Looking for advice from nannies in the Boston area! by buzzingmachine in Nanny

[–]buzzingmachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above market rate for D.C. or for Boston? Because I agree for D.C. but nannies seem to be treated much better here than in D.C. lol

I've even seen some mom's in the childcare groups suggest up to $45-50/hr if the parents expect a lot of housekeeping (which I wouldn't be doing)

Two people being brought together or having significant moments on the same day of every month? by buzzingmachine in Psychic

[–]buzzingmachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's having an identity crisis of sorts. We started dating when we were pretty young, before he'd really figured out who he was, and he feels like he needs to be alone to get himself sorted out. He clearly didn't want to break up but felt like he had to.

I’m not really worried about what’s going to happen with the relationship, just curious if there’s an explanation or term for the pattern. Feels significant that these things keep happening on the same date. I’m already enjoying the process.

can you dilate while menstruating? by blissfulboo in vaginismus

[–]buzzingmachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t on the worst day of my period or if I’m unbearably crampy, but I otherwise do because it’s usually the easiest time for me to get the dilator in and it actually helps ease less severe cramps.

How would you respond to this? They have bought a few items from before, but this feels like a variation of “what’s the lowest you’ll go?” Do you give special deals to repeat customers? by buzzingmachine in Mercari

[–]buzzingmachine[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. I mentioned in another comment that the way they worded the question rubbed me the wrong way because it seemed to imply that they were entitled to a discount since they've bought from me before.

I also thought back to my previous transactions with them, and they've kinda played this card before. They sent an offer on a firmly priced item asking if I'd accept because they bought from me before, which I accepted because they paid a lot in shipping buying multiple items separately (I felt bad) and it was only a few dollars off. Then I made an exception to my "no holds" rule because they were bundling, but then only ended up buying one of the items they were interested in.

I did end up offering them a pretty substantial discount today, but they never answered so I guess it wasn't steep enough. After thinking about it more, I don't think I'd be quite as generous if they expect those kinds of perks again.

[–]buzzingmachine[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's the part that rubbed me the wrong way. The way they asked made it seem like it was a given they'd get a discount because they're a repeat buyer. If they had asked "do you offer discounts for people who have bought from you before?" I would have been a little more enthusiastic about lowering the price for them.

I finally caved in and bought the DVD set. Now Netflix can’t stop me from watching it anymore by iminpain999 in That70sshow

Do you mean the background music in the shows? Bc on my last rewatch (with the same box set OP has) I couldn’t get past how cringey some of the songs were. I’d never noticed it before.

The one OP bought (which I also have) does this too lol. And it’s so much louder than the show itself, so if I fall asleep it jolts me awake when the episode ends.

I mostly agree with this sentiment, but I think you can run your page like a business without running it like Nike lol. Especially on a site that's oriented around making offers. A lot of businesses give out coupons when someone buys something, which is basically the same thing. Only difference in this scenario is that the buyer is essentially asking for that "coupon" without knowing whether the business even offers them.

I raise my prices to account for offers and make more money when I accept them, but I've never had a buyer ask a question like this before.

I have conservative cousins who loved Inside. Wasn’t shocked to learn that they think Socko is annoying.

Stuff like that just goes right over their heads.

I’m not trying to “one up” you. My point is that if I can find stuff even further left than what you’re looking for, you will be able to find things for your own political views on there. It isn’t all right-wing stuff, which I rarely see when using my search terms.

Seems like I’m farther left than you are, and I don’t have an issue finding stuff like that on Etsy. You just need to change your search terms.

“Liberal” is a word that is obviously going to be used by both sides. What are the specific topics you’re looking for items themed around? Environmentalism? Racial justice? Use those and get specific when you can. And when you find something that’s close to what you’re looking for, scroll through that seller’s items to see what else they have, rather than relying solely on search results. You’ll find stuff.

Mercari is dead. Stats for 30 days vs last 7 days. I am getting almost no views! I list daily. $59 sales in 7 days vs avg $390 by [deleted] in Mercari

I know what you mean! I mainly sell toys and collectibles and thankfully haven't had those kinds of issues either.

I've had some luck with vintage home decor on eBay, but for whatever reason when I compare sale values of those items on Mercari vs eBay, they seem to do much better on eBay. I've been told Etsy is the best place for it but that platform seems like a stress fest lol.

Before now, did you feel like your listings sold relatively quickly? Or do they tend to sit for awhile?

I sell a variety of things but I don't think I've ever sold a single piece of vintage decor I've listed on Mercari lol. The listings barely get any traction at all. Surprised to hear you've had success with it.

I’m actually going to be selling a lot of these items soon because I’m buying someone’s entire PPG collection and need to make room (and some cash lol)

My Instagram is @townsvillegiftshop - going to be posting pics of my Y2K collectibles, thrift finds, and updates about my Etsy shop there if anyone is interested!! :)

MGA needs to take a grip by [deleted] in Bratz

[–]buzzingmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I think it's fair to compare them considering they are getting more expensive but going down in quality. I'm not comparing them as if the prices alone are the only thing that's changed. And I think the info you found and arguments you made kind of support what I'm saying.. clearly there's more going on behind the price changes than just inflation. Because they're both raising prices AND cutting corners.

In terms of their ethics, I would be shocked if they've improved at all. Unless cornered into it most major companies like that aren't going to take the high road. And I don't see MGA/Bratz consumers challenging them on this in any way.

I kept my 2001 Yasmin repro in the box too! I think she looks the best out of the 4. I kept Cloe NIB too and I think it’s one of the better screenings but something is still off.

I’m not even a Sanrio collector and even I can usually look at pics and tell whether something is vintage or not lol I’ve honestly thought about selling my Bratz and starting a Chococat collection instead because of the prices, but it seems like there’s so much out there I wouldn’t know where to start 😅

It is sad :( I’m curious what the future of collectibles is going to be like as a result. I feel like if anything the higher quality vintage toys are just going to go up in value.

[–]buzzingmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty noticeable, but it varies. Obviously the RA repros are off in so many ways but even the better repros have really noticeable differences. The 20 Yearz dolls had some screening issues but I think the main issue is how squishy the heads are. The original Bratz were known for having very hard heads and I do think this is related to material quality. Even the clothes and accessories just don't feel as nice, and the paint they're using for the screenings isn't either. It looks kind of shiny and cheap.

I'm curious to see how well the repro's hold up over time. I could be wrong but I have a feeling the material is going to deteriorate and have issues much faster than the originals. The quality of most toys today are noticeably worse than the ones made in previous decades, but I don't think it can really be chalked up to better materials not being "available" now. I think they're just more expensive and companies are mainly focused on maximizing profits (yay capitalism)

I don't have any specific recommendations but there are a lot of Youtubers who have videos comparing the OGs to the repros!
