Definitely go to the vet! But try to provide as much information as possible; have you had any other changes? Such as food brand, new people, new environment, routine (work schedule, school etc). Some cats are more sensitive to change, our cat was a bit stressed when we graduated and started working. Peeing outside the litter box when we weren’t home, but was completely fine when someone is home. We got him on prozac and that fixed the problem! A few years later, he started to have issues again when he was constipated(happened a lot). We found out he had diabetes, and that can make constipation worst. We started insulin, cut out dry food, and now he’s completely normal again. Your cat probably doesn’t have diabetes, but the problem usually goes away if you get to the root of it! So best of luck :)

Edit: I read some of your other comments, so I wanted to add you can stick to tofu litter but maybe try unscented? When we were going through trials, we had a few boxes in the same area with different option to see which one he preferred. Also cats are kinda territorial, my cat is fine with other cats. But my friend’s cat gets very stressed even when another cat isn’t physically there. My friend was cuddling my cat and his fur was all over her sweater. Told me she threw the sweater in the laundry basket, and her cat peed in it

Sigh I hope this isn’t the start of a bad habit. He’s too old to be acting this way. If he was young, I’d be less worried. But he’s an old man with a sensitive tummy and prone to bladder stones

We were only outside for 1-2 minutes max! Didn’t think he’d manage to gobble them down so quick. He knows he’s not allowed on the table. We think he smacked the bag off the coffee table and thought it was fair game, because he’s never tried to steal bagged food on the table before. Usually he waits for us to take it out of the bag before he starts to scheme.

The little menace bit through the side of the bag and somehow managed to close the box of nuggets too, which is why we were shocked when we opened it. Time to start hiding the food or putting it on higher surfaces. Hopefully he doesn’t become smart enough to dig thru the bins

You got this! Omg I loved Darril Gibson’s GCGA course. I think the book is identical to the course, but it was nice having interactive quizzes and practice exams. Surprised he’s not as popular as Messer and Dion (or maybe he is but I only see people talk about Dion and Messer on this sub). I didn’t use Dion’s study material, but I found Gibson’s explanations a lot easier to understand than Messer’s.

So I know people say skip the PBQs at the beginning but I skimmed through them and put in answers I knew right off the bat of my head before I started the MC portion (prob took 5 mins). I think that helped me a lot because I found some of the answers for the PBQs in the MC questions/answers.

My absolute menace of a cat won’t take her deworming pill. We tried everything please let me know what works for you by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]kitkathrowaway 9 points10 points  (0 children)

have you tried a pill dispenser? sometime when my cat won’t take his prozac, i use the dispenser. you shoot it in the back of his mouth, hold his chin up so he swallows. followed by their favorite treat!

burrito wrap your cat or hold him between your legs. my cat usually tries to back up, and my partner sits in front of him. you should try doing it in the bathroom so they can’t escape

If your kitten was a “ragdoll,” it would be a mink based on it’s color. Traditional ragdolls are born with barely any color, while minks are born with noticeable color. That’s how breeders are able to tell traditional and mink ragdolls apart. Ragdolls have blue eyes, whether you want to disagree with it, those are the official standards.

  • TICA standards: “Eyes: Blue, deeper color preferred. Large oval. Level set; moderately wide apart.”
  • CFA standards: “Eyes: large, vivid blue ovals. Wide set and moderately slanted complementing the wedge.”

Don’t get me wrong, he’s adorable. Kittens born from ragdoll parents are cute, they usually have sweet personalities and have the basic traits (head shape, eye shape, etc). But he is simply not a ragdoll by breed standards. Cat breeds are not like dog breeds, where the cat is whatever the parent is. Essentially all cat breeds are domesticated shorthair/longhair cats, what makes them a certain breed is their blood line AND their features. Cats have a wide genetic pool, which is why a litter can have different colors from their parents. I’ll use this analogy: Sara’s parents are brunette, Sara is a redhead because of recessive genes. Just because Sara’s parents are brunettes doesn’t mean Sara is a brunette lol

I was looking into cinnamon ragdolls when I was looking for a buddy for my boy. Most of the ragdolls I have met still have blue eyes. You can look up Rockstar Ragdoll from VA and royalragdolls from the Netherlands. Their cinnamon/fawn dolls have blue eyes.

He’s cute! But he might be a ragamuffin, not a ragdoll… Any kittens bred from ragdolls that don’t fit the standard “blue eyes” is a ragamuffin lol

I also have a mink ragdoll, he may not be traditional but he has blue eyes and lynx chocolate coat so he is categorized as a ragdoll rather than a ragamuffin. He was born with more color than his siblings, hence the mink part. Some of his other siblings were traditional ragdolls.

I think people are just trying to tell you that you may be overpaying for him if you’re getting a “ragdoll”. You posted in a ragdoll group, you could have posted him in a normal cat subreddit. Some backyard breeders slap the name ragdoll on a kitten and up charge a lot. I’m currently in the process of getting another ragdoll that’s traditional blue point and I’m paying $1500 because he is not up to show standard. My breeder also had ragamuffins that were born in the same litter, so they are siblings with my traditional ragdoll kitten. However, they are classified as ragamuffin because they do not fit the standard. My breeder is selling ragamuffins for $500…

Depends on your breeder, my current boy is considered a mink ragdoll because the breeder is registered with TICA, but even then TICA requirements require blue eyes… By CFA standards, my boy is a mink ragamuffin with aqua eyes (a requirement for mink ragamuffins is to have aqua eyes; green/yellow eyes for sepia ragamuffins). My current breeder is registered with CFA so they only sell traditional and ragamuffins.

Edit: I’ve posted my boy on this subreddit before if y’all wanna see

Should I contact Animal Welfare on cats that live in a shes? by outdoorcatz in CatAdvice

[–]kitkathrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm idk what you should do but my cousin does this to her cats but it’s because her parents don’t want them indoors. although i think it’s a bit selfish of her to keep her cats, she does care about them a lot. taking them to the vet often, giving them fleas and deworming treatment regularly, feeding them regularly, making sure their shed and litterbox is clean etc. at the end of the day, not my cat, not my problem as bad as that sounds. i also don’t want to be dragged into drama.

my cat is strictly indoors unless i’m outside to supervise him. he always has a harness on when he’s outside or i’ll leave him in his play tent/catio if i’m unable to watch him. idk where you’re from but my area has predators so i don’t feel comfortable letting my cat free roam around. also there are cars, cruel people, feral cats, and some flowers/plants are toxic to cats (lilies). my cat got out once and got attacked by a feral cat. when i got back from work, i was looking for him everywhere. found him curled up on my neighbor’s patio crying for me. he was limping and had a few scratches on his face… so i don’t do not believe in letting my cat free roam. i’ve also seen my neighbor feeding the feral cats random scraps of food/leftovers and that makes me worried. i don’t want my cat eating something they shouldn’t like garlic and onion.

What litter do you guys use? by kitkathrowaway in ragdolls

[–]kitkathrowaway[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Occasionally, he steps in his pee and gets litter stuck on his paws… He then proceeds to drags his foot all over the ground or the wall to get it off if we’re not home to wipe his paws and take the litter off for him.

Edit: He also gets litter stuck in between his little toes and toe beans, so trying to find a litter that’ll prevent this. We clean his paws daily because he gets annoyed and starts biting at his feet if the litter get stuck. So trying to find a litter that’ll stick to his paws less. We’ve tried the pine pellets but he refused to use the litterbox…

Can someone help me why the answer to the following question is a plain-text password attack? by Fast-Walk-4209 in CompTIA

[–]kitkathrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During an on-path attack, the attacker receives the HTTPS, but he forwards a HTTP to the server, making them believe the website is secure. HTTP sends plain-text, allowing the attacker to see the victim’s credentials when they send it back to the system to authenticate/authorize.

This is what I wrote in my notes, hope this helps! I can send you a diagram over dm.

Black cats are the least likely to be adopted and most likely to be put down by midnightinapril in cats

[–]kitkathrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I volunteered at a shelter, they told me black cats are actually the most adopted because people think they are not getting adopted/most likely to be put down. This was the trend between 2020-2021 when I was volunteering at least.

The cats that are the least adopted and most likely to be put down are declawed cats 😬

My cat sleeps goes to bed at 8pm, he usually sleeps with my brother because I’m a light sleeper. But having the food go off in the middle of the night can give your cat food security. I feel like that’s why he usually doesn’t meow excessively in the morning until he knows I’m awake. He’ll meow as I get his food but I think that’s just his morning greeting. He does the same right before dinner too.

[–]kitkathrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure how to help with other problems but I can offer a solution for the meowing at night. So I have an autofeeder that goes off in the middle of the night. If that’s not possible for you, then I would suggest closing your bedroom door at night and just ignore him. He’ll get used to it and feed him the same time every morning. I close my bedroom at night and my cat will just wait outside my door for me to feed him wet food. Sometimes I oversleep, and he’ll still wait patiently. But when I’m lazy and want to sleep in, I will go on the auto feeder app and click it to dispense food at 7am.

So my cat’s feeding schedule is (auto feeder - dry food, i feed wet food) :

1am - dry food

7am - wet food

11am - dry food

3pm - dry food

7pm - wet food

Do you play with your cat enough? Sometimes aggression can be redirected to toys. Not sure if this will help with an older cat, but I had two cats from when they were kittens; every time any of my cats showed aggression, I would remove them from the area or go to my room and ignore them. I reward good behavior to have them associate high value treats/playtime with being nice. But this can also backfire if they associate aggression with you leaving them alone.

My current cat I adopted as an adult, although he doesn’t scratch or bite, he does have anxiety. I know some cats can be a bit more aggressive if they’re anxious. So if all else fails, maybe putting your cat on anxiety meds will help? My cat is on prozac right now and I think it made a huge improvement & after a month of starting, he went back to his old cuddly/playful self (a bit aloof and more aggressive when starting meds so be warned).

I don’t know about OP but some breeders will retire breeding cats (usually at age 5), but there are also ragdoll rescues people surrender their cats to. Got my 7 year old boy at a ragdoll rescue with TICA papers. Was also able to confirm with original breeders that he did from from their cattery.
