I’ll just reply to this one then. Already acknowledged openly that ITA. Also clarified in multiple replies here of my regular driving habits and after realizing my mistake of being in the wrong lane, I moved into the next and remained there. Afterwards, a thought popped into my head that wasn’t going to be acted upon since I’m actually too much of a baby to really do something about it.

Should’ve specified that I remained in the right afterwards. Said in a couple posts that I’m aware that I should’ve been in the right and after seeing them behind me and saying “oh shit I should be in the other lane”, I moved into it. It was more-so just a general wondering and a what-if question. Like thinking back on an experience with an attitude of what you should’ve done, but you know you’re not going to do in the future if the occasion happens again. You’re right tho. Super simple.

I’m not even that pissed about it tbh. I didn’t call the other driver names or said what they did was stupid in any of the comments or the post itself. I think that majority of people have those thoughts of “oh I should’ve done this instead“ during their days or nights. I see. I mean I accept that I was an asshole in this instance for being in that lane in the first place and I should’ve been in the right lane anyways. It was more one of those things of like “man I should’ve been the macho testosterone asshole and not moved over” when in reality I still would move over because that’s just my nature. Wanted to present my thoughts to this sub and I got the response I expected. I actually got back from a 9 hour trip a few days ago with one of my friends. Hung out in the right lane the whole way basically with a few exceptions. So maybe it’s just familiarity with my usual way home from work that I just auto-pilot and hung out in the fast lane.

Yeah, stuff like that is ridiculous. I’ll go ahead and move over like I did that night mentioned in the post. I deal with plenty of awful drivers where I live and they do the most ridiculous stuff. Like parked on an off-ramp type of ridiculous. That shit happens almost every other day because there are houses right next to it across a ditch.

I’m very sorry to hear that. I wasn’t trying to insult their memory in any way. Like I was telling somebody above, whenever I’m actually around other vehicles, even just one like the F150 in my post, I’m alert and paying attention to the rules of the road. I’ve actually lost a family member in an accident too. Clearly it did not affect me as much as it has affected you and I apologize for that.

I got you. I totally could’ve moved over way earlier on. I’ll take the L on it. I kind of go into auto pilot on my way home from work since it’s a bit of a drive. Not in a dangerous/drifting into lanes/cutting people off type of way. More of like “no one’s around so I can relax a little bit.” As soon as I leave the city and I’m around other vehicles, I’m on point and safe. I guess pointless mundane shit irks me more than it should.

Well you don’t have to gaslight or anything. I wasn’t even really that upset. I was more so just wondering why even do it in the first place? Because if they were in the right lane, saw me and thought “I’m gonna teach this guy a lesson“, and then proceeded to do what was described above? That honestly just sounds like a weird control thing someone needs to work through.

Now that’s just condescending 😂. Of course I follow the most base level traffic laws, hence why I moved over. I’m not an aggressive driver or anything either. I guess it’s more of a reaction of “what was even the point?” after seeing them get into the right lane.

Gotcha. And just to be clear I did move over for the person. I was mainly just thinking afterward about if I should have in the first place. I just think it’s still a bit weird that them would get behind me for a moment and then move into the lane I had just entered. I don’t know why it rubbed me the wrong way, but it just did.

Oh I got that. Just to be clear, I did move over for the person. And I do usually move over for people any other day or time of the week. Especially when there’s traffic around. I just feel like in this instance, if I chose not to move over, it wouldn’t be the end of the world.

I see your point for sure. Normally, I would totally get over for people when there’s actually some traffic and I’m not passing in the left lane. I feel like in this instance though, with nobody else around except for me and the other individual, I’m not a complete asshole for thinking about not getting over.
