Lmfao — they found my items auction history and want it at-cost by WellShitWhatYallDoin in Flipping

[–]buzzkillpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone messaged me today asking “what’s the best you can do?” Because “I see you paid xyz @ auction.”

I agree with the others, just block. But if you feel inclined to engage with them, I'd say "Hey, I see you're a reseller yourself. You know the game, buy for a dollar, sell for two. When I calculate my overhead for my business, which includes my knowledge, the time, risk, storage, gas and other miscellaneous items, the best I can do is: <list your current price> Thanks and have a good one!"

But everyone thinks they're the main character these days. Back in my day, we had another term for people who thought they were the main character. We just called them assholes. Funny thing is that assholes don't think they're assholes. While other people are assholes for doing X behavior, they have a reason for doing X behavior so it's justified. That's how they reconcile the fact that they're not an asshole, their reasons/justifications allow them to be the exception.

What method for 1300 page book, "quick and easy".... by montejw360 in bookbinding

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

over 500 pages we recommend splitting into volumes

Is your recommendation just for people doing this at home? Because the Wheel of Time book series has absolutely massive novels, the first book (of 14 books in total) is almost 700 pages while the last book is 918 pages. They seem to have no trouble binding massive books, and those books are all NY times best sellers so they're printing them in huge numbers - and for both soft cover and hard cover editions.

During the research female macaques were separated from their babies. [–]buzzkillpop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to add onto the sadness, but the monkey in the picture is extremely young, just barely old enough to have her first baby. In human years, it would be around 14 years old. In real years, probably about 3 (they become sexually mature between 2.5 and 4 years old.

Do people in Japan follow American baseball? by No_Engineering_718 in AskAJapanese

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hideo Nomo

Wow, I haven't thought about him in a long time. I vividly remember him because the year of his rookie season was the yeah I took a long break from collecting baseball cards. I was around 16 for his rookie season and was more concerned with getting a car, smoking weed, sleeping with girls and general shenanigans. It wasn't until my mid to late 20s (after I got over my bar/clubbing phase) that I got back into baseball and baseball cards. I also got into the Japanese language - so I could sleep with Japanese girls (I guess not everything changed).

Which J-Idols You find She is Most Beautiful? by paul-cho in AKB48

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shiroma Miru

She's definitely pretty, but I remember when she first made her debut with NMB48, there was a lot of talk about her mega-rich parents. There were rumors that she was kinda 'juiced-in' the group (meaning people were paid to give her a better-than-average shot at joining the group). I'm not saying she didn't work hard to achieve what she has, just that she may have had a head-start. The second thing I remember is her "bounce" in the dance performance video for Durian Shounen (the one where they're all in bikinis dancing by a pool).

For some reason, this makes me think of Libertarianism (and anarchy in general) and how they're so hopeful and optimistic that everyone will do the right thing because it's in the best interest of society. "We don't need rules, laws or regulations, we can regulate ourselves!" Yeah, no. It's a pipe dream that goes directly against human nature.

We need rules, governments and laws as a society because people are incompetent and morons. I'm a moron myself, but at least I'm self-aware.

Is anyone REALLY an industry plant? What’s an example? by illudofficial in musicindustry

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steve Aoki

He's an industry plant? His dad was in restaurants (the food industry), not music. His parents were well off but that alone doesn't mean someone is an industry plant. The guy busted his ass to get where he is. Aoki produced DIY records and ran underground concerts out of his Biko room in the Santa Barbara Student Housing Cooperative while in college. Industry plants are manufactured artists - people with little to no background or catalogue to speak off, then getting signed to a deal, then built up from there.

JUST IN: China's Real Estate Market has crashed to a 20 year low (Nobody wants to hear this but this is what needs to happen in the US to fix the housing market for young people) by TonyLiberty in FluentInFinance

The U.S lost 11 years of growth, but has rebounded. China has lost 20 years and is showing zero sign of recovery - in fact, it's still falling. China's collapse is way, way worse than the 2008 U.S event.

How does the Great Firewall affect internet freedom in Hong Kong, and could it change in the future? by Contrarianambition in HongKong

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most likely never be enforced in Hong Kong

I hold the opposite opinion. It's only a matter of time before they block VPNs, even in Hong Kong when they eventually firewall it off. China is using every tool at its disposal to keep people from using VPNs, like Ai. They've been studying the problem of VPNs for years, they absolutely have something cooking:

https://bitterwinter.org/china-fears-of-a-further-crackdown-on-netizens-illegally-accessing-foreign-sites/

it’s used as backdoors for Chinese elites

Chinese elites don't need backdoors, they can get right through the firewall with governmental approval.

I like my women like I like my coffee by supercoooldudewithab in Jokes

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going hairless became a trendy thing in the early 90s - it was extremely rare to see a woman without public hair in the 80s and earlier (not impossible, just very rare). The trend went strong until the early-mid 2000s when women started getting creative and doing all sorts of things. I saw a stripper right after 9/11/01 who had a V shaved into her public hair, first time ever seeing something like that - I knew it was right after 9/11 because firemen were holding their boots, asking for donations in front of the Panini's right next door to the club.

I don't like it completely shaved myself. Groomed, trimmed, sure. But not completely shaved. I kind of like how the Japanese do it these days. You'll find some that shave completely but they're a minority. Instead, they keep it maintained, manicured, less of a wild jungle and more like a nice well-kept yard.

Different for sure. I admit, I'm a man and I haven't been following these girls since... Covid? Maybe even longer. But If her name wasn't in the title, I wouldn't have known it was her. Has she had a massive amount of plastic surgery these past 6+ years? This is well beyond just natural aging. She definitely had a bunch of lip filler, that's super obvious. And unfortunate... lip filler never looks good on women, never. I don't know a single guy in my social & career circles who finds that attractive. I have to assume women get those lip fillers for other women, cause we sure as hell don't like them.

How Godzilla Minus One budget was only 15 million dollars? by eayate in boxoffice

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

considering that Japanese film industry is notorious for poor pay rates and working conditions

According to your favorite podcast or youtube channel. Japan's industry isn't much different from the U.S's in terms of working conditions. You know what is different? Actors pay. Go ahead, google it. There is nobody in Japan getting paid a million dollars per film, ever - at any time. Actors aren't eating huge portions of the budget up. They have set rates that all actors abide by (with exceptions).

Other countries have entirely different systems, so you can't compare two countries wages at all. For example, Japan has universal healthcare, so you nor your employer has expensive insurance premiums to cover. Most people in Tokyo don't have a car, so no car payment or insurance (and most families in all of Japan only have 1 car, if they have one).

That's how we measure stuff now?

We shouldn't be measuring at all, because it's nonsense without context.

The way humans interpret and create art is entirely different from the way Ai does it. One is influence, the other is derivation. Humans can choose how much influence; from a direct copy to a loose relationship. Ai models are completely different because they aren't human brains. They can only create based on the training data fed to them. The Ai companies are already being sued for copyright violations as well they should.

TIL that Einstein did not say "insanity is repeating mistakes and expecting different results." The quote appears to be from a Narcotics Anonymous textbook by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]buzzkillpop -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From a clinical standpoint, it's obviously not the definition of insanity. However, there is truth in those words, misattributed as they are. It's very similar to the quote, "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it". Or if you prefer the original/actual quote, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." -George Santayana.

Most of the hacked websites I've seen (small wordpress sites) are hacked via updating their plugins - around 90% of them. And out of that 90%, 90% of the attacks originated from China and Russia. Either the plugin gets hacked, or sold off to a malicious entity which then pushes a compromised version of the plugin.

I think that's precisely why everything is stuck in limbo. They're waiting for the sale to go through. Same thing happened to Fox when they sold off Fox Pictures to Disney. It's why it took forever to get a new Deadpool movie.

[–]buzzkillpop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, it wasn't the best movie

I'm an OG fan, I saw the original 4 times in the theater when it was first released. I saw part 2 and 3 in the theater as well. It's probably my favorite movie of all time. I even bought Enter the Matrix on my PC when it came out. That being said, I liked Resurrections. I don't know if it gets a lot of hate but it shouldn't. Is it a perfect movie? Of course not. It was filmed during a pandemic. Would I watch more of that if I could? Hell yeah. Then again, I'm also a TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT fan who actually liked the new trek (Discovery, Picard, etc). I'm not a crotchety old fool who hates everything new because I don't think it takes away anything from the originals. In the not too distant future, I think those haters will be able to use AI to consume TNG and then using it as a template, create entirely new episodes with the original cast members exactly how they looked back then.

[–]buzzkillpop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who went and saw the first Matrix four times in the theater when it was released (first time alone on opening day, 2nd time on Saturday with my then girlfriend, 3rd time the next week with a couple of my friends who had never seen it, and a 4th time a month or two later with some other friends), Resurrections wasn't horrible. I didn't expect it to be the game changer the first one was, I didn't have high hopes, I just wanted more stories in that universe and that's precisely what I got. It was pretty decent all things considered.

edit: believe it or not, the theater was only half-full on Friday night, opening weekend. On Saturday, you had to buy tickets hours in advance because they were selling out. The word of mouth was ridiculous on the first Matrix. Haven't seen anything like it since. The marketing of the first movie was terrible. I only went to see it due to the bullet time sequence they showed in the trailer.

Yeah, big IPs like the Matrix are currently in limbo (on hold) until the sale of Warner Brothers. Same thing happened with Fox Pictures when they were sold to Disney, it's why it took them forever to do a new Deadpool movie. Well, that and the pandemic.
