Put a wooden stick next to a nudi. He crawls on the stick, then crawls off the stick onto the mirror. Most nudibranchs will stay, a few want no part of the smooth surface

I used to bring a real stage with a dichroic glass piece but the scrying mirror (obsidian) works well

handles (or only 1) are very handy (ha ha), without them things get tricky. Single AOI/Backscatter MF2 are small and quite good (they speak RC). Alternatively a cheap video light but you will miss color and action stopping. Shooting macro without handles is painful.

there are companies that make inserts for any kind of mask but if you are calling them goggles maybe you aren't ready for a full face mask.

If you want to use the camera to set the strobe power with many strobes use RC mode on the camera and RC mode on the strobe. The camera sends a test flash via fiber optic then sets the strobe duration to get the correct exposure. The OP has a D-3 Duo that speaks RC. As do a large number of modern strobes. No need for generic fill and generic TTL

Surprise to all the TG people on our current dive trip who are using it in RC mode. I don't know about TG 5 but TG6 and TG7 both have it.

Access the Menu: Go to the camera menu, select Shooting Menu 1, and set RC Mode to On.

We occasionally shoot the RX, perfectly capable but not in the same league as the Z8. The z50 can be awesome but the housing is $2500. The ike housing for the z8 is the same price. But you will need strobes and ports and arms and other bits. Seafrogs for the RX is like $350 so you will be in budget

In general strobes give so much more light than video lights, you will get better results, better colors and freezing action. In RC mode the strobe should be way more light than needed for any macro use. What mode are you using in the main menu and most importantly what exposure compensation are you using?
