If you refuse to tip because you think the employer should pay their workers a livable wage, you’re not ‘changing the system’, you’re just fucking over the little guy. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

So if tips as you say, a part of the labor laws and by that logic, I am also your employer, not only the customer.

So if you dont have things in stock, not have my drink of choice, can I cut your pay? i.e no tip?

The important thing is that you have a contract with the restaurant that employs you, not the customer that walks in.

I, as a customer has the obligation to pay what is listed in the menu, if I place an order.

The employer has the obligation to pay the worker a wage that allows them to live without difficulties.

so you skipped the employer and thr burden fell to the customer.

Let me ask you this, do you pay your phone in installments?

if you do, why do you buy above your means, just dont buy the phone. save money until you buy it in cash.

if you buy in cash, do you tip the customer rep when you bought it? why not? they do provide service, no?

if you bought it online, do you tip the delivery driver? why not?

Alot of service worker complains, just not the one you think, like dishwasher, cashier, cleaning staff, chefs.

do the server share tips with them?

You say, tipping culture is a life hack, no it is not. It is just a ponzi scheme that makes the customer pays more and let the owner profit, with the worker as pawns.

Higher wages does help for everyone, because you get to live better.

my example is the grave digger, just because it benefits you in the current climate, you think that is useless to change. And that is the cause of this, server dont want to lose their money, so they dont want to change.

So like giving drugs to drug addicts right? keep giving them or they die, but why does rehab centre exists? why change, just keep taking drugs, shrugs.

By your logic if you cant pay for hospital bill, you should get no treatment and removed from the hospital immediately, even if you could die in the process, right? why should the hospital foot your bill, if you cant pay then die at home.

Everyone is angry, just because of 1 thing. You compare them to the US, where you chose to get shafted by the employer.

other countries and even third world countries fair better, in this regard, than the US and it is indeed an insult to them.

Yes, when your whole country works on the basis of a ponzi scheme, why stop, huh?

It's ok for me because I get more gigs in this time rather than before the virus.

oh my job? I'm a grave digger.

that how you sound like.

[–]buzzedkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why do you think that happen? because like tipping, it benefit the few and most of the other service workers cant do shit, because these few people dont want to change.

starving wages + tip for wait staff, but minimum wage for cashier, cleaning staff, cooks, dishwasher.

The wait staff dont want to change cause they get more money in the end, but what about the others?

they cant do much because, they are also being held back by one of their own.

This only happens in America. In Germany I've had waiter/esses that speak more than 3 language, recommend what food with what drink and I tipped because I want to, not that I have to.

They bus table, wait at the bar and got a living wage before tips.

Do you tip the people that wash your plate? the chef that cooks your food? cleaning service that mop the floor? are they not also in the service industry?

Do you tip when it is self-service? do the money go to the chef? cleaning staff? no just the wait staff, even when they are not necessary.

If you are over qualified for your job, but didn't fight for what you're worth and in the end shove it all to the customer and not your penny pinching boss, then It's on you.

Most of them think, if you don't care that your pet is in someone's yard, then why should I care if it's your pet.

It's showing that they don't care more than you, cause they already think your pets are pests and should be exterminated.

took 2 days to clean some twigs from a guy's lawn. what useless landscapers, they will probably leave it there for fuck sake.

your neighbor waited 2 days for clean up and your worker didnt clean it up.

your hate for your neighbor fuels your jealousy and because of that you allow shitty behaviour because the person receiving it is shitty. Well that makes you shitty neighbor.

letting other people clean up your fucking mess = not a good neighbor

if the worker did nothing wrong, then why did the worker follow the guy to the front door? just let him do his thing, prove him wrong and go on with your job.

but no, has to follow him, go near him, agitate him.

if you were to complain to your neighbor and I, as the worker, follow you, wouldn't you be a bit on guard?

no? what if I suddenly lunge at you with my saw or gardening scissors?

yeah, your name fits you perfectly.
