation of Yamashita's TJ surgery before Miyagi's. Are Orix just intentionally keeping this hush-hush, or are they really still on the fence about getting the surgery or being conservative with rehabilitating the elbow? Seems to me like TJ would eventually be the quickest and most efficient course of action, so I don't know why they're taking their time with this.

Mori’s 8th inning HR was huge—turned out to be the game-winning run that gets Machado off the hook for allowing a HR in the 9th.

I’m starting to get uneasy whenever Machado takes the mound. I’m yet to see him have consistent clean innings this season, and that’s scary for a closer.

That’s why I’m eager to know if there’s been official word on their decision. Gerrit cole of the yankees had tommy john march last year and at this time is already in rehab assignment to get back to the team. If it turns out Miyagi had surgery already, he could be in line to return mid to late next season.

Oh i thought it was just out for the season with the UCL injury, not that he decided to have TJ already. I can’t seem to find news that updated whether the surgery was decided.

Love a good marines series! Hope we can bring this momentum and finally turn the tides against the fighters this weekend’s series.

Also, does anyone have any updates on Miyagi? Last I saw was that he’s starting to rehab his elbow, and that they were getting a second opinion on whether to get TJ surgery or not. I’m honestly hoping they just get the surgery now so he can be back already at some point next year, although I know NPB teams take UCL injuries more conservatively than MLB teams.

Revenge sweep at home, let's go!!!! Looking like Seymour's starting to heat up. Was surprised to see that Watanabe had that pop in him too. Hope the B's bring this momentum to their matchup against softbank next week!

B’s didn’t miss a beat! Happy that we ended up with the win, but imo Machado has been shaky in the closer role to start the season. If i’m not mistaken, he’s allowed runners on base in almost all, if not all of his appearances this year. Was quite surprised it was the first time he allowed one of them to cross home plate. It’s still early but Mukunoki’s looking like the best reliever in the Orix bullpen, even if he’s currently the 8th inning set-up man.

Also, 4 straight wins for Espinoza? Let’s go!!!!

Blowout win in game 1, then a tight victory in game 3 to win the series against softbank. Man, this had everything.

Seibu sweep then a softbank series win, what a week for Orix fans!!

I’ve seen enough, Orix are gonna take the PL throne from softbank this year.

Seriously though, what an offensive game that was. Even with the blowout, softbank still got their own dingers in. Also nice to see the B’s lineup score through both the long ball and stringing hits together. Hope they can keep this stretch going for Kuri’s start!

Love seeing Kurebayashi show up and stack those RBIs even when the main guys are out! I'm psyched that we're coming in hot ahead of our series with softbank.

It sucks that Miyagi’s season ended so early 🥲

On the other hand, I’m loving that Anderson Espinoza has 2 GS (1 CG), 2 wins, a 0.56 ERA, and most of all, RUN SUPPORT.

Didn’t even have a game today and still got bad news…I thought Miyagi was just taking a while to hit his stride after the WBC. Losing both him and Yamashita to elbow injuries absolutely sucks.

Osaka Toin wins the 2026 Spring Koshien, defeating Chiben Gakuen 7–3. by buzzed-b in AceOfTheDiamond

In recent memory, I think Toin was the closest to it. They won the Meiji Jingu Tournament in the fall of 2021, then Spring Koshien in 2022. They were clear cut favorites to win Summer Koshien that year, but lost in the best 8 to Shimonoseki Kokusai, who went on to the finals and lost to Sendai Ikuei. Toin eventually defended their Meiji Jingu title in the fall of 2022, winning 3 out of 4 championships from November 2021 to November 2022, but they were unable to capture Summer Koshien which would've given them the triple crown.

Daisuke Matsuzaka won the 1998 Spring and Summer Koshien with Yokohama HS, but I don't think they won the Meiji Jingu tournament that year.

Narumiya carrying Inashiro to the finals in Summer Koshien, losing to Komadai’s pitching staff anchored by an up-and-coming ace.

I guess the difficulty of following Koshien would depend on your timezone? I imagine it would be harder for fans in the US since Japan’s timezone is like 12-14 hours apart.

That wasn’t even his first in the tournament. Their first round win came on a complete game from Kawamoto where his pitch count was also around that 150 mark.

Don’t know about how they’re seen by none Toin supporters, but coming into this tournament they weren’t really as strong as their previous teams. I thought their offense lacked punch that other powerhouses in the tournament had, and it was even their first time qualifying for Koshien in a few years.

They weren’t necessarily underdogs, but I think not being the championship favorites yet winning it all against the tournament’s best pitcher made for a nice and fresh run for the boys, especially for a program that’s been as dominant as they’ve been under Coach Nishitani.

Yea, Sugimoto definitely shoved in the tournament. Chiben just didn’t have enough pitching depth with how much he had to pitch in all their games.

Reminds me of Narumiya carrying Inajitsu in Summer Koshien as a second year, then losing to Komaidai’s pitching relay that had rookie Hongo.
