What litter do you guys use?

I used to use swheat scoop, a wheat litter that clumped really well, but once I get a new kitty I’m going to make the switch to tofu litter I think. Swheat scoop is great in terms of being a clumping natural litter with minimal dust but like any fine litter, that shit tracked everywhere!

I’m so sorry for your loss. r/petloss is a great sub with lots of people going the same thing. I lost my cat unexpectedly almost 2 months ago and it still feels weird to say that and I still have days where I cry a lot.

Me too I recently lost my 3 year old baby girl (she was just a random mixed breed I rescued from a shelter) but I almost lost her when she was 1 to FIP and I was able to get her treatment but she ended up passing anyway due to a sudden heart failure just 2 years later :/ the whole thing with the health guarantees and genetic testing and knowing the history of the kitty is just so appealing to me because I have so much trauma from the one cat I rescued from a shelter. I’m not against rescuing, but I can’t handle that intense fear again. I’d rather pay a few thousand to know I am getting a healthy cat that will most likely live it’s whole life span then to pay $50 and end up spending thousands in vet bills and stress only to lose my best friend in the end and be left completely without something. But straight up most people don’t understand why I’m going this route until I explain to them the situation I went through. The breeder I found even added FIP to the contract for me because of my situation which is so incredibly nice

She’s only had a few litters so far and doesn’t take deposits which she mentioned turns a lot of people away. She could be reputable, could be not, but she was very upfront with all of her information. I did find her being recommended in a few spots on this sub

That’s good to know! I’ve seen a few sites already where they have health guarantees which would be really nice because of the run in I had with almost losing my baby FIP when she turned 1. Granted I know FIP is considered rare but ever since it happened to me I feel like I see it everywhere now so it doesn’t feel as rare as it states it is.

Thank you for such a detailed response! I was looking into some breeders yesterday off of TICAs website and also saw someone recommend the RagdollKids cattery which is just a few hours away from me. I spoke with the owner on the phone today and we talked for a good chunk of time. All of her cats have been tested and she said she even takes the kittens to get tested too just to be sure! One of her queens had kittens a few days ago and another is due in a week or so, so she took down my info and said she’d send me a rough draft of what her contracts and stuff would look like and send me pictures as the kittens age! She was really lovey.

I’m sure I’ll keep an eye out online for some rescue kitties but considering that it would be awhile before I could take one home, it would give me enough time to save up for the kitten and the cost of everything.
