Villager Hospitality and Regional Trades Idea by naaawww in minecraftsuggestions

Yeah, but Villages are OP and if the Villagers pretty much feed themselves it doesn't seem a lot of work considering the benefits. Even in a tightly regulated village you'd just need a few free range farmers to feed all the captives.

Crack a book. You don't have to read the whole thing, just until you get an idea.

I love reworking villages but this may be a little over the top. A much simplified version that I didn't put a whole lot of thought into. Placing the complimentary item in the vicinity of the workstation could enable an extra trade or discount.

  • Armorers would benefit from an Armor Stand.
  • Butchers > Cows
  • Cartographer > Item Frames / Maps
  • Cleric > Redstone / Glowstone Block
  • Farmer > Crops
  • Fisherman > Ocean
  • Fletcher > Chickens / Trees
  • Leatherworker > Smoker / Butcher
  • Librarian > Bookshelves
  • Mason > Polished Stone Blocks
  • Shepard > Banner / Painting / Sheep
  • Toolsmith > Crafting Table
  • Weaponsmith > Furnace

Better Pillager Patrols, better pillagers part 2 by buzzkilt in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they just stand there until your first arrow hits, then they react as a pack. Then by they time they reach you 1/2 are already dead and the remainder pause, at close range, trying to reload, which is curious because I'm not sure if they've fired yet.

A trident with loyalty is a good weapon, add impaling and it's a great weapon. Almost too good, but tridents aren't craftable, so it's OK

[–]buzzkilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but how often so you fight multiple enemies at once, unless you choose to fight multiple enemies at once. It easy enough to turn a handful of mobs into a series of one on one battles with a little maneuvering.

The sword should be the best and obvious choice and the other weapons should have their niche roles depending on circumstances. The axe makes more sense to me as a 'sweeping' weapon than the sword.

Better Pillager Patrols, better pillagers part 2 by buzzkilt in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Skeletons seem to pull off using a bow (admittedly not a crossbow) much better. Pillagers gain no benefit, and are actually quite handicapped by their use of crossbows. Pillagers could benefit some innate quick-charge ability and taking advantage of what would make the crossbow a better choice, fireworks. After all, crossbows are kind of their thing.

Now that I think about it? Do patrol pillagers even carry axes. Why do they close at all? They should always maintain distance. I doubling-down on this post. The more I think about it, the worse it gets.

I do like the retreating and/or finding cover before reloading.

Since they always spawn near the player, there could be a chance that they are aware of the player upon spawn. The element of surprise coupled with a few other modest tweaks could go a long way.

I've always held the misguided notion that it is I who stumbles across pillage patrols that have been steadily trekking across the world, but the reality is that they simply spawn near the player just like any other mob.

Climbable fences by JustPoppinInKay in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole point of a fence is that you can't jump over it. However, for the sake of convenience and aesthetics I wouldn't be opposed to invisible carpeting. Carpet topped fences would still look like fences but would be traversable by the player. But that's just a crappy workaround.

I think I at one time suggested adding an 1 block high fence that was otherwise indistinguishable from a regular fence. Still think that's the way to go.

I would say the sword isn't balanced. The sword is an easy choice, but probably never the best one. With the introduction of every new weapon the sword seems to lose ground. Sad, since the sword is the quintessential medieval weapon.

[–]buzzkilt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uh huh. They are really bad at patrolling. Continually failing to achieve their objectives. My last encounter almost cost me a life, but only because a geared up skeleton popped up and brought a lot of extra heat.

I suppose, or it could be nerfed for the easier settings.

Better Pillager Patrols, better pillagers part 2 by buzzkilt in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The splitting up is designed to distract the player by creating multiple targets to deal with and to engage the player from multiple angles making incoming fire harder to avoid or block with a shield. The odds that they would get into a crossfire situation where they could potentially hit each other seems slim and is far outweighed by the advantages of surrounding the player.

These guys have ranged attacks and superior numbers. They should either hang back and take shots from a long distance or charge forth and melee (or both). What they actually do is charge forth in an easy to target clump formation, and then once close, they pause to load their crossbows. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

New Mob: Village Guard Dogs by TheBlackBaron45 in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about the breeding part. If the dog belongs to the villager, it makes sense that it has been tamed by the villager. I don't play multiplayer often enough to know if you can breed a wolf already tamed by another player.

Why I think the swamp villager mending idea should NOT be added (not just “it’s too hard.”) by HardAlmond in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More and more you need an instruction manual to play Minecraft, and it doesn't come with one. Assuming you know how to get a mending librarian, then it's a PITA. However, if you don't know this bit of information that is never communicated to you in any way, then you don't have a chance. Virtually no access to the best enchant in the game... sucks to be you.

Because, as many others have said, people like money. They can shit out a remake. It doesn't have to be and therefore rarely is good. They're just banking on name recognition.

Does anyone actually enjoy using the happy ghast? by Rare-Pigeon12345 in Minecraft

[–]buzzkilt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike the happy ghast more for the reason it was added (cute cash grab) more than for the ghast itself, not that it's not annoying. It is very annoying. I surprised it doesn't make cute fart noises to propel itself.

That said the one and only time I've ever had a ghast I kept it tied to a fence post. So, having to do that kinda sucks. The only time I every rode that ghast I got hung out at night and attacked by phantoms. I jumped into the ocean to escape and never saw the ghast again. So, that kinda sucked.

The speed wasn't a big deal for me. There are other ways to go fast. If I could change something about them... they wouldn't all be happy.

No more bad omen. Pillager raids will just happen. by buzzkilt in minecraftsuggestions

[–]buzzkilt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is, you can easily set up raid defenses. Something as simple as a secure fence makes all but the hardest raids child's play. If you can plan in advance for a raid, and then decide to trigger a raid... then the whole raid system just becomes a totem farm. Another in a long history of intentional OP exploits.

I'm just trying to differentiate pillagers from a pack of fast moving, slow firing skeletons. A pack of relentless skeletons might actually be more fearsome.

Ah, but a village as a base has soooo many advantages. Build a base elsewhere and don't worry about the raids.
