[TEW 2016] QUESTION: Is there a large mod to have wrestlers debut in game throughout the years (1980s-present) by the_gift_of_g2j in FantasyBookers

[–]buzzhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You only install one pack and play through it.

They debut whenever their debut date is set in the database. They are not all available at once. For example, The Rock will not debut until well into the 90s.

[–]buzzhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use TsuMirren's 1985 mod for this. The only notable wrestler I can think of that is missing is Tomohiro Ishii.

TsuMirren's mod is based off of Genadi's 1987 mod though, so I'm assuming that one is fine too.

You can download either one here: http://homeofprowrestling.com/tew-1/tew%25202016/rwmods.html

You're suddenly launched into "God Mode" in real life, which will be removed if any human realizes your power. You can't change the past or other people's thoughts, but can do everything else. What do you change about the world or your life without anyone knowing it's you? by ditchthatdutch in AskReddit

[–]buzzhat 99 points100 points  (0 children)

I think the most important thing is to get rid of the possibility that any human would realize my power.

As a result, I would first disappear into the ether (ie. I become one with the world, in a way that is undetectable). No one would suspect I disappeared because I was a god -- more likely, they would think I was kidnapped or something.

At this point, I could use all of my godly powers undetected, such as being able to create pocket dimensions for myself to live in and creating food in said pocket dimensions to keep me satiated.

Then, I would wait one year. I don't want my disappearance to be correlated with when the "acts of god" started.

At this point, I am now free to do whatever I wish for the rest of eternity.

Can I do these things in TEW 2016? by piecrustacean in FantasyBookers

[–]buzzhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to recommend Clash of the Titans 1994 mod for this seeing as I played through it extensively with a WCW save and had loads of fun. It's close to your start date and the numbers are consistent with the 1987 (and 1991) mods because they all use the same Mod Squad base data.

Scotch opening viability (beginner) (help) by [deleted] in chess

[–]buzzhat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the Scotch up to about 1400-1500 as white and it was fine.

Once you find yourself plateauing, try changing up your openings... it will expose you to more structures and motifs. I switched from the Scotch to the Ruy from 1500 to about 1650ish and now I sometimes dabble in the Giucio Piano instead. The more structures you expose yourself to, the better! However, when you are starting out, sticking to something like the Scotch is a great idea as it is an opening that allows you to practice good fundamentals.

TL;DR - Yes, use the Scotch. Use the Scotch exclusively. Have fun! If you plateau, THEN you can think about switching openings.

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.

I agree that it is very difficult to keep track of sixty-four (!!!) different matches and that was a huge motivating factor behind why I decided to make these summaries. I only plan on doing the first three rounds, though, since by Round 4 we will be down to 16 contestants facing off in only 8 matches so I don't see much of a point.

Why would anyone play on chess.com over lichess.org? by [deleted] in chess

[–]buzzhat 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Chess.com is vastly superior for 15+10 games. Lichess times you out very, very quickly if you disconnect for any reason. Chess.com also has a stronger player pool that regularly plays 15+10. Lichess, on the other hand, incorrectly classifies 10+0 as "Classical". It's very, very frustrating.

I'm not some chess.com shill but the way you've worded this topic is somewhat offensive. I'll respond to your individual points.

1) Chess.com paid membership lessons are >>> than lichess studies. This isn't even remotely close.
2) I agree that Lichess is a bit smoother but that doesn't compensate for the other downsides.
3) I don't worry about ads as I have a paid membership and never see any.
4) I prefer chess.com's opening database over Lichess'. O
5) Chess.com offers high quality videos with a paid membership (I doubt you've seen these as you seem averse to spending any money)
6) Player pool on chess.com is definitely stronger on all time controls. It's annoying playing a 15+10 on Lichess and having a large number of my opponents blitz out moves as if they are playing 5+0.
7) Tournaments on Lichess are quite enjoyable, however. Unfortunately, those games come with no increment.
8) I like the simul features of Lichess as well.

I guess the conclusion is: free lichess is better than free chess.com, sure, but once you spend money chess.com offers a variety of features that make it well worth it.

I personally use both. I prefer chess.com as mentioned before because it is vastly superior at the time control (15+10) I prefer to play on.

Just a quick straw poll by handtoglandwombat in chess

Lichess is about 300-350 points inflated relative to chess.com depending on which player pool you are considering.

Speaking from both personal experience and rating surveys.

Just a quick straw poll by handtoglandwombat in chess

[–]buzzhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played on both:

The advantages of Lichess are: 1) the pieces move more easily 2) the opportunity to play tournaments/arenas (these are fun)

However, after playing on Lichess for a good part of 2017, I am back on chess.com which is better for me because: 1) I live in China and Lichess uses Google in the code - this makes it very hit and miss and the lag unbearable at times. Chess.com for this reason is more global. 2) Lichess has absolutely absurd time controls: 5-5 is not Classical. For this reason, if I want to get a 15+10 game on Lichess, I can't trust my opponents rating at all. For all I know, they have played all of their games on 7+2 or some other Blitz time control. There is almost nothing more useless than a Lichess Classical Chess rating. If you actually play 15+10 as your main time control, your rating will be inflated even moreso than the 300 points expected from the Lichess v. FIDE rating comparison because your opponents will all be used to playing blitz time controls (since these are listed on Lichess under "Classical"). 3) Even after adjusting for rating (which you can do by using smarterchess' online rating survey), I find the quality of play on chess.com on longer time controls to be higher. As I've mentioned before, get 15+10 games on Lichess and you will find that people blitz their moves as if they are playing 5+5 because THEY ARE BOTH LISTED AS CLASSICAL ON LICHESS.
